BREAKING NEWS: Midsomer Murders replaced in ITV schedules

Midsomer Murders replaced in ITV schedules by another crime drama – despite star’s plea to bosses

ITV has announced a scheduling shake-up, much to the disappointment of Midsomer Murders fans.

The latest series of the popular murder mystery show concluded on Tuesday night.

The final episode followed the strange case of a bakery which was selling bread that turned out to be poisoned.

With the bakers pleading their innocence, DCI John Barnaby and DS Jamie Winter were left struggling to track down the person responsible for the lethal loaves.

It has now been confirmed that another ITV crime drama will fill Midsomer Murders’ slot in the TV schedule.

Vera, starring Brenda Blethyn as DCI Stanhope and Kenny Doughty as her former sidekick Aiden Healy, will be aired next Tuesday night instead.

The upcoming installment is a set to be a repeat episode that was screened earlier this year.

It sees the beloved Detective Chief Inspector called to investigate the death of a young woman whose body washed up on the banks of the River Tyne.

Her murder was a shock to the local community, as the victim was popular in her workplace, and loved by friends and family.

Vera has to untangle a web of lies and learn about secret betrayals to discover the woman’s killer.

Midsomer Murders star Neil Dudgeon, who plays leading man DCI Barnaby, previously begged show bosses to release more than one episode of the crime drama at a time.

He warned that the series is bound to lose viewers if big gaps are left between each installment, pointing out that no show is bulletproof.
ITV slammed by viewers after slapping Midsomer Murders with a trigger warning
Neil added: “Some years ago, ITV decided to schedule single episodes, or just two episodes from a series, so that Midsomer could take on rival shows on the other side.

“I think this is a shame. For an audience with any programme, they like to know when their show is going to be on, say, for the next four weeks. But they stopped doing this some time ago.

“It would be nice if it went out as a series again.”

Midsomer Murders viewers seriously $h0cked after spotting major change to fan-favourite

Midsomer Murders viewers seriously distracted after spotting major change to fan-favourite – but did you notice?

MIDSOMER Murder fans have remarked on the astonishing change they noticed in one character after tuning in to season 23.

The transformation left viewers curious about how much time is passing in between each season.

As DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and his partner DS Jamie Winter (Nick Hendrix) prepared to take on a new investigation, people pointed out something strange about one of the characters back in the village.

Detective Barnaby’s daughter Betty was only a toddler in season 22.

However, she has now sprouted up and can be seen in a school uniform having her hair braided before class in one scene.

One viewer joked: “Betty must be the fastest-growing child in human history.”

Another pondered: “If ever I needed proof that there’s always such a gap between episodes of Midsomer Murders, it’s seeing how Barnaby’s daughter has gone from literal toddler to schoolgirl in a matter of no episodes at all.”

A third agreed: “I get the feeling a lot of time has passed (narratively) since the last Midsomer Murders. 5-10 years, in fact. Everyone looks much older including Betty!”

Fans of Midsomer Murders were delighted to see the second installment of the series back on screens after its release was delayed because of the Euros.

In the episode, ex-cop Damian Bennet (Gary Beadle) was found dead after being suspected of stealing cash from a robbery bust.

Bizarrely,  Barnaby and Winter end up solving the complex case – thanks to a sample of chicken poo.

One of the leading stars of the murder mystery recently called for ITV bosses to make a change to the show.

Neil Dudgeon said that the broadcaster is letting fans down by taking so long to screen each episode.

He added: “I think this is a shame. For an audience with any programme, they like to know when their show is going to be on, say, for the next four weeks. But they stopped doing this some time ago.”

‘Where is it?’ demand ITV viewers after hit crime drama’s fourth series is kept off screens

ITV viewers have been left wondering where the fourth season of Grace is after the last series aired over a year ago.

The hit show is based on a series of books about a detective called Roy Grace.

Fans already know the upcoming season of Grace has four feature-length episodes, thanks to it premiering on BritBox in the US.

But UK audiences have been left in the dark about when they will get the chance to watch the crime drama.

Several fans have flocked to an online forum to speculate about what the hold up is and share when they think it could air.

One person queried: “I wonder what the delay is in airing Series 4? ITV normally air Grace in March/April so shouldn’t we have had it in Spring 2024.

“They might actually leave it until January 2025 and air it after the final two episodes of Vera, then going forward from January 2026 for Series 5 in the Sunday at 8pm slot where Vera aired (with January 2027 for possibly Series 6 as mentioned earlier).”

