Prince William’s stoic appearance on horse-back has sparked a series of comments about how he resembles his late grandfather, Prince Philip.

The Royal Family were out in force today as they marked the annual Trooping the Colour 2024. But eagle-eyed fans were quick to pick-out a striking similarity between Prince William and his grandfather, the late Prince Philip.

Prince William was stood next to his wife, Princess Kate, on the infamous Buckingham Palace balcony. The nation had been unsure a as to whether Kate’s recovery would allow her to attend the prestigious event.

But at 6pm yesterday, she announced she would be coming – and looked the picture of elegance as she stepped out with her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

While the spotlight somewhat centred on the princess, who has not been seen in public since Sandringham on Christmas Day – some were quick to point out an astonishing resemblence between future King William and Prince Philip who died in April 2019.

Fans took to X to share their opinions, with one adding: “Prince William once again looking so much like his grandfather Prince Philip, always proud to serve monarch, military, country, and the legacy of his grandmother and ancestors.”

Other commenters responded naming him “iconic” and agreeing with the sentiment.

Another said: “I love Prince William. He’s such a presence, a true gentleman, strong and kind. I think he looks like a combination of his mother and his grandfather, Prince Philip.”

Today, Prince William demonstrated his horseback riding abilities as he took part in the parade alongside his uncle, Prince Edward and aunt Princess Anne. He rode a horse named Derby through the capital, in front of excited spectators lining The Mall.

It is the decades-old ritual that his late grandfather had carried out, alongside his wife, the late Queen Elizabeth for many years. As it customary, William wore the red uniform, which Philip would have also worn for the event – then his wife’s birthday.

King Charles was forced to stand down from riding a horse in the parade under the guidance of medics. This is because he is undergoing cancer treatment. He was required to perform his duties from the comfort of a horse-drawn carriage.

Prince George, the king of future generations, was spotted making a sweet comment to his mother Princess Kate as they turned up at the Trooping the Colour 2024.

Prince George appeared stunned at how the crowds were reacting to the Royal Family coming into the spotlight for today’s Trooping the Colour.

The young prince, aged 10, the oldest child of Prince William and Kate, sat opposite his mother as they rode into the King’s birthday parade this morning (June 15). According to lip-reader Juliet Sullivan, as enthusiastic spectators came into his eyeline, he said to his mum: “They all look so happy.”

She told MailOnline his comment was followed by a wave, which was mimicked by his younger sister, Princess Charlotte, nine – sitting alongside him with Prince Louis, six, who was seen making hilarious faces at crowds.

Thousands of people lined The Mall to wish King Charles a happy birthday. Despite being born on November 14 – it’s customary for the monarch to have two birthdays.

The King, undergoing treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, was able to make today’s parade – but was unable to ride in on horseback along with his siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward – and Prince William.

Instead, he was transported via horse-drawn carriage alongside his wife Queen Camilla under the instruction of medics.

Attentions quickly turned to Princess Kate, who stepped out for the first time in months. The future Queen stunned in a white and navy dress, with a matching hat.

Kate has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment for cancer – and has asked for privacy while she recovers. But today she was able to make her first official public appearance since Christmas Day when she was seen out at Sandringham.

She entered the parade alongside her children in the carriage, and then joined senior royals on Buckingham Palace’s balcony later on to watch the RAF flypast. In a statement issued yesterday (June 14) she admitted she is “not out of the woods yet”.

But said like anyone suffering with cancer, she has “good days and bad”.

Alongside Kate, Prince Louis stole the show on plenty of occasions with his mischevious ways. He was seen in Buckingham Palace straining as he tried to open a window. He was also pulling an array of cheeky expressions in the carriage leading up to the palace.

Louis was also seen yawning and dancing along during the Scots Guards’ march to Highland Laddie. But his older sister noticed and appeared to tell him off.

Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Mirror that as Louis danced, Charlotte appeared to tell him: “You have to stop doing that. Watch the parade”, to which he replied: “I won’t”.

Charlotte added: “Do as you’re told” but her brother responded: “Nope.”

Princess Charlotte received an incredible £36,000 present as a baby – but she never got the chance to use it. The only-daughter of Prince William and Princess Kate was gifted a luxe item when she was just a newborn – but due to strict Royal rules, the little one didn’t get to fully enjoy the unbelievably pricey gift.

