  • King Charles gets me ‘hot under the collar’ in a kilt – and I love his ‘sausage fingers’

King Charles gets me ‘hot under the collar’ in a kilt – and I love his ‘sausage fingers’

COMMENT: When King Charles arrives in Scotland the beautifully tailored suits are cast aside in favour of the kilt – much to journalist Mel Fallowfield’s delight.

    BRITAIN-ROYAL

There’s an old saying, coined by Shakespeare – ‘clothes maketh the man’ and it springs to mind every time I see King Charles during the summer.

As he moves north to spend August in the highlands of Scotland, he sports a kilt and in my opinion it transforms him into something of a heart throb.

I always think that in a suit, if he wasn’t surrounded by bodyguards and cheering crowds, he could easily fade into the background. He’d be just another well dressed man of 75 – they’re two a penny.

But as he dons his kilt he seems to take on a new persona.

A relaxed and happy version of himself and someone who’d stand out in a crowd, irrespective of his royal status and that is immensely attractive.

I’m not a monarchist as such – I struggle with the immense wealth and privilege they enjoy while so many have so little – but I like most of the individual Royals (not Harry and Meghan but I’m sure that won’t give them sleepless nights).

I suspect Queen Camilla would be a hilarious companion over a couple of gin and tonics. I also think she wouldn’t mind if I confessed that when her husband sports his kilt I get a little hot under the collar.

There’s something about clothes that can change a man in an instant. For example I’ve always fancied Marcus Wareing – but only in his chef’s whites.

In ordinary clothes he’s distinctly unremarkable. I had to turn off his recent series, ‘Tales from a Kitchen Garden’ lest my crush disappeared.

On paper a man in a ‘skirt’ shouldn’t be the epitome of macho. But in my mind while Sean Connery looked suave and sophisticated as James Bond, he was never more masculine than when he wore a kilt.

As he once said, “A man in a kilt is a man and a half”. And who could forget the rugged intensity of Mel Gibson in a full kilt in Braveheart.

And King Charles wears his exceptionally well – it is of course as beautifully tailored as his suits. It hangs to exactly the right length – mid knee – and he teams it with immaculate hose, giving us a mere tantalising glimpse of the royal knee.

He looks elegant and yet has a twinkle in his eye.

He also looks immensely comfortable and we know he likes wearing them, he once said, “The kilt is a garment that is both traditional and timeless.”

It’s also a symbol of strength and bravery, qualities that King Charles definitely possesses, for all his privilege he’s not exactly having an easy time of late. And yet he’s soldiering on.

I asked an old friend of mine, who’s entitled to wear a kilt, about why the King might look so at ease while wearing one. He told me that they’re astonishingly comfortable and cosy, he added that it’s fun to wear something different and mentioned the feeling of patriotism and tradition that it engendered.

I suspect it’s also something to do with the fact that King Charles loves Scotland, he adores nature and it gives him much needed family time

Happily I’m not alone in my penchant for liking King Charles in his Scottish garb. One girl friend of mine told me, “He looks great, I like seeing him in more colourful clothes.”

Though I’m yet to find someone who agrees his hands are attractive and he doesn’t have ‘sausage fingers’.

I like to imagine him browsing through his kilt collection deciding which one he fancies wearing – there are five tartans he’s entitled to don – and then matching it with a suitable sporran.

I’ve always thought he was a bit of a dandy at heart and that he can indulge this when in the Highlands, paying attention to every detail of his outfit.

I recently read that Prince William ‘hates’ kilts and has no intention of following in his father’s footsteps. It may be for prosaic reasons – perhaps he’s got knobbly knees. But it goes some way to confirming my suspicions that he’s a tad dull.

I’ve always thought Charles is interesting, I like his eccentricities, the handwritten notes, talking to his plants and his love of red squirrels. The fact that he reportedly only likes round ice ‘cubes’ and even travels with a suitable tray to make them makes me chuckle.

I refuse to believe the rumours that he gets a lackey to iron his shoelaces, that’s a step too far.

I wouldn’t be so crude as to speculate whether he sticks to tradition and goes commando underneath or whether the crown jewels are covered, ahem. But I would like to know what he keeps in his sporran…..perhaps a pen that doesn’t leak…

King Charles made an appearance at the Mey Highland Games in Scotland on Saturday, August 3.