Another reassured: “Grace S4 does appear in the ITV July to September highlights press pack, so it is definitely coming, just no exact date as yet.”

A third explained: “They always tend to skip new drama in August with summer holidays.

“Then in the autumn they save the Sunday nights when it would normally be a crime show premiere for reality shows in particular I’m a Celebrity.

“ITV tend to save their new dramas for January to June.”

The season four episode names have been revealed to be: Dead Man’s Time, Want You Dead, You Are Dead, and Love You Dead.

    Grace season 2 trailer
They are based on four books with the same names by author Peter Grace.

Those particular novels revolve around the stories of an antique robbery, an obsessed ex-lover, a possible serial killer and a potential black widow.

While tuning in, viewers can also hope to learn more about Roy’s missing wife, Sandy.

Actor John Simm, who plays the Detective Superintendent, previously told the Mirror: “It’s a delicate balancing act because they’re two different things: A novel isn’t a TV show, and a TV show isn’t a novel.

“While we’re trying to be true to source material, it’s a TV show and so fans of the novel… some of them will be up in arms because it won’t be the characters they had in their head.

“But there’s nothing we as actors can do about that, we just have to serve the script and what is in front of us.”

He added: “I can’t really be worrying if the people who are into the novels won’t like it.”

Lucy Lawless, now 56, looked unrecognisable with shoulder-length blonde hair and a sweeping side fringe as she discussed her role as PI Alexa Crowe on the long-running programme.

The murder-mystery crime series was first broadcast in 2019 and follows her former police officer character as she keeps her hand in assisting the force to solve a number of murders.

Yet the Parks and Recreation star, who was born in New Zealand, struck a completely different look to that of her breakout role in Xena: Warrior Princess.

She told New York Live how she filmed both series in her native homeland.

Yet, when playing the titular character of Xena, she cut a different look as she donned striking brunette locks.

Lucy wore her hair poker straight – and lined her eyes with thick black liner – for the role in the fantasy series from 1995 to 2001.

The show ran for six series and has acquired a cult following, after Xena was originally a recurring character in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

Instead of her stylish printed blouse and dark trousers worn for her summer interview, for Xena’s antics on horseback, she was more used to sporting long leather boots and metal -clad armoury.

Yet despite the visual changes, Lucy told her recent TV interview there was many similarities between her various on-screen characters.

She said: “Seeing the powerful person who has done something terrible being brought to account.

    “We kind of love that.”

Addressing her latest telly role – and switching up her speech for Xena – she added: “I’ve never played a character in my accent, so that was kind of weird.

“It’s kind of written for me and around me – there’s a lot of me in this.”

Back in 2021, Lucy also stunned with another unrecognisable selfie.

It came as she shared a funny picture of herself in a reindeer onesie, as well as one in which she sported jam-jar frame glasses.

After Xena ended, Lucy went on to play Humanoid Cylon model Number Three D’Anna Biers in Battlestar Galactica and had a recurring role as Dine Lewis-Swanson in hit series Parks and Recreation.

She also played Lucretia in Spartacus: Blood and Sand and associated series.

    TRUE PRINCESS

Previously, Lucy spoke out about the life-changing impact of her breakthrough role.

The Auckland-born star addressed the slew of fan mail sent to her during the show’s early days during a candid chat aired on the Archive of American Television.

The screen star said: “There were lots of letters from people who wanted me to be ‘Xena.’

“If people choose to make the character you played into a hero of theirs, they can do that.

“They’ll say, ‘you gave me courage to help me get out of an abusive relationship,’ or ‘it helped me come out to my parents,’ or ‘it helped me get off drugs and become a teacher.’

“I say, ‘well, you did that. I can’t take any credit for it.

    “”Congratulations to you.’:”

Meghan Markle made headlines after her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey after she quit as a senior member of the Royal Family and now a clip from it has gone viral

Meghan Markle has gone viral with one heartbreaking moment from her Oprah Winfrey interview.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020. The famous couple gave an interview to chat show host Oprah shortly afterwards and it broke the internet.

The interview has now resurfaced in a viral TikTok video. In it, Meghan claims the Palace refused to help her with negative stories in the press. She said: “I did anything they told me to so – of course I did because it was also through the lens of,’ ‘And we’ll protect you.”

