Guenther Steiner’s Brutal Reality Check: Why McLaren’s 2025 Title “Success” Was Actually a Structural Failure

The confetti has barely settled on the 2025 Formula 1 season, and while Woking celebrates Lando Norris’s maiden World Championship, one prominent voice is refusing to join the applause. Guenther Steiner, the former Haas team principal turned unfiltered pundit, has issued a stark warning to McLaren: you didn’t win this championship; you survived it.

In a season defined by its razor-thin margins, Lando Norris secured the crown by a mere two points—the closest finish the sport has seen since the heart-stopping showdowns of 2007 and 2008. To the casual observer, the result is all that matters. The trophy is in the cabinet, the history books are updated, and the papaya team is back on top. But for Steiner, that two-point gap isn’t a badge of honor. It is undeniable proof of a “structural failure” that nearly cost them everything.

    The High Cost of Equality

At the heart of Steiner’s critique is McLaren’s staunch refusal to establish a traditional hierarchy. Throughout 2025, the team maintained a strict “equal status” policy between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. On the surface, it was a triumph of modern sporting philosophy—two elite drivers, free to race, unburdened by the draconian team orders of the past. It kept morale high and seemingly doubled the team’s offensive capability.

However, Steiner argues that this perceived strength was actually McLaren’s greatest liability. By refusing to consolidate their efforts behind a single title contender immediately after the summer break—the traditional “lockdown” period for championship campaigns—McLaren left the door ajar. They didn’t slam it shut on the competition; they left it open just wide enough for a predator to slip through.

That predator, predictably, was Max Verstappen.

“What worked once may be impossible to repeat,” Steiner warned, highlighting that the internal stalemate at McLaren allowed Red Bull Racing to remain in contention far longer than their pace should have allowed. In Steiner’s view, the championship should never have gone down to the final race. Had McLaren chosen a lead driver earlier, consolidating points and strategy around one spearhead, the title fight would have likely ended weeks in advance. Instead, they played with fire and survived by inches.

    The Red Bull Resurgence

The danger of McLaren’s gamble was compounded by the fact that their rivals did not stand still. While McLaren was busy managing internal fairness, Red Bull was ruthlessly optimizing for survival. Steiner points to the post-summer resurgence of the Milton Keynes outfit, driven by a crucial Monza-spec floor upgrade and significant structural changes under Laurent Mekies.

These improvements pulled Verstappen back into race-winning form at the most critical juncture of the season. Momentum, as Steiner notes, shifted precisely when McLaren needed control the most. By splitting strategies and allowing Norris and Piastri to take points off one another, McLaren effectively subsidized Red Bull’s recovery. Verstappen’s late-season charge, which brought him within a whisker of a fifth title, wasn’t just down to his brilliance; it was allowed to happen because McLaren failed to close ranks.

“Red Bull didn’t force its way back into contention; it was invited,” Steiner asserts. Every race where McLaren prioritized “fairness” over “maximization” was a lifeline thrown to their rival. The “leakage” of points—scattered between two drivers rather than funneling toward one—created a false narrative that the fight was closer than the car performance dictated.

    A Controversial “What If”

Perhaps the most provocative element of Steiner’s analysis is his take on who that lead driver should have been. In a comment that is sure to spark fierce debate among fans, Steiner suggests that had McLaren chosen a number one driver after the summer break, the logic of the season might have actually pointed toward Oscar Piastri.

This isn’t an indictment of Norris, but rather a reflection on momentum and the cold calculus of strategy. Steiner implies that the refusal to make that hard choice didn’t just hurt Norris; it potentially stifled Piastri too. The indecision created a “chronic inefficiency” where neither driver could fully capitalize on the car’s dominance.

Steiner frames the situation not as a personality clash, but as a failure of governance. When you have two drivers operating at such an elite level, “neutrality becomes paralysis.” Every pit stop, every overtake, every defensive move carries championship weight. By refusing to designate a primary beneficiary, McLaren forced their drivers to operate in a strategic grey zone, while Red Bull’s singular focus on Verstappen provided a clarity of purpose that nearly overturned the points deficit.

    Winning the Wrong Way?

The uncomfortable truth Steiner forces us to confront is that winning can sometimes teach the wrong lessons. “Success becomes proof of concept instead of a warning sign,” he argues. Because Norris won, McLaren can now tell themselves that their system works. They can point to the trophies and say that equality is the future.

But Steiner believes this is a dangerous delusion. A two-point margin in a season where they often had the fastest car suggests they underachieved relative to their potential. “Margins like that don’t signal balance; they signal leakage.”

The warning for 2026 is clear: luck is not a strategy. The conditions that made the 2025 season so perilous—two top-tier drivers, a competitive rival, and high stakes—are not going away. If anything, they will intensify. Norris and Piastri are no longer developing prospects; they are finished products, both capable of winning world titles. The tension between them will naturally grow, and the “brotherhood” that survived 2025 may not survive the pressure of a second title fight.

