The Star of Prime’s Top Show Comes Clean About His Viral Workout Photo

Invincible’s J.K. Simmons reveals the truth behind his pumped up form.

The second part of Invincible Season 2 recently premiered on Prime, starring the acclaimed J.K. Simmons, who voiced Nolan Grayson aka Omni-Man – the most powerful superhero on the planet and the father of the main character, who is only developing his powers.

In this connection, the actor’s 2016 photo, featuring him strongly jacked in the timeline of filming his Justice League and evoking a back-then Internet sensation, has resurfaced – remember those times?

The point was that the Commissioner James Gordon’s actor had become a topic of rumors which assured that he would appear in Zack Snyder’s superhero banger in such an excellent form and that his workouts were the part of his preparation for this very role.

However, his character, the head of the Gotham City Police Department, appears in the movie wearing a trench coat all his screen time, which left fans surprised.

It has been recently revealed in the actor’s interview with ComicBook.com that the reason for his training was drastically different. It turned out that after his participation in his wife’s movie I’m Not Here he lost much weight and needed to get back in form, returning to the regular workouts in the gym and obsessing with it. When he reached his strongest form, his training pal took a few pictures of him and posted them online.

Later, he got lots of the press and netizens’ questions, concerning his potential preparation for Justice League, as the photo simultaneously went viral in the Internet and, especially, among DC fans, building their theories of his character’s appearance.

“It was just coincidental timing with me trying to reclaim my distant athletic youth and trying to stay fit and give my wife some eye candy,” Simmons cleared this situation.

Despite such an easy explanation, it’s impossible not to recall the speculations made by Redditors on that occasion. Apart from admiration for the 61-year-old actor and jokes about his character winning everyone in the DCU, there were even amusing statements about Snyder’s tendency to choose muscled actors for his movies.

“I thought it was Zack ruining Gordon with his obsession with ripped dudes,” jokes user @Mister_873.

These days you can enjoy the actor’s work on his similarly pumped up animated character in the second season of Invincible, which is now streaming on Prime.
