  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s unusual and ‘unequal’ relationship dynamic explained

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s unusual and ‘unequal’ relationship dynamic explained

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to not have ‘an equal relationship’, as an expert unpicks the difference between their personalities including Meghan’s ‘dominance’

Prince Harry has been described as “a lost little boy” alongside wife Meghan Markle who “makes up for his own weakness”, according to a royal commentator.

The couple, who have been married since 2018, stepped back from the royal family in 2020 and have just celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary. Currently living in Montecito, California the couple share two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Their relationship dynamic has been unpicked, as an expert warns that Meghan’s ‘dominant’ personality might not always be a positive in their marriage.

Royal author and expert Tom Quinn exclusively told The Mirror: “No one has ever doubted that Harry and Meghan do not have an equal partnership – when Harry famously said, ‘what Meghan wants Meghan gets,’ he neatly summed up the situation.”

    Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Prince Harry has been described as ‘a lost little boy’ turning to Meghan to be the strong partner, according to a royal commentator
Quinn continued: “Harry has always come across as a lost little boy, overprotected by the Royal family as a child and then suffering the death of his mother he has always seemed unsure and indecisive, always searching for a strong partner who makes up for his own weakness. Meghan is very much that partner. She is ambitious, determined and a real fighter – Harry always tries to fight alongside her, but the battling, complaining Harry we see now did not exist before Meghan‘s arrival on the scene.”

However he did have a word of warning for the couple’s future as he finished: “For now, Harry loves the fact that Meghan gives him some of the backbone he always lacked, but her dominance in the relationship may not always be welcome – what charms us and delights us early on in a relationship doesn’t always stand the test of time.”

The opinion comes after the couple were notably absent from Harry’s longtime friend Hugh Grosvenor’s, the Duke of Westminster, wedding in Chester this week. Prince William was one of Hugh’s ushers, and it’s thought that his brother having a prominent role was part of the reason for Harry steering clear of the big day.

According to The Times, Harry was invited to Hugh’s wedding, but then over a phone call with the groom agreed to stay away in what is described as a “civilised understanding”. This move in turn cleared the way for William to perform his job as usher at the ceremony, where he was seen entering the Chester cathedral through a side door on Friday.

In another claim, an insider told the New York Post that “Harry actually got a ‘save the date’ card a few months ago but called Hugh and said it would be too awkward if he and Meghan Markle attended, so he made his apologies and Hugh understood.”

  • How Sarah Ferguson’s royal reconciliation offers hope to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

How Sarah Ferguson’s royal reconciliation offers hope to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Sarah Ferguson’s royal reconciliation could offer hope to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to one expert. However, as another insider notes, Fergie ‘never burned bridges’

Fergie’s recent rekindling with the Royal Family could offer hope to Harry and Meghan

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s rift with the Royal Family could reportedly be mended with the help of an unlikely fellow outsider.

The Sussexes could potentially draw on advice from Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson to help reconcile their tumultuous relationship with the Firm, a royal expert has claimed. The 64-year-old Duchess of York was recently welcomed back into the fold and made a rare appearance alongside her ex-husband Prince Andrew and the rest of the royals on their traditional Christmas day walk last year.

The event was the first time in 32 years that Fergie had been allowed to join in the royal Christmas festivities, after being banned from engagements by Prince Phillip. The Duchess had hit headlines over the years, including after her ‘toe-sucking’ scandal in 1992 which led to her split from Andrew.

The Duchess’ reconciliation with the Firm could represent a “turning point”

According to a royal expert, Fergie’s reappearance represents a “turning point” and suggests that a “reconciliation” may well be in the cards for Harry and Meghan. Speaking to OK!, Jennie Bond said: “If Sarah can be welcomed back after 30 years, hope is never lost for a reconciliation between father and son.”

Adding that Princess Eugenie – who is Fergie’s daughter – still has a close relationship with Harry, Bond added: “Perhaps Sarah could act as a mentor to help him reconcile with his father.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have grown distant from the rest of the Royal Family since they moved to America and stepped down from royal duties in 2020. The rift was hardened when the couple made explosive claims about The Firm in both their Oprah Winfrey interview and their Netflix docuseries.