    The Inevitable Choice

Steiner’s final conclusion is grim but pragmatic. Formula 1 history rewards optimization, not democracy. The teams that build dynasties—Schumacher’s Ferrari, Hamilton’s Mercedes, Verstappen’s Red Bull—are almost always defined by a clear, ruthless hierarchy.

“Time won’t solve this,” Steiner declares. Unless one driver decisively separates himself on pure pace, McLaren’s management will eventually be forced to intervene. The fantasy of two equal number ones is sustainable when you are fighting for fourth place. When you are fighting for championships, it is a recipe for disaster.

In 2025, McLaren absorbed the cost of their philosophy. They paid for their fairness with lost points, frayed nerves, and a finale that was far too close for comfort. They survived, but as Steiner reminds us, survival is not dominance.

The question now hanging over Woking is whether they have the courage to fix a system that, on paper, just delivered them the world. Next time, Red Bull might not be so forgiving, and a two-point swing could easily go the other way. McLaren has been warned: the “fair” way might just be the losing way in 2026.

  • The 0.4-Second Loophole: How a Secret Engine Trick Could Decide the 2026 F1 Championship Before the Lights Go Out

The 0.4-Second Loophole: How a Secret Engine Trick Could Decide the 2026 F1 Championship Before the Lights Go Out

Formula 1 is standing on the precipice of its most significant revolution in years. As the sport prepares to hit the reset button for the 2026 season, a storm is brewing behind the closed doors of team factories—a storm that threatens to decide the championship before a single wheel turns in anger. With sweeping changes to engines, aerodynamics, and technical regulations, the entire grid is braced for a shuffle. But new reports suggest that the playing field may be anything but level.

    The “Thermal Expansion” Controversy

At the heart of the paddock chatter is a brewing scandal involving the new engine regulations. A massive controversy has erupted surrounding a technical loophole that could gift savvy teams an insurmountable advantage. Reports indicate that both Mercedes and Red Bull have identified a method to bypass the strict new compression ratio limits set by the FIA.

The trick relies on the laws of physics rather than digital manipulation. By utilizing “thermal expansion”—the natural heating and expanding of engine components during operation—teams can effectively alter their engine’s compression ratio while the car is on track. When the engine is cold and undergoing FIA scrutiny, it is perfectly legal. However, once the heat of competition kicks in, the parts expand, increasing the compression ratio and unlocking significantly more power.

The numbers being whispered in the paddock are nothing short of terrifying for the competition. Insiders suggest this exploit could be worth up to 0.4 seconds per lap. In a sport where pole positions are decided by thousandths of a second, a four-tenths advantage is not just a gap; it is a chasm.

Rivals including Ferrari, Honda, and Audi have reportedly lodged complaints with the FIA, furious that this “grey area” is being exploited. However, the governing body finds itself in a bind: the current regulations do not explicitly ban the use of thermal expansion in this manner. The talk of the town is a potential compromise where the trick remains legal for 2026 but faces a ban from 2027 onwards. If this holds, 2026 could become a two-horse race before pre-season testing even begins.

    Mercedes: The Returning Giants?

If there is one team poised to capitalize on this chaos, it is Mercedes. Historically, the Silver Arrows have thrived during major regulatory overhauls, and their expertise in hybrid technology is unmatched. The 2026 rules place a heavy emphasis on electrical power, playing directly into the hands of the German manufacturer.

While Team Principal Toto Wolff remains publicly cautious, refusing to compare the current atmosphere to the pre-dominance days of 2013, insiders paint a different picture. The mood at Brackley is described as “very positive.” If the reported 0.4-second advantage is real, Mercedes could be effectively unbeatable.

Bolstering their campaign is a refreshed lineup featuring the proven George Russell and the highly-rated rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Furthermore, Mercedes’ potential dominance has a ripple effect; as an engine supplier, their performance could lift customers McLaren, Williams, and Alpine up the grid as well.

    Red Bull’s Huge Gamble

Conversely, the reigning titans, Red Bull Racing, face their most uncertain winter in a decade. 2026 marks the debut of the Red Bull Powertrains-Ford unit, the team’s first-ever in-house engine. Building a power unit from scratch is a monumental task, and reports suggest the project is facing significant struggles.

While Red Bull is aware of the Mercedes compression trick—allegedly thanks to a Mercedes engineer who defected to Milton Keynes—they have reportedly been unable to replicate it effectively themselves. Compounding their issues is the retirement of long-time advisor Helmut Marko and a driver lineup gamble that places rookie Isack Hadjar alongside Max Verstappen. Even Verstappen has publicly admitted that their era of dominance is at risk. If the engine is a disaster, 2026 could be a long, painful year for the champions.

Ferrari and Aston Martin: The Wild Cards

Ferrari, always the enigma of Formula 1, has gone “all in” on 2026. The Scuderia reportedly halted development on their 2025 car early to focus entirely on the new regulations. With a dream lineup of Charles Leclerc and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, Maranello has no excuses left. Hamilton will be under immense pressure to secure a record-breaking eighth title in what could be his final campaign. However, Ferrari’s historical Achilles’ heel—strategy and operations—remains a looming concern.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin is shaping up to be the season’s dark horse. With a state-of-the-art factory, a new wind tunnel, and the genius of Adrian Newey designing the car, the ingredients for success are present. Their works partnership with Honda, a manufacturer renowned for engineering excellence, could provide the power needed to fight at the front. For Lance Stroll, driving alongside Fernando Alonso in a Newey-designed car will be the ultimate test of his credentials.

