CBS Sports already had what many fans considered to be the dream team of football pundits.

The UEFA Champions League coverage provided by Kate Abdo, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards has led to countless viral moments in recent years.

But that star-studded lineup got even better on the opening night of the 2024-25 league phase as David Beckham joined the team.

Ex-England captain Beckham – who won the Champions League with Manchester United in 1999 – made quite an entrance too.

He was originally introduced via a video link as he appeared on a giant screen inside the CBS studio.

Former Man City defender Richards struggled to contain his excitement as he shouted: ‘David, my hero.’

Beckham pretended he was unable to hear, but this was all a pre-recorded ruse.

As Richards and Co sat staring and shouting at the screen, Beckham entered quietly entered the studio from the opposite side.

Carragher looked genuinely stunned as he and Richards both screamed before the latter leaped to his feet and hugged Beckham.

Richards then said: ‘What a guy! You still smell lovely’.

Beckham eventually took a seat between Henry and Richards, who continued fanboying.

‘I’m looking at his style, the suit is fresh,’ Richards added. ‘Oh my gosh. What a guy!’

Beckham later announced that, although he will not be a regular panelist on CBS this season, he and his pals will provide alternative commentary on six games over the next two years.

The ‘Beckham & Friends’ altcast for CBS Sports will be available as a new viewing option to Paramount+ subscribers for the next two finals, as well as the semi-final second legs this season and next.

Beckham explained that he will likely be joined by a different celebrity friend for each edition of his ‘watch party’-style altcast.

He said: ‘I love watching the game, and I like watching the game in a certain way, and most of the time it is either with my kids or my friends.

‘So it’s going to be that kind of thing, where I’m sat there watching the games, commenting on the games, with friends, talking about the game and not sometimes talking about the game.’

Meanwhile Anna was also sat front row beside David at his wife Victoria’s fashion show last September as she unveiled her latest collection.

Brooklyn, his wife Nicola Peltz, Cruz and Harper joined their dad on the front row for the ex-Spice Girl’s Parisian parade, along with Vogue editor-in-chief herself.

Discussing her and David’s shared love of fashion, Victoria recently revealed how the sportsman bought a brand new Prada suit just to ‘impress her’ on their first date after she said she liked the brand.

The fashion designer, 50, opened up about the beginning of their relationship in an episode of the new documentary In Vogue: The 90s, which started streaming on Friday on Disney+.

Gushing about her love for designer clothes, she recalled: ‘Versace, Prada, and Gucci, they were my go-to designers. What was it they were getting right at the time? I suppose they really understood the power of celebrity.

‘The Italians embraced that. When I first met David in 1997 he’d heard that I was the Spice Girl that liked the designer clothes.’

The former Spice Girl told the camera: ‘So, after me going to a couple of football matches and I would say, you know, me sort of like, pursuing him, he’d probably say me stalking him, we arranged to go out on a date together.

‘He’s like, “I don’t know what to wear, she’s the one who likes designer clothes,” and so he actually went out and bought himself a full Prada look for our first date, to impress me.’

Laughing, she added: ‘Which it did, because it was Prada.’

Elsewhere in the highly-anticipated new documentary, Victoria revealed how she copied Linda Evangelista after becoming ‘completely obsessed’ with the supermodel.

She explained that she became so interested in the 90s icon that she went to the same salon Linda used and even emulated her haircut.

She said: ‘[Linda] was the reason why I cut my hair, the reason why I dyed my hair lots of different colours. I was in New York, and I went to Garren, who was Linda’s hairdresser.

‘When he cut all my hair off. I was channeling my inner Linda.’

David got the number ’99’ tattooed on his little finger to mark the year he got married to wife Victoria, 1999 was also the year in which his eldest son Brooklyn was born.

Debuting it on Instagram, the retired footballer wrote, ’99 was a good year for me.’

Weeks before that, he had the words Pretty Lady inked above his daughter’s name Harper on his neck, in honour of his Harper’s fourth birthday.

If that weren’t enough the doting dad debuted the word ‘Dada’ and Harper’s middle name seven on his finger in 2017. 

In 2000, he was back at the tattoo studio and emerged with a large guardian angel in the middle of his upper back.

The sweet idea behind the design is that the angel is watching over Brooklyn’s name below. 

In the same year, David pledged his devotion to wife Victoria with a tattoo of her name in Hindi script. Experts later pointed out the tribute, unfortunately, actually said ‘Vihctoria’.

After the birth of their second son Romeo in 2002, David added his name above the guardian angel – which had been tweaked and given impressive wings.

Shortly after his Romeo addition, David chose to get the number 7 tattooed on to his inner arm in Roman numerals. 

As football fans will know, the number is special to the former midfielder as it’s the number on his shirt for Manchester United and England.

In 2003, he got a Latin inking on left inner arm reading ‘So that I love and cherish’ and ‘Spiritual perfection’ onto his right.

Later in that year, he celebrated his move to Real Madrid by flying over his tattooist Louis Malloy to create the cross design on his back. 

In more recent years, he has moved away from his crowded arms to create works on his torso, including a religious scene depicting Jesus being carried by three cherubs, believed to represent him and his three sons.  

He also has a scene of a woman in a forest over the right-hand side of his chest and in 2010, added an image of Jesus below his ribcage.

The image is based on a painting called The Man Of Sorrows by Catholic artist Matthew R. Brooks and is believed to be another tribute to his grandfather Joe, who passed away aged 83 the year before.

