Queen Camilla will miss the annual Field of Remembrance event on Thursday as Her Majesty is currently unwell, Buckingham Palace has said.

The Queen also pulled out of a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes hosted by the King the same evening.

She is currently resting on doctor’s advice and has apologised for the inconvenience.

The Palace said in a statement: “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.”

The spokesperson added that Camilla “very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal”.

They said: “With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.

“She apologises to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester has stepped in on the Queen’s behalf to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey.

No further details regarding her illness or treatment have been released, but she is understood to be being cared for under doctors’ supervision.

The latest update follows a challenging year, health-wise, for the Royal Family, with both the King and the Princess of Wales being diagnosed with cancer.

It comes after Camilla joined King Charles for a nine-day tour last month to Australia and Samoa.

The royal couple ended their tour on October 25 but did not arrive back home to the UK until last week as they enjoyed a mini spa break in India.