    The Rest of the Grid

The midfield sees Williams hoping to leverage their Mercedes power and a strong lineup of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon to challenge for podiums. Audi, taking over Sauber, enters as a new works team but faces the steep learning curve typical of new manufacturers. Alpine hopes the switch to Mercedes power will salvage their competitive status, while the brand-new American entry, Cadillac, prepares for a learning year with veterans Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.

As the 2026 season approaches, the question remains: Will the “thermal expansion” trick define the era, or can the FIA close the loophole in time? One thing is certain—the engineering war has already begun, and the casualties could be heavy.

“STRICTLY WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.” BBC CROWNS Rylan Clark as New Face of the Show — But It’s the SHOCK Partner Reveal That Sent Britain Into TOTAL MELTDOWN Producers stayed silent. Insiders didn’t dare leak it. Then the announcement dropped — and within seconds, social media EXPLODED. Gasps, tears, disbelief… even hardcore Strictly fans admit: “We did NOT see this coming.” One bold decision. One once-in-a-decade twist. And a moment that could change Strictly forever.

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the glittering world of ballroom dancing, the BBC has officially announced Rylan Clark as the new host of *Strictly Come Dancing*, stepping into the formidable shoes left vacant by long-time presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. The revelation, dropped like a bombshell during a prime-time special on November 26, 2025, confirms what insiders have been whispering for weeks: the charismatic former *X Factor* star and beloved radio personality will lead the show’s 2026 series. But the real jaw-dropper? His co-host is none other than Emma Willis, the no-nonsense presenter known for her work on *Big Brother* and *The Voice UK*—a choice that has left fans reeling, divided, and utterly surprised.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of Tess and Claudia’s emotional exit, revealed just last month in a joint Instagram video that caught even the show’s insiders off guard. The duo, who have helmed *Strictly* since 2004 and 2014 respectively, cited a desire for more family time and new projects as their reasons for bowing out after the current series wraps. “It’s been an incredible ride, but it’s time to hang up our sequins,” Tess said in the video, her voice cracking with emotion. Claudia, ever the witty counterpart, added, “We’ve laughed, cried, and glitter-bombed our way through two decades. What a sparkle!” Their departure marks the end of an era for the BBC’s flagship entertainment program, which has dazzled audiences with its mix of celebrity glamour, professional prowess, and occasional controversy.

Rylan Clark, 37, is no stranger to the *Strictly* family. Rising to fame on *The X Factor* in 2012, where his larger-than-life personality and infectious energy won over Simon Cowell and the nation, Rylan transitioned seamlessly into presenting. He hosted *Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two* from 2019 to 2023, earning rave reviews for his empathetic interviews and cheeky banter with contestants. Fans remember his heartfelt moments, like consoling tearful dancers after tough critiques or hyping up underdogs before live shows. His departure from *It Takes Two* in 2023 to focus on other ventures, including his BBC Radio 2 show and various  TV gigs, left a void—but now, he’s back in a bigger role than ever.

“Rylan’s the perfect fit,” a BBC insider told us exclusively. “He’s got that sparkle, that warmth, and he knows the show inside out. Plus, he’s adored by the viewers.” Betting odds had pegged him as a frontrunner alongside names like Bill Bailey and Alan Carr, but the official nod still feels like a triumph for the Essex boy done good. Rylan himself reacted with trademark humility and excitement on social media shortly after the announcement: “Pinch me! Hosting *Strictly*? Dream come true. Can’t wait to bring the glitz with my fabulous co-host. Let’s dance!”

But it’s the choice of Emma Willis as his co-host that’s truly raised eyebrows. At 49, Emma brings a wealth of experience from reality TV heavyweights, where her poised demeanor and sharp interviewing skills have made her a household name. Yet, her pairing with Rylan is unexpected—fans had speculated duos like Rylan with Fleur East (who replaced him on *It Takes Two*) or even a solo host shake-up. “Emma? Really?” one fan tweeted in disbelief. “Love her on *Big Brother*, but *Strictly* is all about fun and flair. This feels like a curveball.” Others praised the move: “Fresh energy! Emma’s class and Rylan’s charm—genius combo.”

Sources close to the production reveal that Emma was a last-minute contender, edging out other favorites after impressing in screen tests. “The chemistry was electric,” our insider dished. “Rylan’s bubbly, Emma’s grounded—they balance each other like Tess and Claudia did.” Emma, married to Busted’s Matt Willis and a mother of three, has spoken openly about her love for dance shows. In a past interview, she confessed, “I’d kill to be part of *Strictly*—the glamour, the stories, it’s TV magic.” Her addition signals the BBC’s intent to evolve the format, perhaps injecting more in-depth contestant chats amid the tango and tango.