The expensive present came from the Natural Sapphire Company and it’s likely one of the most luxurious baby rattles ever made. The rattle was crafted from 18ct white gold and decorated with diamonds, sapphires, and rubies to form a Union Jack.

The company explained on their website why they went all out: “When Kate and William were engaged with the iconic blue sapphire ring that once belonged to Princess Diana, our sapphire ring sales rocketed. Women everywhere wanted to be just as fashionable as Kate.

“Today, we continue to grow as a business and it is with great joy that we celebrate the birth of a new royal.

“We’re thanking Kate and William for introducing our company to the world, by gifting a custom-designed baby rattle, fit for their Princess.

“Baby gifts made from precious metals are a tradition dating back to the 18th century. Our luxury rattle, worth $45,000 (£36,000), is made from 18k white gold; lined with sapphires, rubies, and diamonds to produce the Union Jack flag.

“Such a unique gift, unlike any they will receive from well wishes around the world, will surely be treasured.”

But despite the thoughtful gesture for their newborn daughter, it was reported in 2015 that it was highly unlikely that Charlotte was ever allowed to keep the extravagant rattle.

Kensington Palace could not confirm whether the lavish baby toy was received by William and Kate, but as a general rule, it said, gifts from commercial companies were not accepted.

However, just because Charlotte – who celebrated her ninth birthday starring in a sweet new photograph – wasn’t allowed to keep the jewel-encrusted rattle, doesn’t mean she didn’t have one to play with.

King Charles reportedly bought her one made from willow, costing a much more reasonable £25; making it a far less valuable item to play with.

During Meghan Markle’s debut for her first Trooping the Colour in 2018, shortly after joining the Royal Family, she tried to make a lighthearted joke which didn’t go down well, according to Prince Harry.

The Duchess was left red-faced at the event, which was only weeks after Harry and Meghan had tied the knot at a their A-list ceremony in Windsor.

In Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare, he wrote Meghan had tried to crack a joke with Princess Kate, but it did not get the reaction they were expecting and instead, it led a brutal “yawning silence”.

Princess Kate asked newlywed Meghan what she thought of her first Trooping the Colour to which Meghan simply replied: “Colourful.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had joined the nation and the monarchy for the first time to celebrate the late Queen’s official birthday at the Trooping the Colour ceremony.

Although Meghan’s answer was short and to the point, it did not get a positive reaction, as Harry wrote in his memoir. Harry explained: “A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole”.

Large crowds turned out for the parade in Horse Guards Parade for the Queen Elizabeth II’s official birthday, and many were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex – just three weeks after they tied the knot. Meghan experienced the pomp and pageantry of the event for the first time when she arrived on Horse Guards Parade with Harry in a carriage, along with the late Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent.

While Meghan was seen chatting with Kate, William, and Camilla on the balcony, Harry claims things were far more tense behind the scenes.

Both dressed for the occasion though, Meghan opted for a Carolina Herrera blush off the shoulder dress, whereas Kate wore a baby blue dress from Alexander McQueen, and a hat by Juliette Botterill.

After stepping down as senior working royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan will not be making an appearance at Trooping the Colour this year to celebrate Harry’s father, King Charles’s second official birthday celebration.

Last night, Princess Kate revealed she will be attending Trooping the Colour today despite her ongoing cancer battle. In an incredibly open and honest message, the Princess of Wales revealed her innermost thoughts and fears that she’s “not out of the woods yet”.

Kate added that she has “good days and bad days” while she continues to undergo preventative chemotherapy, explaining that during the latter she is left “weak and tired”.

But when she is well enough she can focus on the things that give her joy, most notably her family and her work. A new image of Kate, taken earlier this week in the grounds of Windsor Castle, accompanied the royal’s deeply personal message. It is understood that the picture reflects that connecting with nature is something that continues to support her recovery.

Kate is set to travel down the Mall with her three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, in a state carriage.

A royal expert says Harry and Meghan wanted an apology for how things ended with the Royal Family despite it being “their fault”.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in disagreement over their royal past as the Duke misses his old life while the Duchess is glad to be out of it, an expert has claimed.

The Sussexes did not attend Trooping the Colour once again on Saturday. They last attended the event in 2019.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams says the absence will be a particularly tough pill to swallow for Harry given his links to the military.

However, he added that Meghan is likely not bothered about leaving the Royal Family firmly in the past.

Mr Fitzwilliams told The Sun: “I think when it comes to military matters Harry has always taken an interest.