Last year, 39-year-old Harry added fuel to the fire with the release of his memoir Spare, in which he fired shots at several members of his family. Things were made even worse when royal author – and former friend of 42-year-old Meghan – Omid Scobie launched his book Endgame, in which he revealed details about the royal race row.

However, Bond claims that “all is not lost” and King Charles’ recent gesture illustrates that he may be up for patching things up with his estranged son. She explained: “If he tells us all to ‘treat others as we would wish to be treated’, then it is helpful if we see him extending friendship and forgiveness to Sarah. And it does suggest that all is not lost with Harry and Meghan.”

Fergie has always shown her support for the Royal Family

Conversely, royal expert Hilary Fordwich says the Sussexes should not get their hopes up, pointing to the “stark contrast” between their actions and those of Fergie. Highlighting the fact that the Duchess of York “never burned bridges with the family”, and has actually been “steadfast in her support of them all”, Fordwich notes that Harry and Meghan should remember their past actions.

Speaking to Fox News, she explained that Fergie reviving her relationship with King Charles should be seen as a “strong sign that those who don’t throw the family under the proverbial bus are welcomed back.”

  • Prince Harry’s dreamy proposal to Meghan Markle – and the stunning £300k engagement ring

Prince Harry’s dreamy proposal to Meghan Markle – and the stunning £300k engagement ring

Prince Harry proposed to Megan in 2017 with a stunning ring worth a staggering 6 figures in a low-key yet dreamy and romantic way on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

Prince Harry reportedly nearly “gave the game away” before proposing to his wife, Meghan Markle while they were living in Kensington Palace back in 2017.

The Sussexes, who now live Stateside in California, recalled the romantic proposal in the second episode of their three part Netflix documentary series, Harry and Meghan. Harry said in the documentary: “I wanted to do it earlier, but because I had to ask permission from my grandmother I couldn’t do it outside of the UK,” reports the Daily Express.

He admitted that he nearly scuppered his own plans to completely surprise her with a ring, recalling: “I did pop a bottle of champagne while she was roasting a chicken, and that kind of slightly gave the game away and she was like ‘you never drink champagne, what’s the occasion?’ I was like ‘oh no, I just had it lying around here, whatever.’” At this point, Meghan jumped in adding: “It was a magnum!”

However, the rest of the Prince’s plan went off without a hitch as he lead his then girlfriend out into the walled garden which was covered in electric candles. He then got down on one knee and asked the all important question, presenting her with a ring fit for any member of the Royal Family and featuring diamonds belonging to his late mother.

Sales Director of jewellery experts F. Hinds, Jeremy Hinds, told the Express: “Prince Harry designed Meghan’s engagement ring himself, incorporating a three-carat cushion cut centre diamond from Botswana – the place is said to be meaningful for the couple. Harry also used jewels from his mother Princess Diana’s personal collection, with the centre diamond surrounded by two round diamonds as a tribute to her. The jewels are set on a gold band.”

As expected, the ring is likely worth a staggering sum, according to the jewellery expert, who said: “Estimates have placed the original ring’s value at upwards of £100,000, with some estimates reaching as high as £300,000.”

Since the first receiving the ring in 2017 and getting married in May the following year, Meghan has made some additions to the already magnificent piece of jewellery, including extra diamonds. Mr Hinds said: “Meghan debuted a redesigned engagement ring shortly after the couple’s pregnancy announcement, having had the ring redesigned to incorporate a thin, yellow gold band set with micro-pavè diamonds.”

Welsh gold has used in the rings of Royal brides for decades, including the late Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana and Princess Kate of Wales who were all given gold wedding bands. Megan was no exception and now wears a gold band next to her engagement ring, as well as a third ring that was later spotted on her wedding finger, a diamond studded gold eternity band.

The trio of rings first appeared publicly shortly after the birth of couple’s first child Archie Mountbatten-Windsor in May 2019. Mr Hinds explained: “Alongside the revamped engagement ring and Meghan’s wedding band, 2019’s Trooping the Colour saw the public debut of an eternity ring.”

