While attending a London event to showcase the importance of supporting young people in the games and television industries, Prince William described a sweet family dynamic between all his children.

Prince William described how Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, all fight over the TV remote at home.

During a chat with a National Film and Television School (NFTS) student, Erik Scott, on Wednesday, Prince William joked that his three children are “always wrestling over the remote” as he hailed the arts as “an important part of the fabric of our lives”. He also joked that there is now so much screen content to choose from.

The event, which was co-hosted by The British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) and The Royal African Society, saw the eldest son of King Charles meet with the 2024 recipients of The Prince William BAFTA Bursary fund and students who have been supported by the society.

Prince William attended the event in central London as the President of the arts organisation and Patron of the Society.

Leading British actors Andy Serkis, Celia Imrie and Stephen Merchant also attended the event as donors to the bursary and spoke of the importance of supporting the next generation.

The prince shared jokes with each of the actors after he thanked them for continuing to support the bursary.

Director Greengrass is also a champion of the financial award which provides grants of up to £2,000 to help young people from underrepresented groups advance their career in film, games or television. It was launched in 2021 and has so far provided 167 grants.

The royal spent time with students from the National Film and TV School (NFTS) who have been supported by the Royal African Society and who are working on the upcoming Film Africa festival, which promotes diverse voices and narratives in African storytelling.

The festival, which runs during Black History Month, is the largest of its kind for African heritage filmmakers in Europe, and this year marks its 11th event.

The heir to the throne joined students in a conversation about the importance of showcasing the creativity of African filmmakers to global audiences.

Prince William also added that, as the President of BAFTA, he is “very proud” to be involved with this organisation that is “dedicated to breaking down barriers for the storytellers of the future”.

According to the royal, opening the door to the creative industries to as many young and talented individuals as possible means also making sure that “young people are exposed to as wide a variety of voices and narratives as possible, as early as possible”.

He also stressed it was important that young people from all backgrounds can see themselves reflected on screen.