“I think that he does unquestionably view the way the break has occurred with the Royal Family. Which, as I say in my opinion, is the fault of the Sussexes.

“We know they wanted an apology from the Royal Family for the way they were treated when they were senior working members of it. They certainly won’t get that. But I do think there will be a certain amount of regret.

“The military has been a very important part of his life, and I would have thought it only natural that he would have had a feeling of some regret [not being at Trooping the Colour].

“I think Meghan would be indifferent to a ceremony like Trooping the Colour quite frankly. I have no idea whether she would or wouldn’t actually watch it, but I don’t think it would mean a great deal to her.

“If it had done, she would have managed to carve a position within the Royal Family where she could have been of use.”

Harry and Meghan were last in the UK in May, when Harry was in the country for an Invictus Games event. Meghan only stayed in the UK briefly before the couple headed to Nigeria for their tour of the country.

Mr Fitzwilliams believes that it is unlikely we will see Harry, Meghan, or their children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – on the Buckingham Palace balcony soon.

He said: “I think it’s impossible to imagine Archie and Lilibet on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, or at Trooping The Colour by themselves.

“We will only see them on the balcony with Harry and Meghan and the rest of the family if the rift is solved. The appearance of the Sussexes anywhere is accompanied by a vast amount of publicity. It would overshadow the parade this weekend.

“Trooping the Colour is about the King, first and foremost. Harry and Meghan would bring some form of publicity circus with them.

“You simply cannot have Trooping The Colour where the centre figures are Harry and Meghan. Because it would be ridiculous. Every single time the Sussexes appear, they attract phenomenal amounts of publicity. I’m looking at a period of quite a number of years before they come to a royal event again.”

An eyebrow-raising video of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry during the 2019 event shows the Prince instructing his wife on royal protocol.

During Trooping the Colour 2019, Meghan Markle was observed having a brief and seemingly tense exchange with Prince Harry on the Buckingham Palace balcony while celebration events took place for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday.

It appears that Prince Harry was reminding his wife of the upcoming anthem to ensure she was prepared and facing the right direction by telling her to “turn around” twice, when she tried to turn her back on the crowds below. For Harry, maintaining protocol and smooth public appearances were taught from a young age.

The video gained huge traction on social media and has recently resurfaced as the Royal Family prepares for Trooping the Colour 2024 to mark King Charles’s official birthday on Saturday, June 15.

Footage shows the Sussexes are on the balcony during Trooping the Colour 2019 and Meghan Markle could be seen turning around to chat with her husband, just before the National Anthem was played.

As the National Anthem began playing Harry could be seen telling Meghan to “turn around” when she tried to engage with her husband and initiate a conversation.

The Duchess appeared to look quite upset when this interaction happened but much has been read into the interaction over the years, with some saying Harry was merely trying to look out for his wife, who may have been unaccustomed to the protocol.

Judi James, a professional body language expert, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk at the time to explain how Meghan may have been feeling at this moment.

She said: “It’s easy to forget how much pressure Meghan might have felt herself to be under, coming from the US which has no Royal Family, and immersing herself in both her husband’s family and the more formal side of his lifestyle.

“So events like the Trooping of the Colour might have even come as a bit of a shock to a woman who claims to have initially had little knowledge of skills like the curtsey.”

Judi added: “Her [Meghan Markle’s] blink rate does seem to have speeded though, which is a gesture that can hint at either some upset or irritation.”

The Duchess of Sussex’s second appearance at Trooping the Colour was her first public appearance since the birth of her son Archie, attending the late Queen’s birthday parade alongside the rest of the Royal Family.

As they are no longer working royals, Meghan and Harry will not be attending Trooping the Colour this year. The King’s Birthday Parade, scheduled for Saturday, June 15, will kick off at 10:20am.

Charles’s actual birthday is on November 14, but it is tradition for the reigning monarch to have an unofficial birthday in June, so the entire nation can join in the celebration.

One royal commentator, Kinsey Schofield, believes the couple might decide to choose the day to hit headlines so they are not sidelined. Ms Schofield, To Di For Daily host, said: “I would not be surprised if we saw American Rivera Orchard launch a product around Trooping the Colour.”

Meghan first launched her lifestyle brand on March 14, but there has since been a lull in brand activity. She then resurfaced at the end of April, giving out handmade jams to 50 friends and influencers to share via social media.