The monarch, 75, braved the rain to attend the event held in the village of John O’Groats in the far north of Scotland after arriving in the Highlands earlier this week.

Charles, who is chieftain of the games, wore a traditional kilt with a smart jacket, buttoned up waistcoat and tie, and woollen socks pulled up just below the knees.

Upon his arrival, His Majesty appeared relaxed and took time to wave and shake hands with members of the public.

Once seated in the front row of the marquee, the monarch settled in to watch the spectacle – which included a traditional caber toss and a tug of war.

King Charles seemed to be in high spirits as he watched traditional Highland games events such as the three-legged and egg and spoon races as well as presenting a trophy to the winning tug of war team at the end.

The first Mey Games was held in the nearby village of Mey in 1970 to celebrate the late Queen Mother’s 70th birthday.

As guest of honour on the day, she declared the event a success and encouraged its organisers to make it an annual event.

Express.co.uk exclusively revealed earlier this week that King Charles arrived at his favourite Scottish residence on Monday evening.

The King opted to spend time alone at the Castle of Mey before he joins the rest of the Royal Family on the Balmoral estate next week.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will be joined by other members of the Royal Family for their annual Balmoral summer holiday in mid-late August.

Meghan Markle's Engagement Ring Tops List as Most-Searched in the World (Which Royal Ring Came in Second?)

More than six years after Prince Harry’s proposal, Meghan Markle’s engagement ring continues to captivate attention. The Duchess of Sussex’s three-stone diamond sparkler is the most-searched celebrity engagement ring in the world, according to a new study from U.K. jeweler Ramsden’s Jewellery. The findings analyzed global search volume data from the past 12 months, and an aggregated average revealed that Meghan’s ring drove about 51,283 searches a month.

Second on the list was Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire and diamond ring, which Meghan’s sister-in-law Kate Middleton wears today, with 22,100 average global monthly searches, followed by Megan Fox, Millie Bobby Brown and Hailey Bieber in the top five.

Meghan, 42, typically wears her engagement ring stacked with her Welsh gold wedding ring and eternity band, which she received as an anniversary gift from Harry in 2019. Last year, she switched up her style and stopped wearing her engagement ring for a short time, including at the latest Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany, in September 2023.

Meghan Markle's Engagement Ring Tops List as Most-Searched in the World (Which Royal Ring Came in Second?)

On Valentine’s Day, Meghan was photographed again with the ring on her finger at the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025’s One Year to Go countdown in British Columbia, Canada. She wore the tri-stone sparkler with her two other go-to bands, and sported the same combo during her recent trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry in May.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, famously designed his wife’s engagement ring with Cleave and Company, the jewelers to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. The ring features an ethically sourced center gem from Botswana, where he and Meghan romantically camped together early in their courtship, flanked by two smaller diamonds from his mother Princess Diana’s personal collection.

During their engagement interview with the BBC in November 2017, Harry said he incorporated his late mother’s jewels “to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.” Meghan praised the thoughtful inspiration and said, “It’s beautiful, and he designed it, it’s incredible.”

Tucker Carlson ROAST Harry Exploiting Southport Knife Stabbing To CLAIM Meghans UNSAFENESS In The UK

In the wake of the devastating knife attack in Southport, England that left two children dead and nine others injured, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been accused of shamelessly exploiting the tragedy to further their own narrative about the supposed lack of safety in the United Kingdom. According to reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have remained silent on other tragedies affecting marginalized communities, but have been quick to seize upon the Southport incident as a means of bolstering their claims that the UK is an unsafe environment for them and their children.

Their actions have rightly drawn significant criticism from commentators and the British public. “It’s absolutely disgusting that Meghan and Harry would use the deaths of innocent children to score political points,” said royal commentator Nigel Farage. “They’ve shown a complete lack of empathy and compassion, and it’s clear that their only concern is promoting their own agenda.”

While any tragedy that claims innocent lives is undoubtedly horrific, critics have noted that the Southport attack appears to have been an isolated incident carried out by a single disturbed individual. In reality, the United Kingdom has historically low rates of violent crime compared to other developed nations. According to statistics, the chance of being the victim of a violent crime in the UK is relatively small.