Meghan Markle made an emotional plea

She added: “So, even as things started to roll out in the media that I didn’t see – but my friends would call me and say, ‘Meg, this is really bad’ – because I didn’t see it, I’d go, ‘Don’t worry. I’m being protected.’

It followed the famous question Oprah asked: “Were you silent or silenced?” Meghan replied: “The latter.” Oprah probed: “So, how does that work? Were you told by the comms people or the – I don’t know – the institution, were you told to keep silent? Were you told to say nothing?”

Meghan explained: “Everyone from my world was given very clear directive from the moment the world knew Harry and I were dating to always say ‘No comment’.” Elsewhere in the new TikTok video, Meghan was seen talking about how she was refused help for her mental health during her time in the Royal Family.

Meghan said in the clip: “It was all happening just because I was breathing. I went to the institution, and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help.

“I said that, ‘I’ve never felt this way before, and I need to go somewhere’. And I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

The Duchess of Sussex said she spoke to “one of the most senior people just to get help”. She recalled their response as: “My heart goes out to you, because I see how bad it is, but there’s nothing we can do to protect you because you’re not a paid employee of the institution.”

Meghan added: “This wasn’t a choice. This was emails and begging for help, saying very specifically, ‘I am concerned for my mental welfare’.”

Prince Harry opens up about pain of losing his mother Diana in new emotional video in which he urges young people who have lost a parent to talk about their grief otherwise it ‘will eat away’ at them

Prince Harry has starred in a new video talking about grief, urging children and young people to talk about their emotions.

The royal, who was speaking in his role as a global ambassador for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which supports youngsters who have lost parents in the military, shared his own insight after losing his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, at just 12.

‘It’s so easy as a kid to think or convince yourself….you convince yourself that the person you’ve lost wants you, or you need to be sad for as long as possible to prove to them that they are missed. But then there’s this realisation of, no, they must want me to be happy,’ he says.

Harry, 39, who has railed in recent years against what he claims was a lack of family support after his mother’s tragic death in 1997, which he believes led him to bottle up his emotions and, eventually, seek therapy, added:

‘That’s the hardest thing, especially for kids, I think, which is, “I don’t want to talk about it because it will make me sad, but once realising that if I do talk about it, I’m celebrating their life, then actually, things become easier”…as opposed to this “I’m just not going to talk about it, and that’s the best form of coping”, when in fact it’s not. It can be for a period of time…you can’t suppress it for ever. It’s not sustainable. And will eat away at you inside.

‘You convince yourself that the person you’ve lost wants you, or you need to be sad for as long as possible to prove to them that they are missed. But then there’s this realisation of, no, they must want me to be happy,’ he said

‘No-one wants to in the position where they are forced to talk about the very thing they don’t want to talk about, especially when every defence mechanism in your mind, nervous system and everything else is saying “do not go there”.’

The emotionally charged video was made in May, when he last came to the UK, and sees the prince talk to Nikki Scott, founder of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, as she recounted the harrowing moment she had to tell her five-year-old son, Kai, that his father, Cpl Lee Scott, who served with the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, had been killed in Afghanistan in 2009. She also had a seven-month-old daughter, Brooke, at the time.

It has been released by the charity in the lead-up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday to highlight the ongoing needs of bereaved military children in the UK.

Ms Scott’s personal tragedy inspired her to create Scotty’s Little Soldiers after seeing the positive impact a family holiday had on her son.

I’m really honoured and privileged to be part of Scotty’s now and I really look forward to us doing everything we can to bring in more people, more interest, raise more funds and be able to get the message out there to get more kids the support they so desperately need.’

Six biggest bombshells from Thomas Markle as he issues desperate plea to Meghan Markle

Thomas Markle Snr has been estranged form his daughter Meghan Markle for the last six years and he’s now issued her a desperate plea to end the bitter feud

Thomas Markle Snr has pleaded with Meghan Markle to end their feud and give him the chance to meet his grandchildren.

The pair have been estranged for six years following a massive fallout before Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry. Thomas was caught staging paparazzi photos before the big day, leaving Meghan devastated.

As Thomas is getting ready to celebrate his 80th birthday next month, he’s now sat down for a new interview and opened up about his relationship with his daughter. Here, we’ve taken a look at some of the biggest bombshells from the chat.

