David Beckham feels brunt of Inter Miami play-off defeat as MLS side troll ex-England captain

    David Beckham

Atlanta United had a field day on social media after they booted David Beckham’s Inter Miami out of the playoffs, causing quite the stir on Saturday night. Lionel Messi and his teammates at Miami were left in dismay as their MLS campaign was halted by an unexpected defeat to Atlanta.

Despite finishing the regular season as Eastern Conference leaders with a record-breaking points haul to clinch the Supporters Shield, their dreams were dashed abruptly. Atlanta, who scraped into the quarter-finals via a penalty shootout win over Montreal after ending 9th in the conference, overturned a first-leg deficit against Miami.

The initial match saw Miami take the lead with goals from ex-Barcelona aces Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba, seemingly setting them on a path to the semi-finals. But Atlanta snapped Miami’s 10-game unbeaten streak last Saturday, with Xande Silva netting a dramatic late goal to secure a 2-1 comeback victory.

Then, in a nail-biting decider, Atlanta pulled off another shocker by triumphing 3-2 on Miami’s turf. Reveling in the upset, Atlanta’s digital team took to platform X to mock the glitzy Miami squad.

They cheekily edited a snippet from Beckham’s documentary, where he interrupts Victoria discussing her childhood, to reflect Miami’s downfall. The revised clip featured her words altered to echo Miami’s crushed hopes, starting with the boastful claim: “We’re the best in the MLS”.

In Beckham’s response, Atlanta cheekily asked “Be honest”. In response to which, Victoria Beckham said: “I am being honest,” before David gently teased her with: “What team has beat you multiple times? ” A tweaked image of Victoria then shows her seemingly replying with a sulky face: “Atlanta United”.

Matias Rojas opened the scoring for Miami at the 17-minute mark but was quickly overtaken by Atlanta with a double-whammy from Jamal Thiare before the break, despite Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez’s efforts being quashed by Brad Guzan’s top-notch goalkeeping.

A header from Suarez also tested him, until Messi ultimately headed in an equaliser. The match hit a fever pitch when Guzan wound up in the back of the net while trying to get the game going again post-goal, leading to Suarez teasing the fuming goalie.

Then, amidst a storm of controversy and Miami’s distractions over an injured player, Atlanta nabbed their winner thanks to Bartosz Silsz capitalising on the disordered Miami defence and Pedro Amador’s assist.

Atlanta managed to withstand the late onslaught, with a goal-line clearance and Guzan denying Suarez in the final moments of the match. Miami are now preparing for this summer’s Club World Cup, following a contentious decision by FIFA.

The governing body decided that winning the Supporters Shield was sufficient reason for Messi’s team to participate in the tournament.

A RARE GEM Princess Diana engagement ring and jewellery: What happened to her collection?

PRINCESS Diana was a royal fashion icon who often wore spectacular jewellery.

Following her tragic death in a car crash in Paris in 1997, some of these pieces were set aside for her daughters-in-law — but what happened to the rest?

    Who inherited Princess Diana’s jewellery?

After her death, Diana’s sons Prince William and Prince Harry were left three-quarters of her £21 million estate — with the other quarter going to her 17 godchildren.

In a special “letter of wishes”, Diana explained that she was leaving her jewellery to her sons’ future wives.

The letter reads: “I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it.

“I leave the exact division of the jewellery to your discretion.”

But some of her gems were on loan from the royal collection, while others were not included in her estate.

What happened to the key pieces in Princess Diana’s jewellery collection?

    The Spencer Tiara

One of Diana’s most memorable pieces was the tiara she wore on her wedding day in 1981.

The Spencer tiara had been in the princess’ family for almost a century and belongs to the Earl, who is currently Diana’s brother Charles.

It is still heavily associated with Diana and has not been worn since her death.

It is thought Prince Harry gifted Diana’s Asprey ring – featuring a large aquamarine gem – to his wife Meghan Markle .

She was spotted wearing it on their wedding day, when she re-emerged after changing into her evening outfit.

Originally Diana’s, the late princess was pictured wearing it during a trip to Sydney in 1996.

And she was also spotted wearing it at a private viewing of the Christie’s auction of her dresses in 1997.