However, Meghan and Harry seem intent on painting the entire country as some sort of violent war zone to suit their own purposes. As political analyst Samantha Markle, Meghan’s estranged half-sister, observed: “They’re exploiting the suffering of these children for their own selfish purposes and it’s absolutely sickening.”

Their apparent lack of concern for other violent incidents that have claimed lives in marginalized communities, such as attacks affecting the indigenous Baka people, has not gone unnoticed. “The Sussexes are being selective in their outrage, choosing to focus only on incidents that fit their pre-determined narrative while ignoring similar tragedies affecting other groups,” noted royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.

Media personality Piers Morgan echoed this sentiment, stating: “It’s clear that Meghan and Harry are more interested in promoting their own brand than in actually addressing real issues in the world. They’re willing to leverage tragic events simply to further their own agenda, and that should be condemned.”

British citizens have also voiced their outrage over the couple’s conduct. As one Twitter user argued, “They’re using the deaths of these children to push a political viewpoint. It’s a complete betrayal of the victims and their families.” Another commented: “Meghan and Harry have shown no real empathy or care for the suffering of others. All that matters to them is making themselves look good in the media.”

Despite facing a growing backlash, the Sussexes have stood by their stance. A spokesperson claimed they are “deeply saddened” by the Southport tragedy and stand with the victims. However, given their apparent willingness to cynically exploit the incident to attack perceptions of safety in the UK, many doubt the sincerity of this statement.

As royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams observed, “Their actions are a slap in the face to the victims and their loved ones. To leverage such a human tragedy simply to further critiques of Britain is callous and condemnable.” Even if Meghan and Harry avoid official censure for their conduct, it seems clear their shameless co-opting of this atrocity has alienated many both in Britain and beyond.

As the fallout continues, questions linger over what, if any, consequences the Sussexes may face. Some have called for the couple to issue a formal apology to the Southport community for politicizing their grief. However, whatever occurs, one thing is certain – Meghan and Harry’s blatant exploitation of this tragedy to fit their predetermined narrative has drawn widespread and justified criticism from people across the political spectrum. Their apparent lack of genuine empathy or care for the real suffering of others will not be easily forgotten.

  • PALACE AT WAR! Harry Explodes As Charles Calls Urgent meeting At Midnight & Cut Him Off All Titles

PALACE AT WAR! Harry Explodes As Charles Calls Urgent meeting At Midnight & Cut Him Off All Titles

PALACE AT WAR! Harry Explodes As Charles Calls Urgent meeting At Midnight & Cut Him Off All Titles

The grand gilded halls of Buckingham Palace resonated with a palpable sense of unease as the most powerful figures of the British Monarchy gathered behind closed doors. King Charles III, his brow furrowed with worry, had summoned his children Prince William, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward, as well as the ever-poised Kate Middleton for an emergency family meeting. The topic on the agenda: the future of the once-adored, now-estranged Prince Harry.

According to tabloid reports, the catalyst for this tense gathering was King Charles’s belief that his younger son had actively collaborated with Netflix on the latest season of The Crown, providing insider information and storylines. This alleged betrayal had deeply wounded the aging monarch, who now found himself grappling with the prospect of cutting ties with Harry permanently. As the family members took their seats, the air was thick with unspoken tension.

King Charles, his eyes steely with determination, laid out his concerns. He made it clear that he no longer trusted Harry’s loyalty, and that the transgression of working with the very platform dramatizing the most private moments of the royal family was unforgivable. The assembled royals listened intently, their expressions revealing the weight of the decision before them.

Princess Anne, ever the pragmatist, voiced concerns about the potential damage a public rift could have on the monarchy’s image. Prince Edward, known for his diplomatic approach, suggested exploring a more discreet solution allowing the family to move forward without media glare. However, it was William, the future king, whose input carried the most gravity. As heir apparent, his opinion held immense sway, yet he found himself torn between loyalty to the crown and affection for his brother.

After a lengthy, charged discussion, a consensus began to emerge – one that would solidify King Charles’s resolve to excise Harry from the royal fold once and for all. The implications of this decision were not lost on those gathered. Prince Harry, once beloved, now risked becoming a mere footnote in the annals of the Windsor dynasty. The sting of this potential ostracization was palpable even for those weary of his public antics and perceived betrayals.

