Emmerdale Jeff Hordley’s life off-screen with famous wife and health condition

Cain Dingle’s heart-breaking storyline was confirmed during the Corriedale special episode

Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley has appeared as fan-favourite Cain Dingle on the hit ITV soap for over 25 years. The actor thankfully lives a less dramatic life away from the screen as his on-screen counterpart has been caught up in some of the soap’s most memorable storylines over the years.

Most recently, the actor found himself at the centre of the iconic Corriedale crossover episode with had devastating effects for both soaps. Fans were delighted to see their favourite Weatherfield characters come face to face with their Yorkshire-based counterparts, although in heart-breaking circumstances.

After the crash which saw Corrie’s Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) die, a doctor could be heard telling a mystery patient about a “sizeable mass” which was discovered while testing.

In a shocking turn of events, the camera panned to Cain Dingle in Hotten General as the doctor explained the possibility of cancer. Soap fans were heartbroken by the news, and will have to stay tuned to see how the storyline will play out on-screen in 2026.

Away from the fictional Yorkshire village, the 55-year old actor often shares aspects of his life and has previously opened up about suffering with Crohn’s disease. He was diagnosed in 1996.

Jeff studied at the Manchester Metropolitan University School of Theatre, which is where he met his future wife and Emmerdale co-star Zoe Henry.

Zoe, who is 50, has been in the Yorkshire-based soap since 2000 as Rhona Goskirk. The couple have been married since 2003 and have been in a relationship for over thirty years. They have two children together.

Jeff and Zoe live together in a quaint cottage in the Yorkshire Dales with their children and pets. They share a daughter named Violet and a son named Stan. Violet was born in 2005 and Stan was born in 2008.

Jeff has previously made the decision to modify his diet as a way to treat Crohn’s disease. A nutritionist recommended he follow a strict detox and cut alcohol, sugar, meat, wheat and dairy from his diet.

To help cope with the new lifestyle, Jeff and Zoe also installed an allotment in their rural retreat and cook everything from scratch.

The actor has previously spoken to The Express about his health condition. He said: “Even though I tried to avoid foods that upset my digestive system, such as coffee and Chinese takeaways, I was still sick and tired and I kept losing weight.

“I was a drama student in Manchester and sometimes I had to miss lectures because I was too tired. I even had to drop out of my final year plays.”

Jeff had an operation and was put on medication to manage the illness. In 2002, the actor collapsed while he was at a theatre and luckily, he soon recovered. It was part of this recovery process when he made the decision to make changes to his lifestyle.

Emmerdale airs every weeknight at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX

“PEOPLE SAID WE’D NEVER LAST…” Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen CLAPS BACK — and Reveals the SHOCK Truth Behind His 40-Year Marriage

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has hit back at critics who think his unconventional living situation is ‘strange’.

The interior designer, 60, lives with his wife Jackie, their two grown-up daughters, Hermione, 26, and Cecile, 29, and their husbands Dan and Drew – as well as their four grandchildren, Albion, 8, Demelza, 3, Romily, 1, and Eleanora, 18 months.

Laurence set tongues wagging when he first announced the unusual arrangement that the family would be living all under one roof at his six bedroom Cotswolds manor house.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail, Laurence delighted in speaking about his tight family unit and hit back at haters who disagree with the idea.

He said: ‘I still think a lot of people think it is a bit strange. But actually, it is a very kind of straightforward and instinctive way of a family being together.

‘It’s a very, very odd idea that came out of the 20th century, this idea of of children leaving the home. Actually, traditionally, you stayed if you all worked on the farm together or you worked in the shop together, so in a funny sort of way, we’re just kind of reviving that, but it made great sense for us.

Laurence set tongues wagging when he first announced the unusual arrangement that the family would be living all under one roof at his six bedroom Cotswolds manor house

‘You know, we live in a big house. It was very much just me and Jackie. Why do we not then bring the children and their children in with us?’

Speaking about how the family deal with being in each other’s company every day, Laurence added: ‘There are moments where you’ve got to work quite hard.

‘But I think that happens in any family, but we confront it and get on with them.’

Amid the madness of his busy household, Laurence still manages to keep the spark alive with his wife Jackie.

The smitten couple, who have been together for over four decades, celebrated 35 years of marriage this year.

He said: ‘In January, we will basically have been together for 41 years. So, I mean, that is that’s a big chunk of lifetime.

‘We were very good at making a commitment and in those 41 years, there have been moments where we’ve had to work very hard to make sure that we were still getting on, that we weren’t still sparkling off each other.

‘And I think that’s something that some people are quite quick to give in about.’

Laurence lives with Jackie, their two grown-up daughters, Hermione, 26, and Cecile, 29, and their husbands Dan and Drew – as well as their four grandchildren

The six bedroom property is having to be adapted to cater for the 10 of them

Laurence also has dogs and cats who reside at the countryside home

The sprawling property has impressive gardens

Laurence is gearing up for another exciting release of his property series, House Of The Year alongside judges Jane Larmour, James Fairley and Patricia McGinnis

The designer continued: ‘You do have to find positives. It’s not a Disney movie. You do wake up in the morning and you do feel grumpy. You do kind of have moments where things p*** you off.