The ring comes with a matching bracelet, featuring a larger emerald-cut aquamarine nestled between six rows of pearls.

The late Princess wore the entire set on her trip to Australia, so we may see Meghan wearing the bracelet at some point in the future too.

    Sapphire Brooch

Diana’s sapphire brooch was a wedding gift from the Queen Mother.

She originally wore it as a brooch, but soon opted to put her own spin on it, fashioning it into a many stringed pearl necklace.

Diana continued to wear the necklace after her divorce and it was passed onto her sons following her tragic death.

Harry has since used the gem to make a custom engagement ring for his beau Meghan, which includes a stone from Botswana — where she and Harry holidayed in 2016.

And we’ve even seen Meghan blinging up the ring to tweak the design over the years.

Less than two years after Harry proposed, the ring underwent a dramatic transformation.

The stunning sparkler originally had a thick gold band which beautifully offset the row of three diamonds.

However, Meghan appeared to have reset her ring with a much thinner, diamond-studded micro-pavé gold band.

Diana’s most iconic jewel was her 12-carat sapphire engagement ring.

The sapphire is surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, and set in 18-carat white gold.

According to Vogue, it is based on a brooch that Prince Albert asked the jeweller Garrard to create for his future wife Queen Victoria in 1840.

At some point this brooch belonged to the late Queen — and it inspired then Prince Charles when choosing an engagement ring for Diana in 1981.

In a nod to his beloved mum, William used the same ring to propose to Kate in 2010.

The diamond and pearl necklace was part of a set which was not yet completed, meaning Diana never got to see the finished product.

The necklace produced by Garrard — the Crown Jeweller at the time — contains 178 diamonds and five pearls.

After Diana’s death the set was sold at auction. It was relisted for and eye-watering 9.6million.

Also known as the Queen Mary Lover’s Knot Tiara, the late Queen loaned this piece to Diana as a wedding gift.

Despite opting not to wear it on her wedding day, Diana was a big fan of this tiara, which went back into the Queen’s collection after her death.

Princess Kate first wore the tiara in 2016.

With a US pressure group lobbying for Prince Harry’s US visa to be revoked, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be in for a difficult time under new President Donald Trump

The surprise re-election of Donald Trump is sending shockwaves through America’s liberal society, but two California residents that may be feeling the pain of Kamala Harris’s loss most keenly are Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.

Royal expert Jennie Bond, who was the BBC’s royal correspondent for well over a decade, has shared her opinions on what she believes could be a “squeaky bum time” for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

She points out that that Trump is the kind of man that carries a grudge, and he took great offence when Meghan called him “divisive and misogynistic”.

Jennie adds that, even though they have stepped back from official royal duties, Harry and Meghan are still bound by the protocol that forbids royals from commenting directly on political matters.

    Donald Trump

There’s little love lost between Meghan and Trump (Image: Getty)

With some of her comments about Trump, Meghan has come close to crossing that line and, Jennie stresses, “Any disparaging remarks or political interventions by either of them risk embarrassing the King.”

Jennie, writing in the i newspaper, adds that Harry will be anxious about moves to revoke his US visa: “A conservative American think-tank called The Heritage Foundation has been trying to force the publication of Harry’s visa documents.

“It argues that his admission in his book Spare that he has used a variety of drugs should bar him from living and working in America.”

The only positive for Harry, is that Trump is not that well-disposed towards the Heritage Foundation, as they are also investigating his own family background by forcing the release of immigration records of his wife’s late mother.

As a result, the President may not be particularly motivated to listen to their pleas at this time.

Prior to Trump’s electoral victory in 2016, Meghan announced that she would consider emigrating to Canada if Hillary Clinton lost out to him. She didn’t make good on her threat.

But now, as Jennie points out, the Sussexes have reportedly secured themselves a second home in Portugal, which might just come in handy if the worst should happen and they are forced out of the US.

