Prince William is set to be an usher at a society wedding next month – but he will not be running into his brother at the reception.

The Prince of Wales is set to attend the wedding of his friend Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster and Olivia Henson.

The 33-year-old duke will marry his 31-year-old bride at Chester Cathedral – with the heir to the throne being amongst those in the groom’s party.

The Princess of Wales, currently undergoing treatment for cancer, will not be joining her husband at the wedding – and she will not be the only member of the Royal Family notable by her absence.

As well as being godfather to Prince George, Grosvenor is also godfather to Prince Archie, son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Citing sources close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Times reported that the pair had decided not to attend due to the fact it would be ‘too awkward’.

Grosvenor, himself a godson of the King – who will also not be attending due to his own cancer treatment – is understood to have wanted Harry to be among the 400 guests attending the event before deciding against it due to the ongoing issues between Harry and other members of the Royal Family including his older brother.

Despite this, the Times reports Harry and Meghan had received a ‘save the date’ card.

A source close to both William and Harry reportedly told the Times that Grosvenor had not wanted the day to be overshadowed by awkwardness, particularly for the sake of his bride.

The source added: “Hugh is one of the very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both.

“He wishes they could put their heads together and patch things up, but realises it’s unlikely to happen before the wedding.”