Speaking about how he chooses his designs, the iconic star has explained: ‘They’re about the important people in my life, who I want to have with me always.’

There are now hopes for an Autumn comeback for Catherine as Reports say that the Princess of Wales private secretary Tom white, her assistant private secretary Natalie Burrows, and the Wales’s communication secretary Lee Thompson have been holding more regular meetings with the princess so they can plan her future public appearances and engagements. It’s a celebration that her treatment is complete, however, a slightly less rosy perspective comes into view.

Friends of the princess say that the uncertainty of her good days and bad days still remains true. As the report sets out, people understand that recovery is a long journey. Those two words – “long journey” – do not make it sound as if there’s any sort of definitive end date in sight for the difficult chapter of cancer treatments and managing her health on good and bad days. Those key words mean that Catherine being able to get back to her usual busy royal roster could be quite a way off yet.

How long is “a way off” in this regard? She has clearly split from King Charles, who favored a much speedier return to public duties after only 3 months away following his own cancer diagnosis. Chemotherapy uses powerful drugs to attack tumors and is typically given to treat cancer directly or shrink a tumor in preparation for surgery. But it could also be used as a preventative option in the hope of stopping cancer from coming back, with up to a 46% decrease in recurring cases according to a 2019 study.

Preventative chemotherapy, also called adjuvant chemotherapy, aims to stop cancer coming back when the main tumor has been removed from the body. Cancer can spread to other parts of the body through a process called metastasis, where tiny cancerous cells break off from the main tumor and take root elsewhere. Royal biographer Ingrid Seward makes claims about the lead up to the Princess of Wales’ nuptials in her new book, “My Mother And I”

Princess Diana’s father, Earl Spencer, helped convince her that she shouldn’t call off her wedding to then-Prince Charles, according to claims in a new book from a royal biographer.

An excerpt from Ingrid Seward’s new book My Mother And I, published by the Daily Mail this weekend claims that “a month to go until she married the heir to the throne” during her July 1981 wedding, Princess Diana attended Prince Andrew’s 21st birthday at Windsor Castle and was hoping to dance with her fiancé, Prince Charles.

As Elton John performed at the gathering, the now-King Charles “spent the entire evening dutifully working the room and making sure he spoke with as many people as possible,” Seward wrote.

“Diana was in despair. Her fiancé had been away in America for most of the previous week, yet he clearly had no desire to dance with her,” the excerpt continued. “Feeling emotionally drained, she threw herself into dancing frantically with one man after another — and finally just dancing by herself.”

Prince Andrew’s 21st birthday party took place in June of 1981, and, per Business Insider, Elton John described it in his 2019 memoir “Me” as “the world’s quietest disco,” explaining that nobody wanted to offend Queen Elizabeth, who was present.

Meanwhile, according to Seward, at one point during the evening, footman Mark Simpson spotted Princess Diana “looking exhausted and lost in her thoughts yet still moving in slow, rhythmic time to some tune in her head” in the castle quadrangle.

The excerpt then claims that Princess Diana made her way to her father’s home in Northamptonshire at 5:30 a.m. after the party, feeling “distraught, flustered, angry and had no intention of ever going back. As far as Diana was concerned, the Royal Wedding was off.”

“But when she explained her decision to her father, Earl Spencer, he was appalled,” the author continued. “After calming her down, he pointed out it would be an act of gross discourtesy to break off her engagement to the future King so close to the wedding.”

“And, anyway, wasn’t it what she’d always wanted? Didn’t she remember him telling her that she should only marry a man she loved – and her firm reply: ‘That is what I am doing’? Diana wasn’t immediately convinced,” Seward added.

In the Daily Mail excerpt of My Mother And I, Seward goes on to claim that, eventually, after “gusts of tears and spells of indecision,” Princess Diana “allowed her father to talk her round.”

“She couldn’t deny that she still wanted to be the Princess of Wales. And, at 19, she was young enough still to believe in happy endings, despite what her instincts had told her on that terrible night,” Seward wrote.

My Mother And I tells the story of King Charles and his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, and is released on Feb. 15 via Simon & Schuster. Later in the excerpt published this weekend, the author also writes about Princess Diana’s relationship with the late monarch, claiming that those who knew her found Diana “enchanting,” and that Queen Elizabeth “had just two reservations.”

“She wondered whether anyone that young could differentiate between the man and the prince,” Seward wrote. “And she couldn’t help thinking that the Spencer girl would be far better suited to her younger son, Andrew.”

Eventually, according to the author, the Queen invited the couple to Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate, where the biographer claims Diana “looked marvelous, very relaxed and quite thrilled with herself.”

Diana and King Charles eventually wed on July 29, 1981 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, five months after announcing their engagement on Feb. 24, 1981. The pair would ultimately divorce in 1996, a year before Diana died in a car crash in Paris.

The wedding itself saw the largest TV audience for a wedding of 750 million people in 74 countries, as previously reported.

Princess Diana later spoke to Andrew Morton about the wedding for his 1992 book, Diana: Her True Story in Her Own Words. “I remember being so in love with my husband that I couldn’t take my eyes off him,” she told Morton. “I just absolutely thought I was the luckiest girl in the world. He was going to look after me.”

In an excerpt from Lady Colin Campbell’s The Real Diana, published in 1998, Diana again described the nuptials: “It was heaven, amazing, wonderful, though I was so nervous when I was walking up the aisle that I swore my knees would knock and make a noise.”