Yet as the meeting drew to a close, a sense of unified purpose seemed to take hold. King Charles, jaw set with determination, made it clear he would not allow the family’s legacy to be tarnished by Harry’s actions. The die had been cast, and wheels set in motion for a drastic, potentially irreversible course. However, it’s important to note that tabloid claims should be taken with a grain of salt, as there is no evidence Prince Harry had direct involvement in The Crown or a falling out with Netflix.

As the family members departed, the echoes of their voices faded, leaving behind an uneasy silence. The future of the House of Windsor hung in the balance, with the world waiting with bated breath to see how this high-stakes drama would unfold. One thing was clear – the family emergency signaled a crisis that could forever alter the delicate dynamics and public faces of Britain’s most famous dynasty. Whether reconciliation or ruin lay ahead, the inner conflicts of the Windsors had been brought into the light once more.

How expensive is Beckham’s favorite dish that makes him travel all the way to Spain to eat?

David Beckham expressed his love for the Galician treat percebes, but fans will be horrified by the cost via a recent Instagram update.

The 48-year-old owner of Inter Miami FC was eating at Botafumeiro, Barcelona’s best seafood restaurant, where the extremely kind manager also spoon-fed eels to him, according to Daily Mail.

David disclosed during his tour that on Tuesday night, he was enjoying a platter of percebes, which are regarded as the most costly shellfish in the world.

The price of rare seafood can reach £400 per pound, and a portion weighing between 15 and 20 pieces will cost customers almost £80.

Due to being so rare, percebes are quite expensive, and retrieving them can be extremely risky.

Percebes don’t look that tasty according to some people who have even likened them to dinosaur toes and dragon claws despite their high price.

David, who is reputedly worth approximately £350 million, admitted he loves indulging in them when in Spain, therefore the price was no barrier.

David, a Real Madrid FC player who resided in Spain, posted pictures of the dubious-looking food on social media.

David wrote, holding the percebes up to the camera to take a picture: “One of my favourite thing to eat when in season in Spain.”

He included a close-up photo and added, “Soooo good! Gracias.”

The manager, Juan Jesus Perez Alonso, uploaded a humorous video to his social media profile after his visit.

He was spotted putting spoonfuls of eels into David’s mouth and then using a serviette to wipe his chin.

Brooklyn, his 24-year-old eldest son and aspiring chef, and David have a passion for food and cooking. Brooklyn is soon to start working with Uber Eats.

On June 14, we reported that Princess Catherine opened up about her courageous battle with cancer in a touching new post.

Princess Catherine has shared a heartfelt photo on social media, her first public appearance since announcing her battle with cancer. Captured by photographer Matt Porteous, the image depicts the Princess beside a majestic tree, symbolizing resilience amidst her treatment.

In her Instagram caption, the Princess expressed profound gratitude: “I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement,” acknowledging the significant impact of these gestures on her and Prince William.

She discussed the realities of chemotherapy, stating, “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

Princess Catherine shared her cautious optimism with her fans: “I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer.”

Despite the numerous challenges she has faced, in true Kate fashion, she remains optimistic and appreciative. She concluded with, “Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”

The absence of Princess Catherine from the public eye sparked widespread concern this year amid speculation among the public and media. Unsurprisingly, the public’s response to today’s post has been overwhelmingly supportive.

In the latest post’s comment thread, one user wrote, “Wishing you lots of health and a steady recovery. Sending you lots of strength and patience ❤️.” Another called her a “brave woman.”

One Royal fan was delighted that Princess Catherine was resuming her family commitments, commenting, “Happy news that the princess of Wales will be attending Trooping Of The Colour tomorrow morning with husband William and children and the rest of the Royal family.”

While overcoming these obstacles, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis’ parents have maintained their family-first approach. As Royal biographer Ingrid Seward confirmed, “For William, everything hinges on Kate’s well-being.”

The Prince of Wales has no doubt found it very difficult to cope with his wife and father battling cancer at the same time. Although he has resumed his public duties after taking some time off to be with his nuclear family, they remain his top priority. Hopefully, they have turned a corner, and the rest of the year will be smoother.

  • Beckham’s text message to Tom Brady was suddenly leaked, were the words too cruel?

Beckham’s text message to Tom Brady was suddenly leaked, were the words too cruel?

David Beckham’s text to Tom Brady following his Netflix roast encapsulates the ‘cringe-worthy’ show.

