Secret meaning behind Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa’s baby name

The Jordanian Royal Family is celebrating the birth of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa’s first child.

Congratulations to Crown Prince Hussein and his wife Princess Rajwa of Jordan after she gave birth to their first child, a daughter, on Saturday August 3.

An official statement from the Royal Hashemite Court read: “The Royal Hashemite Court is pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Princess Rajwa Al Hussein were blessed, on 3 August 2024, with a baby girl they named Iman.

“The Royal Hashemite Court extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to Their Royal Highnesses and to Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah on this happy occasion.

“Their Royal Highnesses are immensely overjoyed and thankful on welcoming their firstborn, and call on well-wishers to consider donating to Al-Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans in lieu of sending gifts or flowers.”

The Crown Prince and Princess’ new daughter’s full name is Princess Iman bint Hussein, with the name Iman sweetly meaning ‘faith’ or ‘belief’ in Arabic.

The name Iman also pays a touching tribute to the Royal Family, as Prince Hussein’s younger sister is called Princess Iman bint Abdullah and King Abdullah’s half-sister also has the name.

Prince Hussein and Princess Iman have an incredibly close bond, as he escorted her down the aisle when she married Jameel Alexander Thermiótis in March last year.

The Crown Prince and Princess Rajwa wed in a lavish ceremony in Jordan’s capital Amman in June 2023, with Prince William, Princess Kate and Princess Beatrice all attending the celebrations.

Princess Iman bint Hussein is the first grandchild of Prince Hussein’s parents, King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan, who are sure to be delighted with the news.

It is rare for the King and Queen to speak about their private life, but in a recent interview with Al Arabiya, they confirmed they were “very excited about the new phase” in their lives.

The King said: “Everything will change with the kids, for sure. I don’t know what to expect, but thank God we are excited and the family is excited too.”

Queen Rania welcomed news of her granddaughter’s arrival on X, posting: “Praise be to God for His greatest gifts… You have enlightened our lives with our precious granddaughter, Iman.

“May God protect us from you. Congratulations to Hussein and Rajwa, and may God fill your lives with blessings and contentment.”

“We ask God to give her good growth and protect her for her parents. You enlightened our family, grandfather.”