The Duchess of Sussex debuted a brand new eternity ring at the Trooping of the Colours in 2019

He continued: “This ring was [reportedly] presented as a gift from Harry to honour both their first anniversary as a married couple, and the birth of their first child. The eternity ring features the birthstones of Harry, Meghan, and Archie – sapphire, peridot, and emerald respectively.”

The eternity ring is believed to have been amended to include a nod to the couple’s second child, Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, who was born in 2021. Lilibet’s birthstones are pearl, alexandrite and moonstone and so it is possible one of these stones was added to mark the arrival of the fourth member of the Sussex family.

  • Prince Harry has brought William and King Charles ‘closer than ever’ as ‘useful allies’

Prince Harry has brought William and King Charles ‘closer than ever’ as ‘useful allies’

King Charles and Prince William are ‘allies’ and are working closer together since Prince Harry’s departure, according to insiders, with the Prince of Wales standing in for his dad at one D-Day event

Prince William and King Charles have become closer since Prince Harry left, according to insiders.

The 75-year-old monarch is said to see his son as a “useful ally” in managing the day-to-day issues affecting the Royal Family since ascending the throne. This has included Harry’s criticism of the two of them in TV interviews and his memoir, Spare. The Prince of Wales has also played a vital role in standing in for the King as he continues to receive treatment for cancer.

In previous years, it had been claimed that the huge amount of media attention given to William and Kate, Princess of Wales had given rise to occasional bouts of frustration in Charles – with one person likening this to a “green-eyed monster”. But this is far from the case now, according to insiders.

A friend told The Times: “If there was ever a green-eyed monster or a sense of rivalry between the two, that is a chapter of the past. The King sees his son as a useful ally on family matters and increasingly in discharging the duties of nation and state.” A source close to William meanwhile told the newspaper that the Prince of Wales “wants to support his father”, especially amid “everything the King is going through with his treatment”.

One recent example of them working together was seen at the D-Day commemorations in Normandy this week, where a determined King Charles delivered a speech just hours after recieving his latest round of cancer treatment. He praised veterans and troops from Second World War as the generation who “did not flinch” and met veterans afterwards, before Prince William stepped in for his dad when he joined world leaders at the international ceremony on Omaha Beach.

Prince Harry did not attend the ceremony – and royal historian and expert Dr Tessa Dunlop has said she believes Harry will have been sad to see his brother at the events without him. She told the Mirror: “For the Duke of Sussex, looking on from the other side of the Atlantic, there will be some sadness. War is raging in the East of Europe right now and the Duke knows his presence not only captures headlines and boosts the Sussex brand, but helps tie war stories from the past to those in the present day. Likewise it is a loss for the Royal Family. The ageing King and Camilla with dutiful William know the drill but lack the pizzazz and lived frontline experience that these events thrive on.”

King Charles ‘not content’ with Archie and Lilibet video calls and ‘wants to be present in lives’

The monarch, who has been having treatment for cancer since February, has told friends he is not content with only seeing them on video calls from their US home

The King has committed himself to building a relationship with Prince Harry ’s children and to be present in their lives, sources say.

The monarch, who has been having treatment for cancer since February, has told friends he is not content with only seeing them on video calls after meeting Archie, five, only a handful of times and two-year-old Lilibet once.

His decision to step up efforts to become more involved comes as it can be revealed he sent Lili a “heartfelt gift and card” on her birthday last week.

Sources close to the 75-year-old King, who was in Normandy last week for D-Day commemorations, say he is “keener than ever” to focus on his family and his duties and “make up for lost time” after being forced to scale back engagements after his diagnosis.

Prince Harry, 39, his wife Meghan, 42, and their children live in Montecito, California, after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit royal life in 2020. Relations with the Royal Family have become fractured after high-profile interviews, including one with Oprah in 2021, a Netflix show in 2022, and Harry’s explosive 2023 memoir, Spare.

Those who know the King best say he has been in a reflective mood and considers his close bond with his son William’s three children a blessing. He is a “fantastic and enthusiastic grandpa” to Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, five, sources say. His wife Camilla, 76, is also understood to be a driving force behind his decision to ramp up efforts to see his other grandchildren.

