Now, new probate documents have revealed the final details of his estate, shedding light on the actor’s life away from the cameras before his passing in 2022.

After leaving Emmerdale in 2010, Andy retired from acting the following year, making his final on-screen appearance as Dennis Dowling in Doctors. He chose a quiet life by the sea, settling at the Ocean Road Riverside Caravan Park in Southport, Lancashire.

Despite stepping away from fame, he remained fondly remembered by castmates and fans alike. The actor, whose real name was Peter Devine, had previously appeared in Coronation Street, Queer as Folk, and Merseybeat during a career that spanned decades.

The Truth About His Final Days

Andy passed away in early 2022 at the age of 79. According to an inquest, he died from hospital-acquired pneumonia following a fall at home. Tragically, he was unable to get up for nearly an hour before carers arrived.

Coroner Julie Goulding confirmed that the death was ruled accidental, noting that Andy suffered from “a significant number of serious underlying clinical co-morbidities.” Despite medical efforts, his condition deteriorated in hospital.

Probate records show that Andy did not leave a formal will. His estate was valued at £103,776 gross, with a net value of £98,907, according to letters of administration issued in 2024.

Tributes from Co-stars and Friends

Following his death, tributes poured in from across the acting world. Emmerdale co-star Liam O’Brien shared that he was “heartbroken to hear of the passing of an old friend,” adding, “even sadder that he passed in January and I never knew.”

Coronation Street actor Daniel Jillings, who once studied under Andy, described him as “my first drama teacher” and “a character both on and off screen.”