After witnessing the brutal roasting of his pal on Netflix, Becks felt compelled to reach out. The pair share a close bond, often engaging in friendly banter on social media and catching up in person.

They both have daughters of similar ages and last year they enjoyed a family dinner together in Miami. Their camaraderie extends to public birthday wishes too.

Brady has even shown support for Beckham’s team, Inter Miami, and has followed in his friend’s footsteps by becoming a minority owner of English club Birmingham City.

However, their paths diverge when it comes to participating in roasts, with Beckham making his stance clear.

During a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live! “, when asked about Brady’s roast and if he’d ever consider doing one himself,

Beckham responded with a resounding “Definitely not,” accompanied by laughter.

However, he did share his thoughts on the show. “The whole concept is quite funny. It was very funny. I know Tom quite well, and I must admit, I did fire him a message just to check he was OK. He’s more than OK, but, yeah, it was hard to watch.”

In the interview, Beckham also gave a nod of approval to Taylor Swift, who was mentioned during the roast, and Travis Kelce. “I think [Kelce] can handle it,” he said, referring to the scrutiny that comes with a high-profile relationship. “We know Taylor can definitely handle it.”

Brady even took aim at Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs and Swift, during the show. “Kansas City, you say your stadium is the loudest. It helps when your fans are 14-year-old girls,” he quipped. “And in honour of TayTay, let’s take a look at the Chiefs’ Eras. Terrible for 50 years, good for five. Shake it off!”

Kelce, however, found the show as entertaining as Beckham did. “That was unbelievable, first off,” he commented on the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast.

“Everybody involved, hats off. I have been in tears the whole, like, last day just watching the clips and everything. I commend everybody, because nobody seemed to get their feelings hurt. It just looked like everybody was having fun with it… that had me rolling because of how at everybody’s neck people were going.”

His brother, Jason, though, didn’t entirely share the same sentiment and echoed Beckham’s opinion. “I mean, it was pure entertainment, and I was really happy they did it, but I just do not get the roast,” he expressed.

“I do not understand why people do them. Maybe I take myself too seriously.”

Jason continued: “I really don’t get it. I don’t get why people do roasts. I don’t get why it’s a thing. ‘Hahaha, yeah, my family is ruined! It’s so funny! Everyone is laughing, it’s great! Yeah, we’re all having fun, right? ‘”.

  • David Beckham jumped into the Ten Hag defense, blaming the Man Utd star for the dismal season

David Beckham jumped into the Ten Hag defense, blaming the Man Utd star for the dismal season

David Beckham has surprisingly spoken out in support of Erik ten Hag, even though the Dutchman has taken charge of another hugely underwhelming season at Manchester United.

During Ten Hag’s first campaign at Old Trafford, Man Utd won the League Cup, reached the FA Cup final and finished third in the Premier League.

The Red Devils have once again reached the FA Cup final, but that is their only achievement this term.

Ten Hag’s side have been knocked out of the Champions League and League Cup early on, while some disappointing results have seen them fall to eighth in the Premier League table.

Man Utd are even below Chelsea, a club where there has seemingly been constant drama and controversy this season.

Man Utd’s players are starting to come to terms with the fact that Ten Hag is highly likely to be replaced in the summer, with Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel both under consideration.

Man Utd have also been urged to consider a blockbuster reunion with Jose Mourinho, though that move would be a big shock.

Amid all the managerial speculation, ex-Man Utd and England star Beckham has been quizzed on the source of his former club’s problems.

But rather than blaming Ten Hag, like a lot of Man Utd pundits have been doing, the 49-year-old icon thinks it is the players who are not showing enough motivation.

“I think that’s the whole point of being a Manchester United player and playing in these big games, you should be motivated.

“When you’re a professional footballer and you’re doing the job that you love and you’re at the club that you love, when you’re playing in any game whether it’s a regular season game or whether it’s an FA Cup final against your rivals, then that should be enough motivation.

“If it’s not, then you’re in the wrong team and you’re playing the wrong sport so I think at the end of the day, we [Beckham’s former Man Utd team] went into every game whether it was a youth cup game, a friendly game, off-season or the European Cup final, with the same mentality and the same drive.

“That’s what you’d hope at any team and any player for Manchester United, go into an FA Cup final against Manchester City with enough motivation that a manager shouldn’t have to say much.”