‘I’m quite a tolerant person. That’s cool. That works really well. I’m quite laid back. There are times when Jackie is very energised, but, I mean, after 41 years together, you know the ins and the outs. You know the kind of warning signs.’

Laurence is gearing up for another exciting release of his property series, House Of The Year alongside judges Jane Larmour, James Fairley and Patricia McGinnis.

House Of The Year returns to BBC iPlayer and BBC One Northern Ireland with the first five episodes available to watch from Monday 5 January.

In each episode, three new homes will compete for one of five places in the grand final where they could be crowned – House Of The Year.

The grand final will broadcast February 9.

Laurence said: ‘I am very proud of House Of The Year and was involved in the first iteration back in 2010 and it was, and still is, a brilliant way of showcasing a kind of aspirational vision of the housing landscape in Northern Ireland.

‘What I love about coming back to it now, is the fact there is such an immense ramp up in terms of individuality, personality and creativity. I think people no longer feel they must do things in a “grown-up” way.

‘People are letting their “freak flag” fly and are doing things their own way!’

A Salvation Army worker who was sacked after saying migrants should be sent back home ‘on a f***ing boat’ has broken his silence to insist he is not racist.

Charles Markie said he had been working on the homelessness frontline in Dundee for two decades finding accommodation for the vulnerable and those in desperate need of housing.

But he revealed his job had become more difficult in that time due to the large number of places being taken up in the poverty-stricken Scottish city by migrants.

Mr Markie, 56, was sacked from his role at the Salvation Army’s Strathmore Lodge hostel which houses migrants in Dundee, after telling colleagues: ‘There wouldn’t be a housing shortage if we weren’t taking in 150 refugees,’ and ‘send them all back on a f***ing boat’.

He spoke out after an employment tribunal threw out his claim that he had been unfairly dismissed by the Salvation Army and ruled that the actions of the Christian charity which helps the homeless were justified.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Mr Markie said: ‘I’m not a racist. One of the guys that I work with on a daily basis in the office is from South Korea. He was my friend at work, to call me racist is crazy.

‘My mate from Turkey wanted to come to the tribunal with me. My solicitor said no and we would do it ourselves as we have enough so he didn’t come.

‘I don’t have any affiliation with any racist groups or have any negative views about people from other cultures or races.’

Mr Markie, 56, was sacked from his role at the Salvation Army’s Strathmore Lodge hostel which houses migrants in Dundee after making comments about migrants

Mr Mackie stood by his comments which lost him his job, saying he was merely concerned about how the number of migrants in the city had hampered efforts to help tackle Dundee’s long-standing homeless issue.

He said: ‘When I first started the people were predominantly from Dundee. Around seven years ago we started to get more Polish or African people through the door for various reasons.

‘I would treat all people equally, 100 per cent. Initially we weren’t really affected by migrants who would come via boats. We’d get the odd person and we’d always take them in and support them to get into housing.

‘But over the last couple of years it has got worse and we’ve taken in more and more. I had nothing against that at all, as long as we had somewhere for them to go.’

Dundee has seen around 1,000 refugees or migrants settle in the city in the past five years including more than 500 Ukrainians arriving between 2022 and 2024, according to Dundee City Council Figures.

Around 250 nationals from Syria, Iraq and other troubled countries have arrived as part of resettlement schemes since 2020.

Mr Markie whose job involved supporting homeless and vulnerable people including refugees, said: ‘I’ve supported hundreds of foreign residents over 20 years. Not once was my behaviour towards them ever taken into question.

‘It was stated in the tribunal that it didn’t make a difference to me what nationality someone was.’

Mr Markie said he believed management used his ‘boats’ comment as an excuse to fire him

    EXCLUSIVE
Pictured: Salvation Army worker sacked for saying refugees should all be sent back ‘on a boat’

Mr Markie was sacked in March 2024, despite working for the Salvation Army for nearly 20 years, after fellow staff were shocked by his comments about sending migrants home.

One colleague allegedly challenged him and asked if those he wanted deported included a user of the hostel who was a refugee from Syria.

The staff member claimed Mr Markie responded, ‘Yes, the lot of them’, but he has since vigorously denied saying this.

Mr Markie said: ‘How the conversation went was one of the managers approached myself and another staff member.

‘They said Dundee City Council were changing their policy on homelessness. Residents would no longer get three offers of housing, they would only get one and they’d have to take it.

‘I said that’s not fair as you can’t put somebody that depends on family support at the opposite end of the city. They weren’t even going to be near their GP, a lot of these people needed their support network to get off drugs.

‘Then it came up how Dundee City Council had just taken in 150 Syrian refugees and put them into local accommodation.