Meghan Markle and a friend of the Duchess posted photos on Instagram just as Princess Kate was making her return to public life at Trooping the Colour, sparking claims they were trying to steal the limelight.

Meghan Markle has been accused of trying to steal the limelight from Princess Kate’s triumphant return to official royal duties at Trooping the Colour. Kate returned to the public eye on Saturday months after the world learned of her cancer diagnosis.

Argentinian polo player Nacho Figueras, who is a friend of Meghan and Prince Harry’s, posted photos of the Duchess of Sussex’s raspberry jam on Instagram just as Kate was set to arrive at the King’s Birthday Parade.

Some media reports claim Meghan and her pal had allegedly tried to steal the limelight from Kate, whose return to the public eye has been widely hailed as a success.

The latest Instagram post came after Meghan’s new venture, American Riviera Orchard (ARO), unveiled a couple of new products only hours before the Princess of Wales made her first public appearance in weeks.

Mr Figueras later posted a photo of Meghan’s new product on his Instagram Stories and hinted ARO would also offer dog treats.

A second pic showed his dog, Nina Iggy, sat next to a jar filled with treats, with a label which appeared to be written by Meghan.

The jam label read “2 of 2”, suggesting Mr Figueras was one of only two people to receive a jar. Meghan’s previous batch of strawberry jam totalled just 50 and was given to the Duchess’s friends and celebrities.

Meghan announced her new lifestyle brand in March, dropping a 16 second long video on Instagram which showed the Duchess cooking, arranging flowers and strolling around her home in Montecito, California.

Prof Pauline Maclaran, a marketing and consumer research professor at Royal Holloway, University of London, told the BBC Meghan looked as if she was trying to lean into a “more domestic goddess kind of market” with the rebrand.

She suggested Meghan was trying to position herself as the next Nigella Lawson or Martha Stewart.

With the announcement of the new venture earlier this year, the absence of its official launch to date has set tongues wagging, with speculation Meghan is struggling to find the right staff.

Abesi Manyando, author and founder of the public relations and branding development firm Abesi PR, told Express.co.uk even when brands issue teasers, they may not release for up to a year later.

She added: “Meghan’s global popularity continues to increase especially in America and Africa despite royal experts’ criticism.

“To the rest of the world she is very much a royal and especially in America this will always give her a high degree of relevancy.”

Much to the delight of royal fans, William was joined by his wife and three children at Trooping the Colour on Saturday.

Since the reveal of Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis earlier this year, the royal has taken a step back from duty to concentrate on her ongoing cancer treatment.

Although she was not expected to step out on Saturday, Princess Kate revealed on Friday evening – via a statement from the Palace – that she was “looking forward” to attending.

Their three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six – have also been kept out of the spotlight during their mother’s cancer treatment. The young trio looked excited to join in the celebrations on Saturday.

In response to Princess Kate’s statement on Friday, which also gave a promising update on her health, a spokesperson for Prince William said: “The Prince is pleased to see The Princess starting to engage with the work and projects that are important to her.

“He will continue to focus his time on supporting his wife and children while continuing to undertake his public duties.”

Although she made an appearance on Saturday, it remains unclear when she will appear at another event due to her ongoing cancer treatment.

Prince William might reduce celebrations for his birthday to one big event as he was born the same month when British sovereigns usually mark their official birthdays.

Since 1748, British kings and queens who were not born over the summer months have held the traditional Trooping the Colour ceremony to mark their birthdays with more favourable weather conditions.

The late Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrated her actual birthday in April, would normally hold the event in the first two weeks of June.

King Charles, who was born in November, has kept up with tradition and marked his official birthday on June 17 during his first year of reign, and then again on June 15 this year.

The Prince of Wales celebrates his actual birthday on June 21 and might decide to mark the occasion with the traditional Trooping the Colour parade when he succeeds his father.

He could then host a smaller, more private, event with his family and friends later in the month.

William would not be the first British monarch to be born in the same period when Trooping the Colour is normally held.

George III, who became king after the official monarch’s birthday tradition was introduced, was also born in June and would normally host two events for the occasion.

He also made Trooping the Colour an annual event when he ascended the throne in 1760.

His granddaughter Queen Victoria, born May 1819, also hosted two events and only once marked both birthdays on the same day on May 24.

The infamous Queen was not fond of the tradition and only attended the parade once in 1895 when it was held at Windsor Castle.

George V and Edward VIII also hosted Trooping the Colour within weeks of their actual birthdays in June.