The shake-up couldn’t come at a more pivotal time for *Strictly*. The 2025 series has been marred by scandals, from judge walkout rumors to contestant injuries, prompting calls for a refresh. Tess and Claudia’s exit, while voluntary, was influenced by the show’s grueling schedule—weekends dominated by live broadcasts, leaving little room for personal life. BBC chief content officer Kate Phillips addressed the changes in a statement: “Tess and Claudia have been the heart of *Strictly*, but we’re thrilled to welcome Rylan and Emma. They’ll honor the legacy while bringing new vibrancy.”

Reactions from the *Strictly* alumni have poured in. Former winner Bill Bailey, who was tipped for the role, tweeted his support: “Rylan? Brilliant choice! And Emma—unexpected but spot on. Can’t wait to watch.” Judge Craig Revel Horwood, known for his acerbic wit, dropped a hint on air last week: “Darlings, big changes ahead—fabulous!” Fans speculate this could mean more judge involvement, perhaps even guest spots.

Rylan’s journey to this pinnacle is a testament to his resilience. After *X Factor*, he navigated personal highs and lows, including his 2021 divorce from Dan Neal and mental health battles, which he shared candidly in his memoir *Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future*. His advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and mental health has endeared him to millions, making him more than just a presenter—he’s a role model. “I’ve grown so much,” Rylan reflected in a recent Radio 2 broadcast. “Hosting *Strictly*? It’s full circle.”

Emma, too, brings depth. Her no-frills style contrasts Rylan’s flamboyance, promising dynamic on-screen moments. Imagine her grilling judges on scores while Rylan rallies the crowd—pure entertainment gold. But not everyone’s convinced. A Reddit thread exploded with debates: “Why not keep it in the family? Rylan yes, but Emma feels like a mismatch.” Others worry about gender balance, with two hosts again but a fresh dynamic.

As *Strictly* gears up for 2026, producers promise innovations: more diverse celebrities, interactive viewer votes, and perhaps themed weeks honoring the show’s history. Rylan and Emma’s debut will be scrutinized, but if their past successes are any indication, they’ll waltz through the pressure.

Tess and Claudia’s final bow from Blackpool Tower Ballroom last weekend was tearful, with tributes from stars like Rose Ayling-Ellis and Hamza Yassin. “You’ve been our guiding lights,” Rose signed in a video message. Now, the torch passes to Rylan and Emma—a hot new era for *Strictly*, full of surprises, sequins, and steps into the unknown.

In the end, this announcement isn’t just about hosts; it’s about reinvention. *Strictly Come Dancing* has survived scandals, pandemics, and shifting tastes. With Rylan at the helm and Emma by his side, the show is poised to shine brighter than ever. As Rylan might say: “Keep dancing!”

  • The End of a Dynasty: Red Bull Racing Faces Total Collapse as Key Figures Exit and Rivals Circle

The End of a Dynasty: Red Bull Racing Faces Total Collapse as Key Figures Exit and Rivals Circle

The Formula 1 world is no stranger to dramatic shifts in power, but what is currently unfolding at Red Bull Racing feels less like a shift and more like a landslide. The team that has dominated the grid with ruthless efficiency for the past few years appears to be dismantling piece by piece, leaving fans and analysts questioning the future of the reigning champions. The latest and perhaps most personal blow to the team’s structure centers on Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s trusted race engineer, whose potential departure signals the end of an era.

The Breaking Point: Gianpiero Lambiase on the Move?

For years, the voice of Gianpiero Lambiase, affectionately known as “GP,” has been a constant presence in Max Verstappen’s ear. Their relationship, often described as resembling an “old married couple” due to their bickering yet deeply effective communication, has been a cornerstone of Verstappen’s success. However, recent reports from the Italian press suggest that this partnership is nearing its conclusion. Lambiase is reportedly looking to leave Red Bull Racing ahead of the 2026 season, with his eyes set on a role that offers not just a change of scenery, but a fundamental shift in lifestyle.

The rumor mill has gone into overdrive with news that Lambiase has received serious offers from rival teams. Aston Martin, a team already making waves with their aggressive recruitment, has reportedly put a substantial offer on the table. But they are not alone; Williams, led by the ambitious James Vowles, is also entering the fray, creating a high-stakes bidding war for one of the sport’s most respected engineering minds.

A Personal Battle Behind the Scenes

While the allure of a new challenge and a higher salary is always a factor in Formula 1, the driving force behind Lambiase’s potential exit appears to be deeply personal. It has recently come to light that his wife, Eloise, has been battling breast cancer. In a courageous public post, she revealed that while the worst of the treatment is hopefully behind them, the journey has been arduous.

This heartbreaking context sheds new light on Lambiase’s motivations. The grueling 24-race calendar of modern Formula 1 demands significant time away from home, a sacrifice that becomes increasingly difficult when family health is a priority. Reports indicate that Lambiase has informed Red Bull of his desire to step back from traveling to every race next year. He is seeking a role that allows him to remain influential without the relentless travel demands of a race engineer.