‘I asked, ‘Where are we putting them? We’ve not got houses for our own people’.

Mr Markie was sacked in March 2024, despite working for the Salvation Army for nearly 20 years, after fellow staff were shocked by his comments about sending migrants home

‘I was getting frustrated with the conversation and was passionately defending Dundee homelessness.

‘Somebody asked me what would I do with them then? I just said “send them back on boats”. I was asked if I thought it was a racist comment which I refused to admit.

‘I stand by what I said, I don’t think I said anything wrong. The comment they claimed I said, “Yeah the lot of them”, I never said that.’

He added: ‘I was really arguing for one guy that I was supporting at the time. His elderly parents lived in Fintry and needed support.

‘He was homeless and was going to get an offer on a property in Menzieshill six miles away so would need to get the bus.

‘He said he was unemployed and hardly getting any benefits so how could he get there every day, he didn’t have the means. They weren’t giving him the option of the local connection to that area.

‘That’s not fair, we’re trying to help these people not set them up to fail. But we’re still able to bring in 150 Syrian refugees, who I do feel sorry for. But they changed the rules just to accommodate the refugees.’

The tribunal was told Mr Markie was ‘aggressive and angry’ when he made his comments after being told of changes to the council housing policy.

Mr Markie claimed for unfair dismissal, direct sex discrimination and harassment but all three were dismissed at a tribunal held in Dundee

A colleague informed his line manager, Tracey Young, about it because she hoped ‘the claimant would be ‘pulled up’ as what he said was racist’.

After being warned by Miss Young about his behaviour, Mr Markie began complaining that the staff ‘couldn’t even joke or take part in banter’.

He added: ‘I was there for 20 years, I was never in trouble once and always kept to the rules and regulations. I’ve never been in any trouble in my life, no criminal convictions or anything like that.’

Mr Markie said he believed management had used his ‘boats’ comment as an excuse to fire him.

He said: ‘I got sacked for having an opinion and defending Scottish homelessness and Dundee residents.

‘In reality I think I got sacked for a different incident a couple of weeks before. I was having a conversation with two colleagues where I made some remarks about the current management team and how they were never there, we never got support yet they wanted to be involved in every decision. But if they were never there, how could they be?

‘They came in late, went home early and half the time were never on shift. I think I said ‘you lead by example’ but if I followed theirs, I’d be in my bed. I think this is why I was sacked, that I spoke up against their poor management skills.

‘Unbeknown to me one of the colleagues I was speaking to went straight to management and passed on what I said. Management took offence to this but never came to me directly about it.

‘But there was a team meeting, and it came up there where management ridiculed me for what I said. They used my boats comment to sack me, it’s as simple as that.’

Mr Markie claimed for unfair dismissal, direct sex discrimination and harassment. But all three claims were dismissed by Employment Judge James Hendry at a tribunal held in Dundee in September last year.

Publishing his ruling on December 31, Judge Hendry said: ‘The evidence showed that the claimant’s colleagues were shocked at the comment made, betraying, as they saw it, a complete insensitivity towards those that they were duty bound to help.’

Mr Markie said: ‘My solicitor was confident they’d find in my favour. I was sacked after 20 years of never being in trouble and saying one thing.

‘I would cover the night shift at a moment’s notice after doing a dayshift, I stood in and did the on-call shift when needed, there was no job I wouldn’t cover.

‘I still support the charity, they do great things and I would never want to put them down. It’s not the Salvation Army but the management team at Strathmore Lodge that was the problem.

‘When I made the statement, no one was upset. I worked with one of the staff that evening and not once did she say anything.

‘We had a relationship where she would’ve said something if it bothered her. We worked perfectly that night with no animosity or ill feeling.

‘My colleagues were all told at a staff meeting not to contact me. The management was obviously trying to tie everything together, it was a very toxic place in the end.

‘Due to the impact on my mental health I’ve been signed off long term. So now I’m unemployed. I spent the last of my life savings on the hearing hoping I’d win and get it back but obviously I lost.’

The tribunal was told how Mr Markie initially appeared at a Salvation Army disciplinary hearing after his migrant comments

He said: ‘I didn’t say the F word. I said send them all back on a boat. I didn’t swear. Later in the investigation I did swear and put hands up to that.

‘It was my point of view, wasn’t directed at anyone. We are letting too many people in when we don’t have facilities or housing to give them’, he said.

Asked how he would deal with an increase in refugees, Mr Markie told the hearing: ‘It wouldn’t bother me.’

He then told managers that he could ‘get carried away’, adding: ‘I do make stupid comments but don’t mean any harm.’

The tribunal heard that Salvation Army service manager Karen Good who chaired the disciplinary hearing that she believed his comment was racist and ‘undermined any trust she had in the claimant’s ability to carry on with his role, which involved helping refugees based on their needs’.