Beckham continued: “We all know that Erik’s a very qualified manager and a good manager and he has the right motives.

“But I think we were lucky in our day that we had Sir Alex Ferguson, we were lucky that we had Eric Harrison and Jim Ryan and Nobby Stiles and all of these great managers and motivators.”

It has been reported that the significant cost of sacking Ten Hag – over £10million – could save the 54-year-old his job. However, Old Trafford chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe must decide whether Ten Hag is taking Man Utd in the right direction, and whether that £10m sack payment could be worth it to save the long-term future of the club.

Prince Harry breaks royal protocol, declaring: “When I ascend the throne, my mother – Doria Ragland, will become queen.”

The Sussexes have decided against employing a Norland-style nanny and will bring up their children in a more “traditional” manner, according to a source.

Prince William and Princess Kate may have hired a Norland nanny with a six-figure salary to look after their three children, but Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan Markle, 42, prefer a more traditional approach.

Sources reveal that the Sussexes have opted to keep childcare within the family, with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, taking on the role of the children’s nanny. The source says that the decision for Doria to step up followed a series of unsuccessful partnerships with professional nannies in the past few years.

“Harry and Meghan have used a number of nannies in the past, but now that Doria has moved in with the family, she has stepped up to help look after the children,” the source said.

“There is sometimes additional help, but Doria is working closely with Meghan to ensure that the children are brought up in a close-knit and loving family environment.”

Initially, the Sussexes had hired Lorren Khumalo, a paediatric nurse and consultant, to care for Prince Archie shortly after his birth. At the time, the family was living at Frogmore Cottage before announcing their decision to step down from their roles as working royals and relocate to the United States.

In an interview last year, Lorren recounted her first visit to Frogmore Cottage to meet Harry and Meghan, noting that despite getting a speeding ticket on her way there, she was comforted by Harry’s informal and welcoming demeanour, describing the house as very “normal” and Harry as “barefoot.”

It was also reported that Meghan and Harry were forced to dismiss a night nanny after an unsettling nighttime incident with Archie, which made them wary of subsequent hires. This incident, detailed in Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s biography “Finding Freedom,” described how the couple had to let the nurse go on her second night for being “unprofessional and irresponsible.”

The experience reportedly left the Duke and Duchess of Sussex nervous about their next nanny, despite her competent performance. Consequently, they decided to handle night duties themselves while employing a day nanny who worked weekdays.

When living in the UK, Harry and Meghan preferred not to have their home filled with staff, opting instead for a nanny who did not live at Frogmore Cottage. They valued their home being “cosy and private,” enjoying nights with just the family and, according to the source, this is the approach that the couple now takes with both Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, two.

“Meghan feels much more comfortable with the children under her mother’s watchful eye and Harry was very keen to keep it [childcare] in the family,” the source said. “Both Harry and Meghan are extremely protective of their children and only stop worrying about them if Doria is in charge whenever they are away.

“Doria was instrumental in looking after Archie and Lilibet when they [Harry and Meghan] were in Nigeria and she treats them like they are her own.”

Earlier this year, Express.co.uk revealed that Doria stepped up to help her daughter and son-in-law by moving to Montecito.

Meghan’s 67-year-old yoga teacher mum took up residence in the Sussexes’ guesthouse on the grounds of their Californian mansion to help the couple out and to avoid a lengthy car journey from her home in View Park-Windsor Hills in Los Angeles.

“Doria spends nearly all of her time with Harry and Meghan. It’s basically a family of five,” the source said. “She [Doria] is amazingly close to the children and helps Meghan daily. She also steps in as a nanny whenever they travel abroad without the children.

“Meghan thought it very important that the children be brought up by family rather than an outsider so they feel safe and secure at all times.”

The move makes a stark contrast to the way the Prince and Princess of Wales bring up their children. Prince William, 41 and Kate, 42, rely heavily on Spanish nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo from the prestigious Norland Agency. Maria joined the family in 2014 when Prince George was just eight months old.

Today, Maria still works for William and Kate, helping them take care of their three children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, and is said to be an important support for Kate while she recovers from cancer at home.

“The Wales family have taken a very different approach,” the source said. “But it must be noted that before Kate’s illness, the Wales family worked extremely hard. The children also live at home with their parents.”