A source said: “The King is absolutely committed to being present in all of his grandchildren’s lives. He values family above everything and whatever the course of his relationship with his son he would never be content with just seeing his grandchildren on the odd video call.”

Harry scrambled back to the UK to visit his father following his diagnosis. Bit despite Harry flying more than 5,000 miles to be by his father’s side, the pair met for just 30 minutes. Days later, the Duke told US broadcaster ABC: “I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

Ingrid Seward, author of My Mother and I – The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen, said: “Family has always been important to the King. He remembers his own somewhat fragmented childhood as his parents were always busy doing their duty. It is a great sadness to him he doesn’t see more of Archie and Lilibet.

“That is why he will never break ties with Harry. He does not want a FaceTime relationship with his son’s children. He wants to know them and be involved with their lives while they are still young enough to be able to learn from his wisdom. His cancer has made it all the more poignant to him as he knows that he won’t be around for ever.”

A friend of Harry insisted: “There has never been an issue with the King being in their lives and there never would be. The door’s always open.”

Last month, when Harry visited London to attend the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, the Duke was told his father’s diary was full and the pair did not meet.

The perfect day couldn’t be spoiled by Just Stop Oil protesters, who let off orange-coloured fire extinguishers after the ceremony.

Prince William, who was an usher for the wedding, watched on with a smile as the happy couple left the chapel.

Prince Harry was said to have agreed not to attend to avoid clashes with his brother amid their rift.

And Royal commentator Katie Nicholl claimed any encounters between the pair would have been excruciating.

Speaking to The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show, the expert also said the wedding exposed their rift.

Katie told Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson: “It would have been hugely awkward having both brothers there.

“And William as an usher at the service. Can you imagine the awkwardness if he had to show Harry or Meghan to their seats?”

She continued: “All of the headlines would be about the brothers and this rift when this is actually a really important society wedding and I think it would detract from certainly the bride and groom of the day and no one would want that.

“I think knowing that Hugh is very close to both of the brothers he was obviously in a very difficult position.

“He was never going to invite one and not the other. I think his hope was that Harry would gracefully bow out of this one which is exactly what happened.

“I suppose if you were the Duke of Westminster and your wedding’s going to be all over the front pages are you going to want the spare there, or are you going to want the heir and the future King.

“The optics of course is it’s better for Prince William to be there and I think it just highlights this divide doesn’t it.”

Katie added that there are “two royal camps operating”, the “court of Montecito” and Wills.

She said: “When it comes to everything that’s royal or aristocratic and British I think it’s going to be William that comes top in the pecking order.”

    Stunning Olivia’s custom-made wedding dress

OLIVIA Henson’s wedding dress and veil were designed by Emma Victoria Payne.

The bespoke embroidery design on the bridal gown and veil was hand drawn and reimagined by Emma Victoria Payne, incorporating floral motifs and edgings from Olivia’s great great grandmother’s veil from around 1880.

Olivia was wearing the Faberge Myrtle Leaf Tiara made for Grosvenor brides to wear on their wedding day.

It has been in the Grosvenor family since its creation in 1906.

She was carrying a bouquet of flowers, picked from the Easton Hall gardens, comprising Meadow grass, Ox eye daisies, Iris, Rose, Clematis, Mock orange, Scabious, Sweet pea, Astrantia, Martagon lily and Love in a mist.

The dress was constructed in ivory silk crepe satin, ivory silk organza with bespoke embroidered detailing.

Featuring a scalloped edge neckline with a delicate bespoke hand appliquéd embroidery comprising of floral and leafy motifs.

The bespoke embroidery design was hand drawn and reimagined by EVP incorporating floral motifs and edgings from Olivia’s great great grandmothers veil circa 1880.

A sleek silhouette with a bias cut skirt, pleated waistband, gathered sleeves, wide embroidered silk organza cuffs with a scalloped edge repeat motif and button detailing.

The back of the bridal gown featured a dropped waist, key hole back and scalloped edging embroidery embellishments fastening with rouleau loops.

It featured a detachable 2m silk crepe satin train with a panelled construction.

Olivia’s exquisite EVP bespoke waterfall veil featured intricate bespoke and personalised embroidery.

