He added: “We’ve got to try and clamp down on that small boat crisis.

“Today, the other news, Michelle, is that this Government has now deported more foreign national offenders than ever before.”

Then, just days after his funeral, Mrs Whitaker’s twin sister Geraldine Milward died suddenly.

Mrs Whitaker told the Daily Mail: ‘It is an awful pain. It is gut-wrenching what happened. The family has been quite shocked by it.

‘It is tragic. We can’t sort of get around it.’

Chris had been one of seven siblings, and his sister painted a picture of an idyllic childhood with her Italian father Camillo and English mother Winifred, in which Christmases were ‘wonderful’.

Emmerdale’s Beth Cordingly announced “that’s a wrap” as she bid farewell to the Dales ready for 2026 to arrive in just a few weeks time. As the festive season arrives in the Dales, it appears that Ruby Miligan is in for a much quieter Christmas this year as her former troubles fall behind her.

The actress made her Emmerdale debut last year as Ruby Miligan, wife to Caleb Miligan. Entering the Dales as a feisty character, it was earlier this year that viewers saw a different side to her.

When her estranged father Anthony Fox arrived in the village with her daughter Steph, it was later revealed that Anthony had sexually abused Ruby repeatedly when she was a teenager. His actions led to him fathering Steph which was confirmed by a DNA test that Caleb discovered.

Anthony ended up dead at the hands of Ruby following Aaron Dingle beating him up at the depot. John Sugden helped to clear the body in a location that was only recently shared following John’s own crimes being exposed.

Beth won the Best Newcomer award at the 2025 TV Choice Awards for her role, and has also received several other nominations for her work on the show, including awards for Best Actor, Best Leading Performer, and Best Actress at various ceremonies this year.

Taking to her Instagram, Beth looked back on her 2025 in Emmerdale as she bid farewell to the ITV soap for Christmas break. Sharing a video of her packing away Ruby’s wardrobe, the actress penned: “That’s a wrap”.

She added: “THAT’S A WRAP ON EMMERDALE 2025. IT’S CHRISTMAS !!! Thank you for all your support, we wouldn’t be here without you. Have a lovely Christmas and a Happy new Year and we’ll be back working hard with new stories next year”.

As the video transformed into the cast hanging out at the Christmas party for Emmerdale, Beth continued: “Don’t forget to watch us on Christmas Day”.

While getting emotional, Amber apologised and said, “Sorry, I’m such a cryer at the minute because I love it so much,” as Nikita handed her a box of tissues.

“My alarm went off this morning, and I jumped out of bed because I was thinking, ‘Today’s the last Tuesday,’ you know?” she explained.

Amber admitted that she wants to “cherish every single moment” that she has left with Nikita.

“Sorry, why am I acting like we’re never going to see each other again?” she admitted, adding: “I’m really bad at saying goodbye.”

Amber revealed she will “miss the show so much” as she explains the “Strictly bubble is bursting”.

Former Nickelodeon child star Tylor Chase, who was revealed to be homeless in a recently-surfaced viral video, has checked into a hotel room thanks to the help of Daniel Curtis Lee, his one-time costar on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.

Chase, 36, portrayed Martin Qwerly on 33 episodes of the show from 2004–2007, while Lee, 34, played the role of Simon ‘Cookie’ Nelson-Cook on 54 episodes.

In a clip obtained by Daily Mail, the one-time child stars were seen sharing an emotional reunion with a hug, as Lee provided Chase with a warm, clean place to stay during Christmas week.

Lee in an Instagram reel Monday detailed the efforts he put into reconnecting with his one-time costar and providing him with a room.

Lee said that he got Chase on the phone with his father during the meeting, which buoyed Chase’s spirits.

‘Love is all we can we can really give people some time, and I’m happy that he was able to have that connection with his pops,’ Lee said.

Lee added that Chase ‘seemed super-receptive … to conversation’ about his future and ‘had a little little prayer going on at one point.’

Lee said that he spoke with Chase’s mother, who told him that giving him cash ‘might be dangerous’ and that he wanted to ‘respect her wishes’ as such.

Lee said that if anyone on social media was familiar with the process of establishing a trust ‘that’s contingent upon someone completing like a rehab or some type of process’ it could be the next step to help Chase turn his life around.

‘I really believe we can get Tylor back on his feet and you know I’m super feeling it right now with the holiday season,’ said the actor-comic. ‘He’s on my heart often, on my mind often.’

The update came a day after authorities in Riverside, California said it’s not immediately clear how long Chase has been living on the streets.

‘We do not know how long he has been experiencing homelessness,’ Riverside Police Department Public Information Officer Ryan Railsback told Daily Mail Monday.

Railsback added of Chase, ‘During all of our interactions, he has been cordial and cooperative with our officers.’

Railsback said that officers with the department’s Public Safety Engagement Team ‘contact him at least once a week and consistently offer a variety of resources, including assistance with temporary shelter options.’

