The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to join the King and Queen at the royal estate in Norfolk, along with their children Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and seven-year-old Prince Louis.

Prince Edward and Sophie are also expected, along with their children Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, as are Princess Anne and Zara and Mike Tindall, and their three children.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are also on the guest list, although we won’t see their parents Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who have become outcasts thanks to their association with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The King’s strict timetable

The festivities begin on the morning of Christmas Eve, when family members arrive at Sandringham House, the monarch’s private country retreat. But Christmas for the royals isn’t the same relaxed affair that most of us enjoy. Rather, they are on a strict timetable, with multiple outfit changes over three days.

“There’s an unspoken rule for guests: do not arrive late. There is no grace period,” royal author Robert Jobson tells HELLO!. “After completing the odd custom, dating back to Edward VII, of being weighed on antique jockey’s scales, guests are on the clock.

“They change for a formal lunch, served by royal staff in the dining room. Afterwards, most go on an afternoon walk – one of the few moments when the schedule loosens up. But even then, they are on a timer. By 5pm, everyone must be back for afternoon tea.”

On Christmas morning, royal fans start queuing at dawn so they can catch a glimpse of the family on their way to and from St Mary Magdalene Church.

“What many do not realise is that the King and his family will have been to church once already that morning for a private service, away from the cameras and onlookers,” Robert reveals.

Christmas lunch is traditional, with all the trimmings, and the royal dining table is laid out with luxury crackers, made by the royal warrant holder Tom Smith.

“Everyone, even the King, wears paper hats from inside the crackers,” Robert says.

A ‘very special’ Christmas

As Kate’s first Christmas since she announced at the start of the year that she was in remission from cancer, and coming so soon after the King revealed his own cancer treatment is being scaled back, this year’s celebrations are set to feel extra special.

“The year has ended on a very positive note for the King, and the good news regarding his health will undoubtedly lift his spirits and those of the people around him. It will have brought reassurance to both him and his family,” says Robert.

“It will be good for him to have a chance to relax among his loved ones. It will be a very special time. I’m sure he will raise a glass this Christmas to those who care for him.”

British vigilantes who spearheaded efforts to fly England flags across the country have launched a new anti-migrant protest – attempting to block illegal Channel crossings.

 

Using the term “Operation Stop The Boats”, members of the group have been filming themselves slashing small boats before they are used by migrants to cross the English Channel from France.

Posts on social media show members calling for other British men to join them in France, including making a direct appeal to football hooligans, saying “we need to make a stand”.

In one video message shared this week by a member of the Raise the Colours group – the grassroots movement that has seen flags fixed to lampposts, motorway bridges and roundabouts across England – two men are seen evoking military language and the spirit of the British fight against the Nazis in the Second World War.

Claiming to be recording from the northern French coast, one said: “Just like in the 1940s, we must take a stand, and it starts with the men of England and Britain.”

Making an appeal to “firms” – a phrase that refers to football hooligan groups – the other man added: “Our country is doing nothing. Weak government, weaker borders.

“They are doing nothing, so we need to make a stand, boys. Get the lads together, get your firms together, get the lads in the pub, get the lads down the bars, if you’re talking about it and you agree with what we are doing, give us a hand.”

The Government is under pressure to tackle the issue of migration amid a record number of asylum applications, surging small boat crossings and protests at hotels housing asylum seekers.

On Monday, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood set out a package of reforms to asylum policies aimed at tackling illegal migration, telling MPs the current situation is “out of control and unfair”.

The latest videos shared by those linked to the Raise the Colours group have separately been referred to as “Operation Overlord”.

Earlier clips showed two men saying they were taking matters of illegal migration into their own hands and filming themselves stamping on and smashing a small boat’s engine.

In the clips, they refer to themselves as “patriots” and make a number of claims without evidence, such as that they are stopping “rapists and murderers” from “coming to a town near you”.