Graduating motifs of cascading scalloped edges and incredibly delicate floral motifs with foliage and scrolls adorned the design.

Each original antique motif from Olivia’s family veil was hand drawn and reimagined into a new repeat pattern of graduating scalloped edges and oval shapes to reflect Olivia’s engagement ring setting.

William and Harry have always had a close relationship with Hugh, and were both ushers at his sister’s wedding in 2004.

And while it’s reported Harry would have loved to have been there for Hugh’s big day – he snubbed the event after “challenges” came to light.

A source close to the Sussexes told People magazine: “There was an acknowledgement on both sides that it would be difficult for Harry to attend.

“It was an understanding between the two friends.

“The decision certainly avoided the inevitable clamour had estranged brothers Prince William and Prince Harry both attended the nuptials, eliminating the possibility of the big day being overshadowed for the couple.”

The Duke, who was once dubbed the UK’s richest bachelor, is King Charles’ godson, and the godfather of both Prince George and Archie.

Bride-to-be Olivia wowed crowds in a custom-made lace-edged satin wedding dress by designer Emma Victoria Payne.

A family statement revealed: “The bespoke embroidery design on the bridal gown and veil was hand drawn and re-imagined by Emma Victoria Payne, incorporating floral motifs and edgings from Olivia’s great great grandmother’s veil from around 1880.”

Ahead of the star-studded ceremony Hugh beamed and waved at the masses when he arrived in a forest green Land Rover – similar to the late Prince Philip’s.

He greeted the Dean of Chester, the Rev Dr Tim Stratford, at the entrance to the cathedral at 11.30am, around half-an-hour before the glamorous bride’s arrival.

Dozens of well-wishers cheered as Olivia’s dress and veil billowed in the wind when she made her way inside the church.

Who are the bride & groom?

Hugh Grosvenor was once dubbed “Britain’s most eligible bachelor” owing to his billions in the bank and royal connections.

But he has been swept off his feet by the duchess.

The 33-year-old is a British aristocrat and businessman.

He was born Hugh Richard Louis Grosvenor on January 29, 1991, to Gerald Grosvenor, 6th Duke of Westminster, and his wife Natalia Phillips.

He is close friends with royals, including Prince William, Prince Harry and Kate Middleton.

He studied at Newcastle University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Countryside Management.

Previously, Hugh was in an on-off relationship with Harriet Tomlinson for several years.

The pair met at college and split up, only to get back together on numerous occasions.

Meanwhile, his now-wife Olivia Henson was born on September 1, 1992, in London, which makes her 31.

During her childhood, she attended Marlborough College, the same school as the Princess of Wales.

The couple met in 2021 through friends and dated for two years.

The Duke proposed to her at Eaton Hall, his sprawling family estate in Cheshire.

Their wedding was announced in April 2023 and she is now the new Duchess of Westminster.

How Duke & fiancee’s day is inspired by Kate

    By Jane Matthews

THE Duke of Westminster tied the knot with his fiancee – in a wedding that took inspiration from Princess Kate’s big day.

Hugh Grosvenor, 33, married Olivia Henson, 31, at Chester Cathedral, in the society wedding of the year.

The Duke, once dubbed the UK’s richest bachelor, is King Charles’ godson, and the godfather of both Prince George and Archie.

Prince William was an usher at the wedding, while Prince Harry was said to have agreed not to attend to avoid clashes with his brother amid their rift.

The King and Princess Kate were said to have been invited to the big day, too, but it’s understood they didn’t due to their health.

Instead, it felt like the Princess of Wales was there in spirit after the couple appeared to have drawn decorative inspiration from when she and Wills wed in 2011.

Snaps of preparations at Chester Cathedral showed van loads of flowers being brought in, with scaffolding surrounding parts of the church.

Workers could be seen hauling trees towards the venue, while bouquets of flowers lined the streets nearby.

The happy couple are said to have ordered 10,000 flowers in for the occasion, which 400 of their nearest and dearest attended.

The greenery mirrored that of Kate and Wills’ wedding, where they filled Westminster Abbey with trees.