The offers from Aston Martin and Williams are rumored to cater specifically to this need. Aston Martin, in particular, is said to be proposing a senior management role that would not require trackside attendance at every Grand Prix. This level of flexibility, combined with a lucrative financial package, makes the prospect of leaving Red Bull incredibly difficult to turn down.

    The Great Red Bull Exodus

Lambiase’s potential departure is not an isolated incident; rather, it is the latest chapter in what can only be described as a mass exodus of talent from Red Bull Racing. The “Dream Team” that built the car dominating the current regulation cycle is rapidly dissolving.

The list of departures is staggering. Rob Marshall, a top engineer, has already moved to McLaren and played a pivotal role in their resurgence. Jonathan Wheatley, the sporting director and a key pillar of the team’s operational success, has left to lead the Sauber/Audi project. Will Courtenay, the head of race strategy, is also set to join McLaren. Perhaps most significantly, the legendary Adrian Newey, the design genius responsible for Red Bull’s aerodynamic supremacy, departed the team earlier in the season and has since joined Aston Martin.

Adding to the chaos are reports that Helmut Marko, the team’s long-standing advisor and the man responsible for its driver development program, is officially out of the team as of just before Christmas. Marko’s exit would mark a severance of one of the last remaining links to the team’s original leadership structure under Dietrich Mateschitz. With Christian Horner now standing effectively alone amidst the ruins of the old guard, questions about the team’s internal stability and future direction are louder than ever.

    Rivals Capitalize on the Chaos

As Red Bull struggles to plug the leaks, their rivals are sensing blood in the water. The involvement of Williams in the pursuit of Lambiase is particularly interesting. Under James Vowles, Williams is attempting to reclaim its historic prestige, and acquiring a talent like GP would be a massive coup. While they may not have the bottomless pockets of Aston Martin, the fact that they are even in the conversation suggests a serious intent to compete at the highest level.

Aston Martin, however, remains the most potent threat. With Lawrence Stroll’s limitless resources and the recent acquisition of Adrian Newey, reuniting Newey with Lambiase would create a technical super-team capable of dominating the grid. The long-term implication is clear: Aston Martin is building an environment that would be incredibly attractive to Max Verstappen himself, should he ever decide to leave Red Bull.

Technical Drama: The Engine Compression Loophole

Away from the personnel drama, technical controversies are brewing that could impact the competitive order in 2025. Ferrari, Honda, and Audi have reportedly written to the FIA seeking clarification on a “gray area” regarding engine compression testing.

The rumor is that Mercedes has found a way to increase engine compression—and thus performance—when the engine is hot, a condition that current testing methods (done at ambient temperatures) fail to catch. If true, this trick could give Mercedes-powered teams, including McLaren and Williams, a significant advantage.

The FIA faces a dilemma: ban the trick immediately and risk leaving Mercedes teams without legal engines for the start of the season, or allow it temporarily while introducing tougher tests later in the year. This political battle highlights the intense technical warfare that defines Formula 1, with Ferrari and others desperate to close the gap before the lights go out in Australia.

    Ferrari’s “Now or Never” Moment

Meanwhile, at Maranello, the pressure is mounting. Charles Leclerc has made it clear that 2025 is a “now or never” year for Ferrari. With Lewis Hamilton joining the team, the dynamic is set to shift dramatically. Hamilton, despite his age, brings a wealth of experience, but questions remain about how quickly he can adapt to a car that may not perfectly suit his preferred driving style.

Ferrari’s inconsistent performance in the previous season, where they fluctuated between brilliance and mediocrity, has left the team searching for answers. The arrival of Hamilton is seen by many as a catalyst for change, but former Ferrari engineers have warned that the team’s operational flaws must be addressed if they hope to challenge for the title.

    Conclusion: Verstappen in Isolation

Ultimately, all roads lead back to Max Verstappen. The departure of Gianpiero Lambiase would strip him of his most trusted confidant and technical ally. With his mentor Helmut Marko gone, his designer Adrian Newey at a rival team, and the operational backbone of Red Bull crumbling, Verstappen finds himself increasingly isolated.

The 2026 regulation changes loom large, and with Red Bull’s powertrain project still an unproven quantity, the stability and expertise of the team are more critical than ever. If Red Bull cannot stem the tide of departures, they risk not only losing their dominance but potentially losing their star driver to a rival team that has successfully reassembled the pieces of the Red Bull dynasty elsewhere. The coming months will be decisive, but for now, the once-unshakeable Red Bull empire looks more fragile than ever.

  • THEY ARE KILLING OUR FARMERS! WHILE BRUSSELS BURNS, STARMER’S SILENCE IS DEAFENING.  The elite have declared war on the very people who put food on your table! EU forced to delay hated new plans after farmers stage extraordinary protest in Brussels

WATCH: Farmers clash with police during protests in Brussels

The European Union has delayed the signing of a divisive trade agreement with South American nations amid intense farmers’ protests in Brussels.

This postponement has once again scuppered the EU’s plans to finalise the long-stalled Mercosur free trade accord.