Prince Harry and Meghan brace for ‘sleepless nights’ as ‘bad judgements catching up’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were criticised by a royal commentator who called them out on their “bad judgements”.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have been having “sleepless nights in Montecito” after Donald Trump’s victory at the US election last week, as a series of “bad judgements” have been “catching with them”, according to a royal commentator.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not made any comment following Mr Trump’s election win. However, Harry’s visa arrangements have come back into the spotlight following a row that sparked earlier this year after a think tank requested his immigration records be made public due to his revelations about past drug use in his memoir Spare.

US-based journalist Lee Cohen was critical of the couple and said that while Mr Trump may not prioritise Harry’s visa records, his election should “give cause for anxiety” to the Montecito couple.

He told GB News: “It seems like divine justice or karma that the fortunes of the Sussex bosses have taken such a turn.

“Over the past year, bad behaviour and bad judgements have been catching up with them.

“Now, with Donald Trump’s historic landslide last week, I imagine there have been some sleepless nights in Montecito.

“Whether it’s Portugal, Canada, Montecito or Frogmore, wherever the Sussexes drop anchor, they seem to wear out their welcome.

“I don’t know if this [Harry’s visa] will be Donald Trump’s first priority, but it certainly should give cause for some anxiety in Montecito.”

Earlier this year, the US President-elect hinted he could intervene regarding Prince Harry’s visa “if he lied” about taking drugs in the past.

DI’S SECRET Diana’s ‘highly intimate’ love letters to James Hewitt touted for sale for £780k raising fears they could be made public

Diana items have a history of selling for monster sums

LOVE letters from the late Princess of Wales to Major James Hewitt are being touted for sale to cash in on the increasing interest in Diana memorabilia.

And the surging value of all-things Di means a deal for the notes is now “imminent”, The Sun on Sunday can reveal.

Last week, we told how a US auction house has lined up a wealthy collector to buy the 64 love letters with a price tag of up to $1million (£780,000) — raising fears they could be made public.

Hewitt, 65, previously offered them as collateral for a £500,000 loan.

A source last night said: “It’s all moving in the right direction and a sale seems to be imminent.”

London auction house Bonhams valued Hewitt’s notes — which include many sent on distinctive military paper known as “Blueys” — at between £311,000 and £466,000.

In an email, the firm noted recent sales of other items “demonstrate the growing commercial appeal for anything connected to Diana”.

Sources believe they could fetch huge sums after a jumper featuring sheep that once belonged to her fetched around £920,000 last year, despite a valuation of up to £70,000.

Diana items always sell for huge sums.

In 2019, her Fly Virgin Atlantic jumper sold for £42,760.

A silver 1.6-litre Ford Escort Ghia saloon given to her by Charles — then the Prince of Wales — as an engagement present in 1981 sold 40 years later for £47,000.

And in December, a black velvet dress worn by Diana in 1985 sold for £904,000 at Julien’s Auctions in Hollywood — 11 times its estimate.

‘William didn’t want anything to do with Harry’ at Diana awards says The Sun’s Royal Photographer
Phil Dampier, author of Diana: I’m Going To Be Me, said: “Like classic cars, royal memorabilia go up and down in value, so these things go in a cycle.

“At the moment there is an obsession in Diana as a whole new generation of people are taking interest in her, partly because of watching The Crown and partly because of the royal soap opera involving her sons William and Harry.”

Critics also think present uncertainty in the Royal Family has led to renewed interest in the letters.

64 love letters have a price tag of up to $1million
    5

64 love letters have a price tag of up to $1million
However, Bonhams declined to sell the letters and instead advised seeking a buyer in the US, which was when Dallas-based auctioneer Heritage was contacted.

Heritage has said it had no intention of offering the letters for sale.
But an email sent in late January by a boss at the firm said it had decided “the best way to proceed was to work with a likely potential buyer they already have in mind for a private sale”.

US collectibles appraiser Lori Verderame said selling the notes privately will avoid copyright issues — and royal backlash — if they were to be reproduced in sales material.

Our story sent shockwaves through the auction world with speculation on the identity of the private buyer.

Ukrainian-American billionaire Mark Ginzburg, 67, has been linked as a frontrunner to buy the letters.

In 2010, he bought Diana’s diamond and pearl necklace for almost £500,000.

He is now selling it to a museum for up to £12million and will donate a portion of the funds to his native Ukraine.