Authorities told Daily Mail they have not been in touch with Chase’s relatives as he remains unhoused: ‘Regarding family, I am not aware of any attempts by officers to contact relatives on his behalf.’

Railsback previously told TMZ Monday that Chase has consistently declined shelter, drug or alcohol treatment, or mental health services offered by the department’s outreach division.

On its website, the Riverside Police Department says that its Community Engagement Division ‘strives to address emerging crimed trends, maintain safe school campuses, create safe parks and neighborhoods, reduce retail crime and develop working partnerships with all of our Riverside communities.’

As news of Chase’s living situation spread, another one-time child star who has battled homelessness – Shaun Weiss of The Mighty Ducks films – offered help.

Weiss credited his friend, businessman Jake Harris, for taking action to assist Chase.

‘Well, we were working on it and really Jake’s the one doing all the hard work,’ Shaun told Daily Mail.

Said Weiss: ‘I just made a video and Jake’s been out there literally combing the streets last night for him – and he finally found him and made contact with him.’

Weiss continued, ‘We tried to get him into a hotel last night and it didn’t work because really what happened was Jake had established a conversation with him and was working on establishing a rapport.

The Mighty Ducks alum said ‘Tyler seemed to be very receptive to getting treatment and to the idea of going into a detox.’

In an Instagram post, Harris said that he put Chase on the phone with multiple costars who ‘explained their love for him’ and how they hoped he would seek treatment.

‘He’s now in contact with all the right people to get him to help he needs,’ Harris said. ‘He has a hotel room tonight to give him time to make the decision on his own.’

Lee replied in the comment thread, ‘Thanks for getting the ball rolling for his treatment Jake.’

William Rush consistently celebrated his joy at becoming a parent, sharing photos of baby Frankie on social media and calling him “my world.” He was also due to marry his fiancée, Melissa, who is mother to the little boy.

His mother, Debbie Rush, 59 — known to millions as Anna Windass on the ITV soap between 2008 and 2018 — revealed on Wednesday that her “beautiful” son had passed away, leaving the family in what she described as a state of complete devastation.

Debbie Rush revealed her son William passed away on Wednesday at the age of 31, just a week before Christmas (pictured in 2018)

It has now emerged that William got engaged to partner Melissa Cotterill, 36, in June 2024. The two frequently posted snapshots of their growing family, especially after welcoming Frankie in October last year.

The only public hint of any difficulties in William’s life appeared back in June 2023, when he posted a cryptic update saying he would be “going away for a few months,” without phone access. He then remained silent online for six weeks before returning and sharing images of his newborn.

William had attempted to follow his mother into a show business career, initially as an actor and later a singer too

Among the shared moments was a photo of baby Frankie dressed in a Manchester City onesie while being fed by his dad. In another, William described him as “the happiest little fella,” celebrating fatherhood daily.

William had long pursued a career in entertainment, following his mother’s footsteps. He first appeared  on TV in Grange Hill between 2005 and 2007 before landing schoolboy Josh Stevenson in Waterloo Road from 2009 to 2013.

His acting credits also included roles in Vera and Casualty, and in 2014, he appeared briefly in Coronation Street.

William later shifted toward music, auditioning for The X Factor in 2016 at age 21. He performed Zara Larsson’s “Lush Life” and reached the third elimination stage. More recently, he returned to performing, touring local venues, competing in “battle of the bands,” and releasing original tracks.

Debbie Rush joined Coronation Street as Anna Windass in 2008. Her most memorable moment was her 2018 storyline involving Pat Phelan.

The family — Debbie, husband Andrew, and their three children — have now been left “completely broken,” with an “unimaginable grief” in the wake of William’s death.

In an emotional Instagram tribute, Debbie wrote:

“Our beautiful baby boy, William, passed away on 17th December. As a family, our hearts are completely broken… and there are no words to truly capture the depth of our loss. Even in our darkest moment, William gave the most precious gift — through being an organ donor, he has given hope and life to others. His kindness and love will forever be part of his legacy. We ask for privacy as we navigate this unimaginable grief.”

Tributes quickly poured in. William’s sister Poppy — also an actress with Coronation Street credits — is among those mourning.

Friends and colleagues have shared their heartbreak, including Denise Welch, who offered a heartfelt tribute on BBC Radio 2, and Corrie actress Sally Dynevor, who described William as a “beautiful boy.”

Waterloo Road’s Katie McGlynn recalled him as a kind soul who always made others smile.

William’s passion for performing emerged early when he played the Artful Dodger in Oliver at Bamford Academy. He credited the school’s headteacher for encouraging him to pursue acting.

Training at the Manchester School of Acting eventually led him to his first role in Shameless in 2007 — before his breakthrough on Waterloo Road, where he played Josh Stevenson in 70 episodes.

William leaves behind fiancée Melissa and their young son, Frankie — the centre of his world and the future he was preparing to build.