She concluded he had committed gross misconduct by expressing these views and that he should be summarily dismissed.

The tribunal was told Mr Markie emailed Miss Good, taking issue with the suggestion that he was aggressive, and claimed that everyone was ‘laughing’ during the conversation.

Mr Markie wrote to Miss Good: ‘Sack me, but don’t sack me for gross misconduct.’

VIEWERS FUME: ‘GROW UP!’ Backlash as Lorraine Kelly LAUGHS During Painful This Morning Confession Fans were left furious after Lorraine burst into laughter at a guest opening up about having the world’s smallest manhood — and the devastating impact it’s had on his life. Many say the moment crossed a line

This Morning fans raged ‘grow up!‘ as Lorraine Kelly burst into laughter at a guest with the world’s smallest manhood – who was on the ITV show to open up about the condition’s devastating impact on his life.

At the end of Wednesday’s episode of Lorraine, presenter Lorraine, 66, caught up with Cat Deeley, 49, and Ben Shephard, 51, in the This Morning studio to find out what viewers could expect for the next two and a half hours.

Cat told those watching at home: ‘We’re meeting the man with the world’s smallest penis.’

‘Yes, a little bit of everything for you today, Lorraine,’ Ben said.

Holding back the giggles, Lorraine replied: ‘Honestly, honestly…’

She then burst into laughter and continued: ‘Only on This Morning! Right, Graham Norton joins me tomorrow.

Michael Phillips, from North Carolina, took to the ITV studio to open up on being medically diagnosed with having a micropenis on Wednesday

‘I will see you at 9:30am, and we’ll all just decide who it is that has got the smallest winky.

    ‘Have a good day.’

Many rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their upset over Lorraine’s giggles.

‘Dear me #Lorraine, grow up. #ThisMorning.’

    ‘Why is she laughing?’

‘#lorraine was just as bad with her laughing.’

During the latest instalment of This Morning, Michael Phillips, from North Carolina, took to the ITV studio to open up on being medically diagnosed with having a micropenis.

He appeared on the programme to raise awareness to destigmatise the condition for other men who might have it.

Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their shock when Lorraine laughed at the segment

While the average UK penis size ranges from 3.5 to 5.8 inches, Michael, who visited a doctor due to his health concerns last year, measures up at 0.38 inches

    What is a micropenis?

According to Cleveland Clinic, a micropenis is: ‘An atypically small penis that’s discovered in infancy or very early childhood.

‘It’s usually the result of a fetal testosterone deficiency.

‘In some people, early hormonal treatment may help stimulate growth of the penis toward a more normal length.’

    How is it treated?

    Testosterone therapy
    Surgery

Not only that, but every time Michael needs to urinate, he has to find a bathroom stall as using a urinal is impossible due to his penis size.

Sitting down with hosts Cat and Ben, he said of when he first realised something was wrong: ‘I would say probably around high school.

‘I was dealing with girlfriends and stuff like that, but I was always under the belief that I was a late bloomer and maybe one day it would get to normal size, but it never did.’

He continued of the impact: ‘Keeping it to myself, I was younger in my teens and twenties, I tried to keep it to myself and I was always single, I had friends who probably wondered why I wasn’t dating.

‘I just didn’t want to go through that.’

Cat asked if he was ever bullied because of his condition, to which he said: ‘I kept it pretty secret. There was a few girlfriends in high school that knew about it, but it never got around.

‘I didn’t get picked on because nobody knew.’

Cat also wanted to know how he brings up the topic in relationships.

Michael said: ‘I’ve probably tried every way, you can be upfront right at the beginning, you can try to talk to somebody for a while and get a connection, then tell them.

‘Or sometimes you don’t say anything at all.’

He added: ‘Since I’ve started talking about it, you don’t get the perspective of women unless it’s brought out there.

‘There’s been a few stories, I’ve read comments and I’ve learned that there’s a huge population that don’t care about that sort of thing.’

Michael confessed that the only medical options he can have are lipsuction, or cutting a ligament.

‘It’s very expensive for the little bit that you get,’ he said.

Encouraging other men to seek help, he said: ‘It should be known that this is a medical condition, and if more people realised it was a condition when they are younger, they could be taken and seen by a doctor and get treatment.

‘It didn’t make me feel very good [that I couldn’t get help] because that was one of the main reasons I went to the doctor was to see if there was anything I could do to make it bigger, but what is available doesn’t really provide much.’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.

SHOCKING CLAIMS: Swiss Bɑr Mɑnɑger ‘FLED WITH CASH TILL’ ɑs Fire KiIIed 40 on New Yeɑr’s Eve

The manager of the Swiss bar where 40 people died in a fire while ringing in the New Year was allegedly filmed fleeing with a till full of cash as the blaze took hold.

Jessica Moretti, 40, is accused of ignoring revellers as flames consumed Le Constellation in the ski resort of Crans-Montana, and making off with the evening’s takings, Italy‘s La Repubblica news outlet claims.