The agreement, which has been under negotiation for a quarter of a century, would establish the world’s largest free-trade zone encompassing between 700 and 780 million people.

Under its terms, Mercosur nations Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay would reduce tariffs on European exports, whilst the EU would expand food import quotas and lower duties.

However, farmers across the continent have argued that increased imports of beef, chicken and cereals from the South American market would threaten their livelihoods.

To protest the planned sealing of the agreement, 10,000 farmers from across all 27 EU member states descended on Brussels.

More than 1,000 tractors rolled through the streets of the Belgian capital as part of the mostly peaceful demonstrations that occasionally spilt over into chaotic scenes.

The EU has delayed a divisive trade deal after fiery protests from farmers in Brussels

Protesters were seen hurling potatoes and eggs at police while blocking roads and igniting fireworks.

Some also brought down the Christmas tree standing outside the European Parliament, replacing it with a blazing pile of tyres and debris.

Police deployed water cannons and tear gas to manage the crowds, with black smoke engulfing surrounding streets.

Windows at the parliament building were smashed by troublemakers on the fringes of the demonstration, prompting officials to email staff, warning them to keep away from the windows.

As many as 10,000 farmers from across all 27 EU member states protested the plans outside the European Parliment

In the shadow of what some called the century’s largest mobilisation of European farmers, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen announced on X: “We have reached out to our Mercosur partners and agreed to postpone slightly the signature.”

A Commission spokesman also confirmed: “The European Commission proposed that it be postponed to early January to further discuss with countries that still need a little bit more time.”

The delay follows a telephone conversation on Thursday between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

“Meloni explained that she is not against the agreement, she is simply experiencing some political embarrassment because of the Italian farmers, but that she is certain she is capable of convincing them to accept the agreement,” President Lula said.

“She asked me that if we have patience for a week, 10 days, at most a month, Italy will join the agreement,” he added.

Ms Meloni’s office stated on Thursday evening: “The Italian government is ready to sign the agreement as soon as the necessary responses are provided to farmers, which depend on the decisions of the European Commission and can be finalised quickly.”

French President Emmanuel Macron also called for a delay, making clear upon arriving in Brussels that Paris would not back the agreement without enhanced protections for its agricultural sector.

“I want to tell our farmers, who have been making France’s position clear all along: we consider that we are not there yet, and the deal cannot be signed” as it stands, President Macron told reporters.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni requested a delay in the agreement

He pledged that France would resist any “attempt to force this through”.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz took a contrasting view, pressing for rapid progress on the accord.

“If the European Union wants to remain credible in global trade policy, then decisions must be made now,” Chancellor Merz stated in Brussels on Thursday.

Germany, Spain and the Nordic countries remain strong advocates for the pact, keen to boost exports amid Chinese competition and potential American tariffs.

After undergoing more than 250 surgeries following an acid attack, Katie Piper bravely donned a blue bikini to show off her toned body. Seventeen long years after the pain, Katie Piper proves that true beauty can never be extinguished

Katie Piper has left fans stunned after sharing breathtaking bikini snaps from her sun-drenched family holiday—nearly two decades after surviving a horrific acid attack that changed her life forever.

The Loose Women star, now 41, looked radiant in a blue strapless bikini while paddleboarding during her trip to Gibraltar with husband Richie and their daughters Belle, 11, and Penelope, 7. Her toned abs, powerful smile, and glowing skin didn’t just draw praise—they told a story of strength and survival.

The photos, posted on July 20, revealed moments of joy, from beachside fun to sweet cuddles with her children. But one shot in particular—a close-up of her bikini top—sent fans into overdrive.

One follower commented: “Looks like a fab holiday… your body Katie… THOSE boobs!!!!!!!!” while another wrote, “If there was one woman you would choose to inspire this generation and the next—it would be you. Your strength, resilience, and courage need to be applauded.”

Katie has undergone more than 250 operations since ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch arranged the attack in March 2008, where an accomplice threw acid on her, blinding her in one eye and leaving extensive burns on her face, neck, chest, and arms. Lynch was sentenced to life with a minimum of 16 years, and the attacker, Stefan Sylvestre, was released on licence in 2018.

Despite it all, Katie chose to waive her right to anonymity and has used her platform to raise awareness about burn survivors. Her bikini snaps, more than a display of beauty, are a testament to survival, motherhood, and unshakable confidence.

Jason Manford’s heartbreak over grandmother’s death: ‘We were so lucky to have you in our lives’

Jason Manford, who hosts tonight’s Royal Variety Performance (December 21), is at the top of his game.

But he couldn’t have got there without the support of his beloved nana, who he called “inspirational”.

Since she passed away in 2023, Jason has been open about the extraordinary impact she had on his life, sharing a number of tributes online.

Naturally, fans and celebrities flocked to support him.

When she died, Jason shared a video of the pair singing together, along with the caption: “Goodnight Nana Manford, we were so lucky to have you in our lives for so long.”