Texan entrepreneur and memorabilia collector Jim McIngvale, 73, has also been linked to the notes.

    Distinctive script

They were written between 1989 and 1991, including the period when Hewitt, who had a secret five-year affair with the Princess until 1992, was serving in the Gulf War.

They are in Diana’s distinctive script, are highly intimate and would cause embarrassment to the Royal Family if released.

Last week, Hewitt’s spokesman said Heritage were approached “solely to value and authenticate the letters for personal reasons and insurance purposes”.

They added: “James has no intention to sell and is not soliciting offers to buy.”

Yesterday, Heritage added that it “has no intention of offering these letters publicly or privately”.

The name “Diana” sits over an image of a mangled car, with the words: “She did not choose her death…in 2024, we should have the choice.”

It has sparked an outpouring of fury amid a debate in France over assisted dying.

Ex-royal spokesman Dickie Arbiter said: “This is absolutely obscene and outrageous. This is a gross politicisation of a tragedy.

“Anyone who knew Diana, Princess of Wales will be deeply upset. To mock something so graphic up of that awful moment is grotesque.”

The image was posted on Thursday on X, formerly Twitter, and has been taken down.

ADMD also planned to depict the death of Joan of Arc with a burning stake, as well as pop star Claude François who was electrocuted in a bath as he changed a bulb.

The group later apologised for the choice of images.

  • Expert explains whether Victoria Beckham’s ruthless diet is actually healthy

Expert explains whether Victoria Beckham’s ruthless diet is actually healthy

Victoria Beckham is a woman who has it all. Aside from a successful marriage to football icon David Beckham and raising four children, she was also in one of the most coveted girl bands in history and now runs a successful fashion line. The former Spice Girl, 50, is clearly a hard worker, and this too extends to her ruthless diet and exercise regime, but is her fitness example one to follow?

The mum-of-four recently shared a photo of her toneD physique in her home gym, wearing sweatbands and with her hair slicked back, clearly meaning business. Victoria certainly does not mess about in the gym.

Back in 2014, Victoria told the Guardian that she starts the day with a 7k run on the treadmill at 5:30 a.m. before a gruelling hour-long session with a personal trainer. “Thirty minutes legs, 30 minutes arms, toning and conditioning, then loads of planks and that kind of thing for my core,” she revealed. I work out every day when I’m at home. It’s part of who I am now, and I really enjoy it.”

Clinical Nutritionist Suzie Sawyer tells the Mirror that while it is healthy to work out if Victoria does particularly strenuous exercises, she should factor in rest days. “If she does a really heavy training day where she’s using very heavy weights, or she does a very intensive cardio session, then it may be better that she has a rest day after that because the body repairs and recovers which is as important,” explains Suzie.

Victoria Beckham shared a snap of herself working out in the gym on Sunday

    Image:

In an interview with the Telegraph in 2019, it was revealed that Victoria “now eats three or four avocados a day” because it is the key to glowing skin. Additionally, her husband David admitted that her dinner choices are fairly consistent. “Since I met her she only eats grilled fish [and] steamed vegetables. She will very rarely deviate from that,” he said. While grilled fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids, and avocados are also a good source of fat and nutrients, Suzie says that eating the same foods isn’t the most healthy route for nourishing your body: “It’s about having a wide variety of foods in the diet. So the body needs 45 different nutrients in a day, including water. So if you’re only having a mono diet, then you’re probably going to struggle to get all those nutrients,” she said.

Victoria Beckham is 50. I don’t know her personal circumstances but she’s coming into the average age for menopause, which is 51. That is when women tend to notice that they have a nutritional deficiency. Its when it can really rear its ugly head and manifests itself in some very strange ways. Particularly where you’re trying to balance hormones, nutrient deficiencies can really disrupt things – that may happen or not,” explains Suzie. In an interview with Net A Porter magazine the designer said that she “takes a lot of supplements” so hopefully has this in check.