She is already under investigation for manslaughter, as well as causing bodily harm to 119 others who suffered horrific burns as they celebrated in the Swiss Alps.

The bar manager, who is French, sustained a burn to one of her arms as the inferno tore through Le Constellation and France‘s Public newspaper questioned whether this had been ‘sustained while she was retrieving the cash register’.

Dozens of people tried desperately to escape the venue, and pleaded for first aid, at the time she disappeared.

The fire is believed to have been caused as staff waved champagne bottles plugged with sparklers close to the ceiling.

Investigators believe it then rapidly developed into a ‘flashover’ – likely igniting much of the venue in seconds and rendering escape almost impossible.

Her husband Jacques Moretti, 49, owned the bar. Both are suspects in the criminal enquiry into the fire, although neither has been arrested.

A photo appears to show the moment champagne sparklers set fire to material on the ceiling of the Swiss nightclub

Investigators are examining whether the soundproof material used on the ceiling of the bar conformed to safety measures.

Former staff have also claimed that safety standards at the club were poor, alleging that fire extinguishers were kept under lock and key and that the bar’s emergency exit was often locked.

Mr Moretti is believed to have not been at Le Constellation on the night of the fire, and instead left his wife in charge of the popular bar.

The Morettis, who were both born on the French Mediterranean island of Corsica, took over the venue in 2015 and own a home nearby, as well as one on the French Riviera.

They were questioned by Swiss prosecutors on Friday.

They have indicated that they will open an enquiry into ‘arson by negligence’ and ‘manslaughter by negligence’ if ‘criminal liability is established’.

Mr Moretti has claimed his bar ‘followed all safety regulations’, despite being inspected only ‘three times in ten years’ by health and safety officials.

On Tuesday, they said they were ‘devastated and overwhelmed with grief’ following the inferno and added they would ‘in no way seek to shirk their responsibilities’.

In a joint statement, they added: ‘Words cannot adequately describe the tragedy that unfolded that night at Le Constellation.’

They insisted they would ‘cooperate fully’ with the investigation.

The funerals of the six Italian teenagers killed in the blaze were being held on Wednesday.

Achille Barosi and Chiara Costanzo, both sixteen, were buried in Milan, while services for victims Giovanni Tamburi and Riccardo Minghetti were held in Bologna and Rome, respectively.

The family of Emanuele Galeppini, a 17-year-old golf prodigy from Genoa, asked for privacy and chose not to disclose the time and location of his funeral.

A service for Sofia Prosperi, an Italian and Swiss national, took place in her home town of Lugano.

Schools across Italy on Wednesday also held a minute’s silence to honour the victims.

Forty people hailing from seven different countries were killed: 26 of those were aged between 14 and 18. Some were burnt beyond recognition and were only identified through the use of DNA analysis.

Among the dead were 10 Swiss males aged 16 to 31; 11 Swiss females aged 14 to 24; one 24-year-old woman who held dual Swiss-French nationality; three 16-year-old Italian boys and two Italian girls aged 15 and 16, and five French males aged 14 to 39.

Two French women aged 33 and 26; a 15-year-old girl with triple British-French-Israeli nationality; a 16-year-old boy who held dual Italian-UAE nationality; an 18-year-old Romanian boy; a Belgian 17-year-old girl; a Portuguese 22-year-old woman and an 18-year-old Turkish boy were also identified.

Another 116 were injured, some of them still fighting for their lives.

Speaking at a press conference five days after the tragedy, Crans-Montana Mayor Nicolas Feraud said that no periodic safety inspections had been carried out since 2019 at Le Constellation.

He said: ‘We are profoundly sorry. We did not have an indication that the checks had not been done.

‘We regret that – we owe it to the families and we will accept the responsibility.’

The mayor also confirmed he would not be resigning, telling reporters that he and his officials were elected by the people of Crans-Montana and that they have to be there to help residents.

Mr Feraud said that the soundproof foam used in the bar was considered acceptable at the time.

All sparkler candles have now been banned inside venues, the mayor added.

The local council are looking at why this happened, which will include a full audit of all venues in the area and ensure more checks are carried out, Mr Feraud said.

He added that it is ‘down to the judges’ to determine who is responsible.

In a statement issued at the press conference, the Municipality of Crans-Montana said it had gone through all the documents in the file submitted to the Wallis canton public prosecutor’s office following the fire.

It said the documents detail ‘administrative procedures relating to the establishment’s compliance’.

THE SADDEST FAREWELL: Families Begin Burying Victims of Swiss Bar Inferno Grief grips Europe as heartbroken families lay loved ones to rest. Thousands gathered in silence for the funerals of the Italian teenagers — a scene that left mourners in tears

Devastated families have started burying their loved ones who were killed in a bar fire while ringing in the New Year in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana.

The funerals of the six Italian teenagers who were among the 40 killed in the New Year’s Eve blaze were being held on Wednesday.