“99 years of wonderful moments and incredible memories. Even when dementia took hold, she loved music. Whether making cardigans for kids or bullets for Lancaster bombers, she was an inspirational woman.”

At the time, fellow comedians responded supportively on X, with Ed Byrne writing: “Aww mate. That’s a beautiful tribute.”

Sally-Anne Hayward added: “Sorry for your loss Jason,” followed by a number of kisses.

Other fans with similar experiences also reached out to Jason.

“One of the very last things I did with my glorious mamma on the day she died was to play Elvis to her,” one shared. “She hadn’t been able to speak for a couple of days…but suddenly she gently sang a line of the song.”

Another wrote: “Thank you for sharing, Jason… Your nana is beautiful… My mum never forgot the words to all her favourite songs, even in her final moments, she responded to tunes – the fabulous care team who were with my mum at the end, played a Jim Reeves CD day and night, so Mum was not alone.”

After his nan was hospitalised in February 2023, Jason told the Daily Mail that she was “desperate” to get to her 100th birthday.

Describing her hospital treatment, he said: “They get to a certain age, and they stop eating and drinking, so we just had to get her in and on a drip, but she’s feeling much better.

“She’ll be back home in the next couple of days. It was a real turnaround; it didn’t look like it was going that way. She turns 100 in December, and she’s desperate to get there, so it was a bit worrying.”

The Royal Variety Performance will air on ITV and ITVX on December 21 at 7:05pm.

Detectives are trying to piece together the timeline around when Christian Brueckner was in the Portuguese resort of Praia De Luz.

Police in Germany are in a race against time to track down former lovers, friends and work colleagues of the prime suspect in the Madeliene McCann investigation. Detectives are trying to piece together the timeline around when Christian Brueckner was in the Portuguese resort of Praia De Luz. They think he was drifting around the area at the time when the then toddler went missing while on holiday with her parents and younger twin siblings. But officers are believed to have just a few more weeks to save their case, as the Mirror reported last week. They fear their case could be scrapped by the New Year if they can’t come up with a fresh lead. Just a few days ago, the convicted paedophile’s lawyer claimed the German police’s investigation was “shaky”.

Brueckner is yet to be formally charged – but was named by cops as the prime suspect. He has a long criminal history, for both burglary and sex crimes, including against young girls. In the past quarter of a century, he’s been linked to several disappearances. One six-year-old boy in Portugal in 1996 and a five-year-old girl in Germany in 2015 are thought to be his victims. Christian Brueckner is prime suspect(Image: REX/Shutterstock) A source close to the case told the Sun: “For years he is thought to have been drifting around the island living in a van and they want to understand more about what he was doing during this time and who he was seeing. The big problem they have is that relations with Portuguese cops are at an all-time low.” “Hardly any intelligence is now being shared.

This has therefore left German cops with little choice but to work backwards and to try and trace as many friends, colleagues, former girlfriends and lovers of Christian B as possible. They might hold vital clues.” Madeleine McCann has been missing since 2007(Image: PA) Two years ago Nuray Oezgen spoke up to say she met Christian B while working in a bar in Hanover in 2012 and they eventually rented a place together. But just months into their relationship, she says he became aggressive. She added their relationship broke down when she realised he had an unhealthy obsession with schoolgirls.

The source added: “Christian B lived a very strange life in Germany and later in Praia De Luz. He used a lot of drugs and travelled around meeting women, many of whom went off with him consensually. “So there’s a web of former partners and lovers who could hold really critical information about what he was getting up to. Officers desperately need new leads.”

David Beckham has been seen for the first time since his son Brooklyn blocked his entire family on Instagram.

On Monday the former footballer, 50, attended Stone Roses legend Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield’s funeral with his former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville.

It came after a difficult weekend which saw his son Cruz claim that Brooklyn had blocked his family as their feud escalated to boiling point.

Cruz penned in a post following reports David and Victoria had unfollowed their son: ‘My mum and dad would never unfollow their son [as reports had suggested]. They woke up blocked. As did I.’

On Monday David headed to the funeral – alongside a sea of other famous faces – and understandably looked downcast.

The ceremony at Manchester Cathedral saw guests arriving including Stone Roses singer Ian Brown and Paul Weller, while David and Gary – legends of Mani’s beloved Manchester United – also attended.

Mounfield died peacefully in his sleep aged 63 at his home in Stockport of ‘respiratory issues’ after having the lung condition emphysema, it was revealed last week.

He died on November 20 after collapsing following a seizure, with family sources saying an ambulance was called but he could not be revived.

His death came two years after his wife of 25 years, Imelda died after suffering from bowel cancer. They are survived by their 12-year-old sons Gene and George.

David’s appearance at the funeral comes after the bitter Beckham family feud escalated to new heights over the weekend as Cruz claimed his brother Brooklyn had blocked their entire family on Instagram.

It had first been reported that David and Victoria had stopped following their oldest son, before Cruz, 20, furiously set the record straight.

The claims of the very sudden blocking sparked the obvious question of why he would do such a thing.

And it’s now possible that Brooklyn suddenly cut final ties with his parents and three siblings after Victoria liked a post of his about roasting a chicken.

