A source said the Trooping the Colour event earlier this month “hammered home” how the Duke of Sussex is now an “outsider”

Prince Harry would havee “loved” to have been invited to Trooping the Colour and felt “upset” when he saw footage of Princess Kate at the royal event, a source has claims.

The Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan Markle, missed out on an invite to the King’s official birthday on June 15 for the second year in a row having stepped back as senior royals.

In what was just one of three recent humiliations, which included snubs from both his father and the Duke of Westminster, the event “hammered home” how Harry is now an “outsider”, according to the source.

They told Closer magazine: “It was painful for Harry to see all his family gathered for Trooping the Colour. He would have dearly loved to have been there, if only to congratulate and support Kate in person on what must have been an incredibly difficult day for her.

“Harry was particularly upset and emotional when he saw the footage of Kate. He’s been so worried about her ever since he received the news of her condition, and while he has managed to connect with her on a few occasions, it’s not nearly as often as he’d like.”

They continued: “He could see she was putting on a stoic, brave face, but ultimately having the eyes of the world on her was a lot of pressure. The fact he had to watch from 6,000 miles away just made him so sad.

“It really hammered home how he’s an outsider at this point. He would just love to have her – along with the rest of his family – back in his life properly.”

Harry took a step back from his royal duties in 2020 to start a new life in California with his wife and two children, Archie, 5.

He last visited the UK in May, attending the 10th anniversary service at St Paul’s Cathedral for the Invictus Games. But he did not meet his father King Charles, as the monarch was “too busy” to see him.

In what has been a particularly difficult time for the Royals, with both Princess Kate and King Charles’ cancer diagnoses, the current state of affairs is worlds away from the brothers’ “Fab Four” appearances when Meghan first joined the family.

In addition to his snub from Trooping the Colour, Harry was “uninvited” to the Duke of Westminster’s “wedding of the year” earlier this month, according to royal biographer Emily Andrews.

She said: “Harry has broken so many bonds of trust with so many people, it is difficult to see him ever attending a society wedding or Trooping the Colour again.”