Achille Barosi and Chiara Costanzo, both sixteen, were buried in Milan, while services for victims Giovanni Tamburi and Riccardo Minghetti were held in Bologna and Rome respectively.

The family of Emanuele Galeppini,  a 17-year-old golf prodigy from Genoa, asked for privacy and chose not to disclose the time and location of his funeral.

A service for Sofia Prosperi, an Italian and Swiss national, took place in her home town of Lugano.

Schools across Italy on Wednesday also held a minute’s silence to honor the victims.

Italy’s education minister Giuseppe Valditara observed it with students at Milan’s Orsoline Di San Carlo school, which Achille attended.

The six teenagers were partying at the ‘Le Constellation’ bar in the Alpine resort when a fire – believed to have been caused as wait staff waved champagne bottles plugged with sparkles close to the ceiling – tore through the venue in the early hours of New Years Day.

Investigators believe it then rapidly developed into a ‘flashover’ – likely igniting much of the venue in seconds and rendering escape almost impossible

Forty people hailing from seven different countries were killed: 26 of those were aged between 14 and 18. Some were burnt beyond recognition, and were only identified through the use of DNA analysis.

Achille, 16, reportedly went back to Le Constellation at 1.30am on New Year’s Day after leaving without his phone and jacket.

Moments later, the fire took hold – and the teenager from Milan was later confirmed to be among the dead.

His aunt had described him to the media as an avid painter, and had been attending an art school in the Italian style capital.

His cousin, Edoardo Sparacino, told Italian news agency ANSA: ‘I spoke to Achille’s friends who were there and they told me that my cousin had returned to the club for a moment when the explosion occurred.’

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, lived with his mother in Italy but had gone to Switzerland to holiday with his father

Sixteen-year-old Chiara Costanzo from Milan went to Le Constellation with friends ‘by chance’ for New Year when tragedy struck.

Her father, Andrea Costanzo, confirmed to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that his daughter was among those killed.

‘I just received the phone call that should never come to a father. A dull, unspeakable pain: my beloved Chiara is no longer with us,’ he told the daily.

He had hoped that his daughter would be among those missing, her identity yet to ne confirmed, before his worst fears were realised.

Andrea described his daughter as ‘the most extraordinary to ever walk the earth’.

‘The pain now is greater than the thirst for justice. I don’t even know if it will ever come. Now I just feel a great emptiness’, he added.

Sofia Propseri, 15, grew up in Castel San Pietro in the Swiss canton of Ticino, and had been attending the top International School of Como in Italy at the time of her death.

Italian media reported that the Italo-Swiss national had joined a group of friends to return to Switzerland to see in the New Year when tragedy struck.

Emanuele Galeppini was a talented young golfer who had been rising through the ranks with wins and podium places at junior events across the world

Authorities added her to the list of missing people after friends went through images and videos of the party, recognising her among those who had not left the club.

Friends took to TikTok to pay tribute, one reported to have written: ‘All this makes no sense. We were supposed to keep growing together.’

Matteo Prosperi, the mayor of Castel San Pietro, told Swiss publication La Regione: ‘We are close to the family and share their grief.’

Rome native Riccardo Minghetti, 16, was reported by local media to have gone to Le Constellation with his sister Matilde – but she was outside when the fire started.

The pair had gone to Crans-Montana as their mother owns there. He was a member of EUR Sporting Club.

Matilde suffered minor injuries to her hands as she tried to push through the crowds looking for her brother; his parents Massimo and Carla were then told on Sunday morning that he did not make it out alive.

Giuseppa Tomao, headmistress of the Stanislao Cannizzaro scientific high school in the Italian capital’s EUR district, which both siblings attended, said Matilde suffered burns to her hands as she helped rescuers dig through the wreckage.

Riccardo’s friend Manfredi Marcucci, who also went to the club, survived with 40 per cent burns to his body, according to reports. The pair had been to the venue before.

La Repubblica reported that Riccardo was remembered as having ‘a quick wit’ and a passion for tennis, swimming and skiing. His funeral is expected to be held on Wednesday.

Ms Tomao added: ‘Riccardo will forever be a part of our school: his smile, his kindness, and his sensitivity will live on in each of our memories.’

Promising golfer Emanuele Galeppini, 17, was confirmed among the dead by the Italian Golf Federation in a post on social media.

The youngster, who lived in Dubai and attended its Swiss International School, was remembered by the professional association as ‘a young athlete who embodied passion and authentic values’.

It added: ‘Emanuele, you will remain in our hearts forever.’

Galeppini, from Genoa, had been ranked 3,408th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking at the time of his death but had been ranked as high as 2,440th in the past having notched up wins and podiums in junior golfing competitions.

Another 116 were injured, some of them still fighting for their lives.

Le Constellation’s French owners Jacques and Jessica Moretti are under investigation, suspected of manslaughter, bodily harm and causing a fire, all by way of negligence.