The flag-raising group, who have a combined 100,000 followers on X and Instagram, also posted a plea on X for donations last week, writing that they are: “STOPPING The Boats, whether the migrants or government like it or not!”

Two videos from the group have recently been shared to the 1.7 million X followers of Tommy Robinson. The far-right figure and former leader of the English Defence League, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has previously been accused of mobilising football hooligan firms in an attempt to launch anti-Muslim rallies across the country.

Separately, French media reports that the Dunkirk Public Prosecutor’s office has opened a preliminary investigation into “aggravated violence” against migrants by suspected British far-right figures.

One of the details being examined by the French prosecutor is the claim that in September, four men waving British and UK flags verbally and physically attacked migrants on the French coast. It is alleged that they told the migrants they were not welcome in England and proceeded to steal some of their belongings.

The men are not the first anti-migrant figures to travel to France in a bid to take matters into their own hands.

In September, Ukip, Nigel Farage’s former political party, posted a video to their X account showing what appeared to be sleeping migrants in France being woken by people flashing strobe lights in their faces and shouting at them.

Nick Tenconi, Ukip’s current leader, also posted a video captioned: “In Calais hunting for illegal invaders trying to cross into Britain.”

Comedian Janey Godley receives end-of-life care amid cancer battle

Comedian Janey Godley has revealed she’s receiving end-of-life care amid her cancer battle.

The Scottish comedian, 63, was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021. She was given the all-clear the following year when a scan showed “no evidence of the disease”.

However, another scan showed signs of the disease in her abdomen. In an emotional video on Wednesday, Janey explained that she’s now in a hospice.

She said: “So, I’m now in palliative care and I’m at end-of-life care now in the hospital. The chemo ran out of options and I just couldn’t take any more of it and the cancer has spread.

“So, it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it and it’s really difficult to speak about this and say to people.”

She thanked the NHS as well as charities and her family and friends for their support.

The star went on to say: “It is devastating news to know that I’m facing end-of-life but we all come to an end sometime.

“I want to thank everybody for supporting the family, especially [her daughter] Ashley and my husband.

“The overwhelming support has been amazing, and I don’t know how long I’ve got left before anybody asks.”

She signed off the video wishing people a Merry Christmas, adding: “Hopefully I might be here, who knows.

“Thanks everybody for all your love and know I really appreciate the outpouring of love and support you have gave me.”

In Jasper Rees’ 2020 authorised biography Let’s Do It, Victoria’s friends spoke about the final chapter of her life.

It is understood that Victoria spent her last days at her home in Highgate, North London. There she was cared for by her two adult children, Grace and Henry, sister Rosalind, and also close friend Piers Wenger.

Before she was allowed home for palliative care, Victoria was visited by Dame Julie Walters in hospital in 2016. According to Julie, she found Victoria to be in a state of “determined denial”.

She explained: “Vic said: ‘I just need to get this managed – the pain. And then I’m going to write something.’ They were sending her home to die in fact, but she wasn’t going home to die.”

Julie, who became pals with Victoria during their student days, added: “It was her way of dealing with it. Otherwise you have to face, okay, this is the end. She didn’t want to do that.”

Victoria’s friend Piers also shared that they often watched repeats of the BBC cooking show MasterChef in batches of three.

Piers then left the comedian in the care of her sister, Rosalind, and they spent time listening to Radio 3. Victoria also liked to listen to the birdsong from outside after asking for the window to be opened at her home.

What’s more, while spending time with her sister, Victoria also apparently came up with a sketch idea about her sock drawer.

“I was cursing that I couldn’t record it. It was absolutely hilarious,” Rosalind said about the sketch.

Victoria was ‘joking’ night before death

Meanwhile, in a separate interview with The Sun, a friend of Victoria’s spoke about the night before she passed away.

“She was sat up in bed talking and joking at 11pm with her family around her, but the next morning she died,” they said.

They added: “It has shocked the family but she dealt with it in her own way. She always knew what she wanted and liked to be in control. She handled the cancer the same way.”