“I eat lots of fresh fish, fresh vegetables and salads, as well as seeds and nuts. I also love fruit but don’t eat too much, as it can make me feel quite bloated,” Victoria, whose diet lacks dairy, added to Net A Porter. “I am disciplined with my eating – that’s how I find I get the most out of my body. ” Victoria also doesn’t eat many refined carbs, with an insider telling Heat Magazine it was “practically a banned word for her.” Suzie says that although she doesn’t want to hazard a guess at how much Victoria is eating, and that some of the vegetables might be high in carbohydrate, “You can’t miss out completely on one, macro nutrients.”

Victoria has been known to have green smoothie for breakfast, and while this is healthy Suzie explains protein is important in a morning meal. Suzie say, “She would need to have some form of protein, ideally, with that. When you’re ‘breaking the fast’ you need to have some form of routine because it about balancing blood sugar levels.”

“Her diet is very low in calories,” says Suzie, but what works for the mega-rich Victoria may be unhealthy for others. ” I’d guess she’s very much on top of her nutrient levels she’ll be having loads of blood work done to check her nutrient levels.” She adds, “It’s a shame because food brings people together. It’s not just about fuelling us, it’s about enjoying it as well. And, and it’s a shame because it sounds like food just becomes a necessity to her rather than something that she still enjoys.”

‘Wild’ Liam Payne was seen arguing with mystery woman about money in hotel lobby just hours before falling to his death from balcony

Liam Payne was seen arguing with a woman about money in the lobby of his hotel just hours before he died falling from a balcony in Buenos Aires, a fellow guest has claimed.

The 31-year-old former One Direction singer plunged 45ft from the third floor into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Argentinian capital on Wednesday, sparking a wave of grief around the world.

In the wake of the tragedy, hotel guests shared their chilling recollections of the moments before his death, including hearing ‘violent noises’ and a ‘scream’.

Michael Fleischmann, from the United States, was also staying in the luxury hotel and claims just three hours before Payne’s death the singer seemed ‘a little wild’ as he argued with an unnamed woman about money.

Another guest, who spoke exclusively to MailOnline. claims Payne had made a shocking admission just minutes before he plunged to his death claiming: ‘I used to be in a boy band – that’s why I’m so f**ked up’.

Mr Fleischmann claimed the former boy band star kept repeating to the woman: ‘I’ll give you $20,000 dollars just because I can. I have $55 million and I like to help people.’

During the ‘very tense situation’ the woman is said to have spoken in Spanish with the hotel manager translating the conversation to Payne at around 2pm local time.

Mr Fleischmann told the Buenos Aires Herald that he only recognised that the man ‘with an English accent who seemed to be causing a disturbance’ in the lobby was Payne until after news of his death broke.

He added that the singer had ‘seemed very upset, agitated, a little wild, walking around and pacing’ and ‘seemed very energized’.

Mr Fleischmann’s mother Toni added: ‘It just looked like she was extremely uncomfortable with him, and a little apprehensive.

‘It was just my son, me, Liam Payne, the woman and the staff. The manager was trying to politely intervene or calm him down. There was a feeling of anxiety in the area.’

The mother and son ended up getting in the same lift as Payne. They later left the hotel and the woman seen arguing with the star was outside the building on the phone.

Payne was found dead by police who say they found the popstar’s medicines including clonazepam – a drug which is used to control epilepsy, involuntary muscle spasms and panic disorders.

Photos inside the luxury suite, published by Argentinian magazine Clarin, appeared to confirm the troubling report about Payne’s mental state.

On a table, the surface was covered with tin foil, white powder, a lighter and scorch marks on the wooden surface.

A blackened aluminium drinks can lid appeared to have been heated and a smashed TV screen on a shelf bore the signs of a heavy impact whilst a half-empty Champagne flute was nearby.

The other guest named Rebecca was one of the last people to speak to the popstar and claimed that Payne:

    Showed ‘disturbing and weird behaviour’ as he smashed his laptop on the floor;
Grabbed a young woman and pretended to choke her in the hotel lift; and
Was accompanied by an ‘entourage’ of two women and a British man.

Rebecca, not her real name, a 28-year-old IT consultant from Washington DC, took these haunting photographs of Payne in the lobby shortly before his death.