Six field maple trees and two hornbeams lined the aisle and were placed near the altar for the Royal wedding.

Kate was also said to have brought in nearly 30,000 flowers for the wedding.

The Duke of Westminster is said to have paid to have 10,000 flowers planted throughout the city for the occasion – and they’re all 100% British.

Prince Harry ‘heartbroken and horrified’ in moment Prince William finally takes his side

Prince Harry detailed a moment where he was left heartbroken and betrayed as he turned to his brother Prince William for help after a shocking news story was published

Prince Harry admitted he felt heartbroken in a shocking moment when his brother Prince William finally took his side.

The Duke Of Sussex detailed an incident that left him reeling and struggling to cope as he described how he turned to his brother for support. Harry spoke about how a seven-page newspaper article accusing him of having issues with substance abuse left him devastated.

Writing in his memoir Spare Harry explained the moment from January 2002 when he made front page news under the headline ‘Harry’s Drugs Shame’. Harry branded the article as “lies” as he explained how the story “not only had me down as a habitual drug user, it had me recently going to rehab. Rehab!”

Harry also explained that the editor “had got her mitts on some photos of Marko and me paying a visit to a suburban rehab centre, months earlier,” as he described the visit as “a typical part of my princely charitable work,” which the journalist had used and “repurposed the photos, made them visual aids for her libellous fiction.”

The dismayed Prince said that he had then “gazed at the photos and read the story in shock.” He explained: “I felt sickened, horrified, I imagined everyone, all my countrymen and countrywomen, reading these things, believing them.”

Harry also expressed that it made him internally “hear people all across the Commonwealth gossiping about me.” He then went on to express that his father, Charles, and stepmother, Camilla, may have been a part of the story leaving him “heartbroken at the idea that this had been partly the work of my own family, my own father and future stepmother.”

    Prince Harry Prince William
Harry recalled the incident in his book Spare
Harry mused how they had “abetted this nonsense. For what? To make their own lives a bit easier?” He then detailed how he “phoned Willy, I couldn’t speak. He couldn’t either. He was sympathetic, and more.” Harry elaborated on the conversation further as he added: “At moments he was even angrier about the whole thing than I was, because he was privy to more details about the spin doctor and the backroom dealings that had led to this public sacrifice of the Spare.”

However, Harry admitted that William also played down his distress as he told him nothing could change what had happened. He continued: “And yet, in the same breath, he assured me that there was nothing to be done. This was Pa. This was Camilla. This was royal life.”

The brothers have since become embroiled in a bitter feud and are thought to have not spoken for months, maybe even years.

Meghan Markle’s Ultimatum: ‘I WILL DIVORCE YOU!’ Threat Looms Over Prince Harry’s Talks of Permanent UK Return

The fairy tale romance that swept the globe, involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, now seems to be encountering some storm clouds. According to Royal experts, Prince Harry’s eagerness to establish a permanent residence in his native United Kingdom is met with staunch opposition from his American-born wife.

The rift between the couple traces back to their tumultuous departure from Royal life in 2020. After stepping down as senior working Royals, Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, resettled in California, where they’ve built a new life with their two children, Archie and Lilbit. While Harry expresses a longing to reconnect with his homeland, Meghan has made it abundantly clear she has no desire to return to the UK.

The tension in their marriage reportedly stems from Harry’s desire to return to the UK conflicting with Meghan’s reluctance. Royal commentator Kinsey Scoffield shared with the Daily Express, “I’m sure that Harry would love to have a permanent home in the UK, but Meghan Markle is the one thing holding him back because she tells us through her actions that she has no desire to return.”

The couple’s strained relationship with the British royal family, especially Harry’s bond with his brother, Prince William, and father, King Charles III, adds complexity to Meghan’s reluctance. Meghan, who has openly discussed the challenges she faced within the firm, notably accusing the Palace of racism in her interview with Oprah Winfrey, seems resolute in her decision to stay away. A source told the Daily Mail, “She doesn’t want to be a part of the Royal Institution anymore, and frankly, I don’t think they want her there either.”