Investigators are examining whether the soundproof material used on the ceiling of the bar conformed to safety measures.

Former staff have also claimed that safety standards at the club were poor, alleging that fire extinguishers were kept under lock and key and that the bar’s emergency exit was often locked.

SHOCK ON LIVE TV: Match Of The Day Host Gabby Logan Leaves Mid-Show Gabby Logan was forced to step away due to a sudden family emergency — and moments later, Mark Chapman rushed in straight from his radio show to take over

Gabby Logan was forced to leave Match Of The Day early on Wednesday night due to having a family emergency.

The TV presenter, 52, was replaced mid-show by Mark Chapman, who dashed over from his radio programme to take her place as the show’s anchor.

He had also been at the BBC studios, presenting on Radio 5 Live at the time, when he was called over last-minute to replace Gabby, 20 minutes into the episode.

Seamlessly taking up the hosting reins, Mark told viewers: ‘So we’ll talk about that game in a moment. Sadly Gabby has got a family emergency that she’s had to rush off and deal with.

‘So she’s gone to do that and I’ve come from the radio to finish the show.’

It is not yet clear what Gabby had to deal with off air. Daily Mail have contacted her representatives for comment.

Match Of The Day viewers have since rushed to social media to wish Gabby well and commend Mark on his ability to take over at a moment’s notice.

    They said: ‘Hope Gabby Logan’s family emergency is ok. Chappers is such a talent how many people could jump off radio and straight onto MOTD’;

    ‘Thoughts with Gabby Logan with whatever’s happened there. Mark Chapman out of breath running from the radio to take over is crazy. Peak professionalism’;

    ‘Hope Gabby Logan is OK, rare presenter substitution on Match Of The Day tonight, Mark Chapman has taken over’;

    ‘What’s gaan on with Gabby Logan!? Hopefully nothing too bad’;

‘Hope all is OK with Gabby Logan and her family. Mark Chapman taking over at such short notice just highlights his professionalism. One of the very best.’

Match Of The Day viewers have since rushed to social media to wish Gabby well and commend Mark on his ability to take over at a moment’s notice

Gabby opened the show before setting up the first highlights package, which was Bournemouth vs Tottenham.

She was joined by Danny Murphy and Stephen Warnock for the opening as they watched and then discussed Tottenham’s 3-2 loss at Bournemouth.

She referenced the tragic passing of Martin Chivers while presenting the highlights of the latest Premier League action.

After analysing Spurs’ defeat, Gabby then previewed highlights of Man City’s 1-1 draw with Brighton by saying: ‘Let’s move on. Back-to-back draws had left Manchester City six points behind Arsenal, who play Liverpool tomorrow.

‘Opponents Brighton have never won at the Etihad. Your commentator is Mark Scott…’

However, by the end of the highlights Gabby had unexpectedly left her post, with the camera returning to the studio to reveal Mark in her place.

Gabby previously broke down in tears as she recalled some of the ‘really invasive’ treatments her husband had to have, including six stab wounds in his torso

The couple have spoken publicly about having a difficult time in recent years, after Kenny was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022.

He was inspired to go for a general check up after hearing guests on Gabby’s podcast discuss having their hormones tested, and was shown to have a high level of PSA – prostate-specific antigen.

Gabby and Kenny have said that the sportsman was ‘extremely lucky’ they caught it early, which afforded him options regarding treatment.

After undergoing a successful operation to remove his prostate, he received the all-clear in 2023, but has been candid about the after-effects, explaining how treatment left him ‘black and blue downstairs’ and struggling with erectile dysfunction.

Gabby previously broke down in tears as she recalled some of the ‘really invasive’ treatments her husband had to have, including six stab wounds in his torso.

‘It’s horrible to see him in the pain he was afterwards, it’s a horrible thing to go through but he’s doing really really well now,’ she said during an appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast in 2022.

She added: ‘He’s just great, I’m very lucky. He’s a great man and I couldn’t ever wish for anybody to have shared my life with, who is better.’

Gabby has previously suffered great tragedy in her family, after the tragic death of her younger brother Daniel, when he was just 15 years old.

The aspiring footballer suddenly collapsed and died in 1992 after playing football in the garden with their father, former Leeds United star Terry Yorath.

Daniel – who was four years younger than Gabby – was later revealed to have died as a result of an undiagnosed heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – where the heart becomes thickened without an obvious cause.

Gabby has spoken about how the loss of her brother affected her, previously revealing how it caused her to worry for her son Reuben’s life in the lead-up to his 16th birthday, because ‘I did have a fear I was going to repeat history.’

She added: ‘Even a few years afterwards I could find myself sobbing. When I started working in football I used to be obsessed with dates of players’ births because they would be Daniel’s age. And I knew he might be playing in that match.

‘You wonder, “What kind of player would he have been?” I wonder if he’d have had a girlfriend by now, or met somebody he wanted to marry, or now I wonder if he’d have children.’