Thomas will be celebrating his 80th birthday on July 18, but admitted he doesn’t expect to hear from Meghan. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he’s now begged his daughter to end their feud in time for his special day.

If the pair can’t put aside their differences, Thomas said he would like to finally meet Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, or at the very least have a picture of them. He said: “I’ve never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch.”

Thomas has never met his grandchildren as they were both born after his fallout with Meghan. The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to Archie on May 6 2019, before welcoming Lilibet on June 4 2021.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet haven’t met their grandfather
Archie and Lilibet have made very few trips to the UK and don’t have a close relationship with members of the Royal Family. Thomas said he finds it “very said” that the youngsters are “being denied the right to know their cousins”.

He said they should be given the chance to develop that “special” bond. He also said Archie and Lilibet should be given the opportunity to take part in Royal events such as Trooping the Colour, something he described as their “birth right”.

Thomas also warned the youngsters will soon start asking Meghan and Harry questions about their family. He explained: “It’s inevitable that they will ask their parents why they have cut them off from both sides of the family?”

Thomas said he feels as though he is “in the same boat” as King Charles, who is also estranged from the Sussexes. Meghan’s father expressed his “deep empathy” for the monarch as he said he would “love to speak to him”.

Thomas suggested Charles might have the same “unanswered questions” he does and said neither of them “deserves the treatment we’ve received”. The former film producer pointed out how the King is currently undergoing cancer treatment, which would be the perfect opportunity for a reunion.

In the interview, Thomas also admitted he didn’t expect to make it to 80 years old as he confessed “Markle men never do”. His own father, Gordon Markle, died aged 61.

Gordon worked as a printer at Olmsted Air Force Base outside the family’s hometown of Newport, Pennsylvania, while his mother Doris Markle ran the sweet counter at a budget store.

Despite not expecting to reach 80, Thomas admitted he isn’t afraid of dying. In a defiant statement, he told the Daily Mail: “It is what it is.”

With the drama surrounding Thomas in the build-up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding, the Duke of Sussex didn’t get to meet his father-in-law. The pair have remained estranged in the years since.

Thomas admitted he found it strange that Harry never offered to meet with him before marrying Meghan. He pointed out how the Duke had the “resources to fly around the world”, but didn’t fly to America to see Thomas.

Meghan has grown estranged from her father over the years and the last time they spoke was when he was in a hospital bed before her wedding. The pair stopped speaking after Thomas was caught staging paparazzi photos before Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018.

Thomas has opened up about the incident and admitted he made a “mistake”, but has since apologised “repeatedly”. Thomas explained: “Meghan was mad at me because I posed for some paparazzi pictures before the wedding. I was totally alone and being hounded.”

Thomas, 79, shared that he feels “deep empathy” for Charles, 75, whom he believes is “in the same boat” as him.

“I have so many questions I’d like to ask Meghan and Harry,” he told the newspaper. “The main one being, why have they treated not only me but the royal family and the king so badly?”

Thomas says the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have kept their children, Archie and Lilibet, from their grandfathers.

Ahead of his 80th birthday next month, Mr Markle pointed out that he has yet to meet his grandchildren Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, both of whom were born after he tarnished his relationship with Meghan, 42, by staging paparazzi photos just before her 2018 royal wedding.

“They have two grandpas who want to see them, one of whom is the king of England,” he said. “I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the king.”

Thomas explained that Archie and Lilibet are “getting to the age where they will start asking questions,” so he feels it is only a matter of time until they “realise all the things they have missed out on” due to Harry, 39, and Meghan quitting their royal duties in 2020 and moving to the US.

The former photography director shared that his only wish for his upcoming birthday is to hear from Meghan, though he knows she “won’t be in touch.”

“I wish we could have worked this situation out. I was always ready and willing to do that,” he claimed despite publicly bashing the Sussexes over the years.

Since relocating to her native California, Meghan and Harry have remained close with her mother, Doria Ragland, but steered clear of seeing or talking to her father, who has never met his royal son-in-law.

The couple also has had limited contact with the prince’s family, whom they felt did not support their relationship.

Meghan and Harry infamously aired their grievances in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, and he shared further details about his family feud in his 2023 memoir, Spare.

Since then, the Invictus Games founder has seen his dad, Charles, and estranged brother, Prince William, only a handful of times during brief trips home to London.

From what she said in the documentary in Africa, this became even clearer. The more she tried to make it seem easier, the more difficult it became ,” Nicholl added.