Despite Meghan’s stance, Harry’s attachment to his homeland seems to be growing stronger. The prince, who served in the British army for a decade, maintains close ties with his military affiliations and veteran communities in the UK. He’s also made several trips back for significant events, such as the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue. “Harry loves the UK and considers it his home,” a source shared. “He has a lot of friends there and a support network, but Megan just has no interest. She’s happy in California and doesn’t want to return.”

The tension over this issue reportedly causes strain in their marriage, leading to heated arguments behind closed doors. “It’s a very sensitive topic that they’ve discussed at length,” a source revealed. “Harry is obviously torn because, on the one hand, he misses the UK terribly, but on the other, he doesn’t want to upset Meghan. It’s a real source of tension between them.”

Harry was suddenly absent from the royal family’s most important day…The reason why fans shed tears

AMANDA PLATELL: So sad Harry was missing in action on this most solemn day – I imagine he’s wondering whether his decision to shun so much of what he loves was worth it

Prince William spoke for us all when he said at the D-Day events: ‘It’s almost impossible to grasp the courage it would have taken to run into the fury of battle that day.’

At the deeply moving commemoration, William was wearing a clutch of medals and standing alongside world leaders, in place of his father King Charles who has had to ration his appearances because of his cancer treatment.

A moment to remember, as the baton was temporarily passed from father to son. And one that brought home to us Prince Harry’s absence more than ever.

How must Harry have felt observing the proceedings from the seclusion of his Californian mansion while his wife Meghan flogs jam for a living?

After all, Harry was the one the veterans loved, his natural camaraderie making it easy for him to joke and laugh with them. Unlike William, Harry knows what it is like to see active service and understands in part what these brave soldiers have been through. He, too, would have been proudly sporting his medals on this most momentous of days, had he not shattered his ties with his homeland, declaring war on his family in his memoir Spare.

The Duke of Sussex talks to Chelsea Pensioners in 2019 while wearing his full military attire

Yet I couldn’t see a single post about the 80th anniversary of D-Day on the Sussexes’ website. Why nothing from him about the extraordinary courage of the veterans? Perhaps I missed any tribute he made, but his apparent silence only accentuates how he abandoned his past life, as well as his distance from family and country.

He must find the world a lonely place, looking on in sadness, I imagine, at the solemn events this week, no longer speaking to his brother and wondering whether his decision to shun so much of what he knows and loves was worth it. How tragic for him that, on June 6, Harry was missing in action.

    Ugly side of Alec

Just weeks before his trial for manslaughter following the 2021 shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his low-budget Western movie Rust, Alec Baldwin announces he and his wife Hilaria are filming a new reality TV show due to air next year in the U.S.

‘We’re inviting you into our home to experience the ups and downs, the good, bad, wild and the crazy.’

Halyna’s family might rightly describe such a shameful show as The Good, The Very Bad and The Downright Ugly.

What right does Rishi have calling for young people to sign up for a year’s National Service when he can’t even last a day at the historic D-Day ceremonies himself and quits halfway through?

Accused of selfishness having dumped husband Eamonn Holmes after 27 years, just as he’s suffering serious illness, Ruth Langsford has hardly been off social media posting happy pictures of herself — even one having her roots done. And she’s still wearing her wedding ring! Guessing her next time on Loose Women will be when she takes it off, so she can milk her discarded marriage for all it’s worth.

Good luck to Olivia Henson, bride of the Duke of Westminster, who arrived with the train of her beautiful gown flying in the wind. When that happened to me, the priest said it was a sign that the angels were holding my happiness aloft. My marriage lasted six years. Just saying.

    Go fund yourselves, you luvvies

Hollywood stars Keira Knightley and Renee Zellweger are among those calling for funds to be taken from all movie budgets for an anti-bullying watchdog body to protect actresses like them on set.

Keira is worth around $80 million, Renee $90 million, while fellow signatories are Dakota Johnson ($14million) and Sienna Miller ($18million).

Crikey! Let’s hope these super-rich luvvies, who could fund a watchdog in the blink of a false eyelash, are digging deep into their Prada purses to help the struggling actresses following in their wake.

    Cut calories to cut cancer

Researchers claim dramatic weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy cut the risk of obesity-related cancers by a fifth and bowel cancer by half.