ITV’S BIGGEST REGRET? CHRISTINE LAMPARD POISED FOR ULTIMATE “REVENGE” MOVE AFTER BEING AXED!

Christine Lampard has reportedly become a ‘firm frontrunner to host Strictly Come Dancing’ after leaving ITV’s Lorraine.

The presenter, 46, now has much more time on her hands following her final stint hosting the daytime TV show after being axed amid the channel’s brutal cuts.

Thanks to Christine’s ‘huge fanbase and skill set’ BBC bosses are said to be eyeing her up to front the dance competition.

Tess and Claudia announced they would be stepping down from their roles on the show in a statement released in October, with speculation about their replacements being rife ever since.

A TV said of Christine: ‘She has a huge fanbase from her years fronting breakfast TV and is a pro at handling live TV, which is no mean feat.

‘Producers love the idea of casting a presenter who has previously taken part in the show as a contestant, as it has worked really well in the past on spin-off show It Takes Two.’

They added to The Sun: ‘Now she has more free time she has become a firm frontrunner and a name on everyone’s lips.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Christine’s representative for comment.

Christine and Ranvir Singh, 48, were revealed to no longer be needed to stand in for main presenter Lorraine Kelly, 65, earlier this year due to her show facing the majority of cost cutting measures.

Good Morning Britain will now taking the 9-10am slot for 22 weeks of the year, leaving Lorraine to host all five days of the remaining 30 weeks.

Taking to Instagram Christine, who has guest presented the series since 2017, shared a heartfelt tribute to the crew who she branded ‘family’, before treated to a leaving party.

She posed for beaming selfies alongside Andi Peters, who hosts ITVs competitions, and the show’s fashion expert Jo Elvin ahead of being presented with gifts, Champagne and a huge bouquet.

Christine captioned the sweet reel: ‘After many years of being part of the @lorraine family it is now coming to an end. We’ve laughed, lunched and learnt so much from one another’.

Colleagues who have become the best of friends. As many of the team enter a new world in 2026, I want to thank every single person. I love you all! It has been the best of times’.

It comes after Lorraine said she hoped audiences will ‘stay with her’ after ITV‘s decision to brutally slash and overhaul her show.

The iconic TV host, who previously branded the changes as ‘heartbreaking‘ but still refused to quit, said she ‘never takes her viewers for granted’ and hope they will weather the storm with her.

‘Hopefully the audience will still stay with us, because that’s the most important thing to me, is you know, that the audience are still enjoying what I do and the fact that people are so kind and they still watch after all these years,’.

She went on to reveal how her decades on TV has resulted in fans considering her a friend: ‘It’s something that I never, ever take for granted and I never take any, any of this for granted. I really don’t, because it’s, it’s an honour’.

“She’s Made It to 2026”: Katie Price Leaves Fans Choked Up With Her Heartfelt Admission About Her Mum’s Failing Health: Amy Has Been Battling Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis — a terminal, incurable lung disease — for many years

Katie Price has shared a deeply emotional update on her mum Amy’s health, offering fans a rare and honest glimpse into the painful reality of watching a parent grow frailer with time.

In a recent YouTube video marking the start of 2026, Katie spoke openly about the mix of gratitude and fear she feels as her family continues to navigate Amy’s long battle with a terminal lung condition. With emotion in her voice, she said her mum had “made it to 2026”, adding that she felt incredibly thankful for another year together and hopeful they might still have more time ahead.

For many fans, the video revealed a softer, more vulnerable side of Katie, one rooted in fierce loyalty and devotion to family. She did not shy away from acknowledging how much Amy’s health has changed, admitting that her mum is “a lot more frail than she used to be”. Yet she was quick to reassure viewers that Amy’s sharp mind remains intact, saying her physical struggles do not reflect who she truly is.

Amy has spent years battling idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive and incurable lung disease that causes severe scarring and makes even basic movement exhausting. Katie has long been open about the emotional toll of the illness, sharing both moments of hope and heartbreak with her followers.

Despite the challenges, Katie said her mum now has a “new lease of life”. She revealed she had bought Amy a mobility scooter to help her regain some independence and spoke warmly about plans to take her on trips, including a long-hoped-for visit to the Isle of Wight.

Family remains at the centre of Katie’s world, and she made it clear that creating memories together is now her priority. She spoke of wanting more shared moments with Amy, her son Harvey, and the rest of her family, stressing how precious togetherness becomes when time feels uncertain.

Last year, Katie also revealed that Amy struggled to walk following a lung transplant, explaining how frustrating it has been for her mum to remain mentally alert while her body continues to fail her. In a candid podcast moment, Katie described how Amy often jokes about whether to take her walker or wheelchair on outings, highlighting the bittersweet humour they use to cope with daily reality.

Through it all, Katie’s message was clear: while Amy’s body may be weaker, her spirit remains unbroken — and every extra day together is something to treasure.