Aspiring chef Brooklyn, 26, posted another of his regular cooking videos on Instagram last week as he showed his 16 million followers how to brine a chicken.

Victoria is thought to have liked the post which led to a slew of comments under the post urging Brooklyn to fix the feud with his family.

Fans penned: ‘Victoria liked this post. Yay!!! Family is everything’, ‘Go and see your parents, you will regret it later in life’, ‘Call your parents.’

It’s understood that Brooklyn was left annoyed by the comments prompted by his mother’s public like – and decided to block the whole family including his sister Harper, 14.

Brooklyn will be spending Christmas in the US with his wife Nicola Peltz – who no longer follows the Beckhams – and her family.

It comes after The Daily Mail revealed that David and Victoria have been asked to stop contacting Brooklyn and his wife.

It seems that the young couple find Instagram posts by the Beckhams upsetting and anxiety-inducing.

They wake up worrying what might have been posted about them overnight.

‘It would be really in the holiday spirit if the Beckhams could just back off and leave them alone for now,’ a friend of the Peltz Beckhams said on Sunday.

‘The Beckhams started these ‘blocking’ game stories earlier this year and they keep going.

‘Whether someone follows someone else on Insta or any other platform shouldn’t be and isn’t a story. It’s a sad situation, but nothing has changed here.

Mounfield was a passionate and lifelong Manchester United fan

‘Nicola and Brooklyn haven’t been commenting. They just want peace. It would be best for everyone for them [the Beckhams] to stop contacting, commenting and briefing because it’s not accomplishing anything.’

In fact, even the intervention by Cruz is considered another negative briefing by Brooklyn and Nicola. As the friend says: ‘They have requested that the Beckhams back off. They just want to be left alone. The Instagram stuff is just a media play – it feels like more manipulation, more gaslighting. It just drives Brooklyn and Nicola further away.

‘They get upset by the speculation. They are trying to take the high road which is not to react at all and to just live their lives.’

Meanwhile sources in camp Beckham say after the blocking: ‘David and Victoria will never stop loving Brooklyn.

‘They will always be here for him and they always want him to know that, they are devastated at this fall out.

‘So far from this being them, it appears that Brooklyn has blocked them to show them that’s it, this is final.

‘It is very clear that this is a sign of his complete estrangement from his family.

‘For David and Victoria it was their last connection to Brooklyn as he has made it very clear he doesn’t want to talk to them anymore, they haven’t spoken for months and months now.

‘By following him it was a message to him that they still love him and still want to follow his life. Now they can’t do that, but it’s not their doing.’

The Instagram fallout comes just days before Christmas.

Brooklyn will not join his parents and younger brothers Romeo and Cruz or sister Harper.

Instead he is expected to remain in US while the Beckhams celebrate with their wider family at their £10million home in the Cotswolds.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Brooklyn for comment on Cruz’s claims.

It is the most public sign yet that there has is no communication between them amid their spiraling family feud.

Brooklyn’s wife Nicola, 30, also does not follow David and Victoria. They no longer follow her either.

His decision to spend Christmas with his in-laws will come as a blow to his parents and siblings.

In recent weeks, David has appeared to offer a public olive branch to his son, in an apparent bid to put an end to their very public family feud.

The former footballer had shared a throwback picture of himself with Brooklyn and his younger brothers Romeo and Cruz.

Cruz also made sure his brother knew he was thinking of him by sharing a sweet snap of the pair with brother Romeo on the beach in Brazil.

Brooklyn was seen wrapping his arm around his youngest brother Cruz as they posed on the beach.

Relations between Brooklyn, Nicola and the Beckham clan unraveled completely when they did not attend any of David’s 50th birthday celebrations in May. Brooklyn also failed to acknowledge his father’s knighthood in November.

Last week, the Daily Mail revealed how Brooklyn’s nans are devastated they won’t be seeing their grandson this Christmas.

Victoria had shared a festive picture from her parents Jackie and Tony Adams’ house as they placed twelve stockings in a row on their fireplace, one for each grandchild. In pride of place was one reserved for Brooklyn.

The family feud has taken a particularly acute toll on Jackie, as well as David’s mother Sandra.

Some argue that hanging up Brooklyn’s stocking, regardless of the feud, is a sign of hope on Jackie’s part that – somehow, despite everything – Christmas might finally persuade her grandson to put aside his grudges and step on a plane to rejoin the family.

Friends of the Beckhams say Jackie and Sandra are ‘extremely sad’ about the situation.

The source added: ‘They’re not getting any younger and the cold truth of it all is that nobody knows when they will see Brooklyn next. It’s Jackie and Sandra who everyone feels so sorry for.’

David and Victoria will spend some of the festive period in the £60million home they recently bought on Miami’s waterfront.

It was where they were joined last year by Brooklyn and Nicola, and photographs of their Christmas celebrations show everyone having what appeared to be a lovely time.

Victoria is believed to be working hard to put on a brave face and stay strong for her husband and teenage daughter Harper.