She said his bizarre behaviour and its horrific aftermath had left her ‘shaken’. As tributes continued to pour in for Payne, including from his former bandmates:

Rebecca’s surprise 30-minute long encounter with Payne took place in the foyer of the hotel, where she was staying for a wedding. Payne had been due to check out on Wednesday morning, but still had not done so by late afternoon, she claimed.

Rebecca took her photos from 4.26pm local time (8.26pm UK time) – which is also when Payne made the ‘boy band’ comment. Just 36 minutes later, hotel staff raised the alarm at 5.04pm following Payne’s fall. An ambulance arrived at 5.11pm and Payne was then certified dead.

Rebecca told MailOnline in an exclusive interview: ‘One of my friends was due to get his suite, so the hotel staff were a little on edge because he still hadn’t checked out at 4.30pm, but also because of his behaviour.

‘I came into the hotel, and he was waiting by the elevator, and it was so clear he wanted someone to recognise him, there was something a bit desperate about him.

‘I was with my friends and we did know who he was, but none of us were that bothered.

‘When the lift came he suddenly said to us without any prompting: ‘Yes, I’m Liam!’ really drawing it out, and then said ‘All right come on you lot, get in the elevator with me, I love a cuddle’.

‘I decided against it and waited for the next one, but some of the other girls got in with him and half way up, he started saying ‘Oh, you’re Americans, I live in West Palm Beach.

‘I know Americans. You guys are f***ing crazy! You guys are f***ing dangerous!

‘And then he grabs a girl who I think was with him and starts fake choking her, only lightly, but the others thought it was really disturbing.’

Rebecca said she returned to the lobby ten minutes later and shortly afterwards, Payne arrived back, dangling his open laptop nonchalantly from one corner.

He then began reading emails after flopping onto a sofa, wearing a white vest, cargo pants and trainers.

‘I have a blind relative and I realised he had the laptop on its accessibility setting, for some reason, so that each time he moved the mouse, hovering over something the machine spoke out loud to say where the cursor was,’ said Rebecca.

‘I assumed he was doing that for the attention too. Then he opened his emails and saw one which obviously upset him. Suddenly he took the computer, shouted ‘f**k this s**t mate!’ and started bashing the computer on the ground.

‘Everyone, especially the staff was really shocked. It’s a high-end hotel and his behaviour was so out of place – people were just chilling.

‘I went over, asked ‘are you OK?’ But he just kind of grunted. Then he said ‘I used to be in a boyband. That’s why I’m so f**ked up.’

‘I couldn’t believe he’d just come out and said something like that. There was a lot more swearing and he took the laptop over and went to get back in the lift.

‘After he’d gone, the British guy from his entourage, who I think was called Roger, came over and apologised on his behalf, saying ‘I’m sorry, he just gets so high sometimes’.

‘I did wonder what these people with him were doing to help him, but maybe they had tried and failed. The hotel staff were freaking out and watching him really nervously. I could see one of them was on the phone to what I assumed was security or the police.

‘I’ve never taken cocaine, but he was behaving exactly as I’d imagine someone would on the drug – he wasn’t focusing, and his pupils were dilated, and he was behaving in aggressive way – though not to anyone in particular.’

Meanwhile the hotel manager later reportedly told guests ‘we have a guest who’s out of it because of drugs and alcohol. And when he’s conscious, he’s breaking everything in the room’.

Last night, prosecutors investigating the death confirmed they had spoken to two women who had been with the singer the night before he died.

Police had been searching for the duo having identified them as ‘key witnesses’. They have now provided statements alongside three hotel staff members.

There is no indication that the women could be involved in his death, but police hope they can help piece together Payne’s final moments before he plunged to his death at around 5pm local time.

Argentina’s prosecutor’s office said ‘everything indicates’ the singer was alone when he died, but an investigation is looking into the ‘possible involvement of third parties in the events prior’.

A post-mortem confirmed yesterday Payne died instantly after suffering multiple injuries that led to ‘internal and external haemorrhaging’.

It comes as MailOnline revealed that the father-of-one had told a hotel guest, ‘I used to be in a boy band – that’s why I am so f***ed up’, just minutes before he died.

The woman, referred to as Rebecca (not her real name), said he showed ‘weird and disturbing behaviour’ before smashing his laptop on the floor.