Jolly good, but surely it’s bleeding obvious that obesity is a major risk factor for cancer and it reduces with diminishing weight.

Given that the annual NHS cost of obesity is £6.5 billion, larger people should just stop eating all the pies rather than expect expensive free drugs.

Full-figured Fiona Harvey, the alleged stalker who identified herself as the inspiration for the deranged character Martha in Netflix’s hit series Baby Reindeer, has filed a £133 million lawsuit against the streaming giant for emotional distress and reputational damage. Now that’s a hefty suit — I reckon more than £10 million per stone of her actual body weight.

    Helen’s Worth her £250,000

Cost-cutting at Coronation Street is blamed for the departure after 50 years of star Helen Worth, who’s been playing Gail Platt on a salary of £250,000.

Blimey, given Gail’s had five husbands, one of them a serial killer who tried to bump off her mum, and buried all but one of them; and given she’s been cheated on for five decades, survived three murder attempts and been taken hostage, I’d say she was worth every penny of her glorious half-century!

    Kate expectations

Ellie Bamber as 30-year-old supermodel Kate Moss in a new film calls to mind what her favourite photographer Mario Testino once told me: ‘Those chiselled cheekbones… Kate’s face is a blank canvas to paint the most beautiful pictures on.’

Ellie’s no Kate — she’s more like Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing just before she got sexy with Patrick Swayze.

Ellie Bamber, 27, is pictured in a familiar dress on the streets of London as she plays Kate Moss for an upcoming biopic film

...But is she more like Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing before she got sexy with Patrick Swayze?

When the home of neighbours with two infants was broken into this week at 1am while they were asleep upstairs, it was caught on security cameras. The police arrived quickly at least, but said they couldn’t identify the burglars, nor their car, despite CCTV showing the number plate. Their advice? Get new locks on your windows. A sad state of affairs when even the cops think the onus is on us to protect our homes and families from villains.

    Westminster wars

Watching Tom Cruise nearly climb into the PM’s limo in Battersea, where Rishi was on the election trail, I felt a fleeting glimmer of hope for the Tories — someone with charisma and cunning who could triumph over impossible missions. Alas, it was a mix-up. Tom just tried to get into the wrong car.

No sooner does Nigel Farage declare he will lead Reform UK and stand as an MP than the Tories’ poll rating collapses and Reform is within two points. Not sure whether to laugh, cry or throw a milkshake in my own face.

BEST coverage of the election goes to LBC political editor Natasha Clark with her daily digest taking exactly one minute — about as much election as we can stomach.

Loose Women’s Janet Street Porter has a pop at Meghan Markle and insists ‘she’ll be bland’ in three years time

JANET Street Porter has taken a swipe at Meghan Markle today and declared she will be “bland like Kate Middleton in three years time.”

Speaking on Loose Women abut the royal engagement, Janet staunchly refused to join the rest of the country in their excitement about Prince Harry popping the question to the American actor and humanitarian.

Dismissing 36-year-old Meghan’s comparatively humble background, Janet said: “Look how Kate has turned out, she indistinguishable from the rest of the royal family, she’s been put through the treatment and take my word for it, lovely Meghan will be put through it.”

In fact Janet’s Netflix binges seem to have left her with the impression that Meghan won’t be the exciting royal that she looks set to be.

She continued: “We’ve all watched The Crown on Netflix, we’ve seen the protocol, we’ve seen the frosty silences, the courtiers lurking in the corridors making sure you don’t take one step out of line.

“I guarantee in three years time she will have been given the Duchess of Cambridge treatment and she will be bland.”

Despite slating her, Janet did manage to give Meghan some credit for bagging a younger man in 33-year-old Harry.

Meanwhile the Duchess of Cornwall said she is “absolutely thrilled” by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement as she visited a museum today.

She said: “William and I are absolutely thrilled.

    “It’s such exciting news.

“It’s a really happy time for any couple and we wish them all the best and hope they enjoy this happy moment.”

Kate spoke of her joy as she visited the Foundling Museum, which is dedicated to the history of the UK’s first children’s charity and public art gallery the Foundling Hospital.
