BBC star Richard Osman has broken his silence on John Torode’s MasterChef exit, claiming that he was given the option to stay on the show by the BBC under one condition. Earlier this week, John Torode was fired from MasterChef after an allegation of him using “an extremely offensive racist term” was upheld.

The TV presenter said in a statement that he had “no recollection” of it happening and that he only found out that his contract had been terminated after the BBC and production company Banijay put out the news. Now, Richard Osman – who was a creative director at Banijay’s Endemol Shine – has shared his insight into the situation, claiming that the show had asked the TV presenter to do a training course and take a year off from the show after the allegation was upheld.

Speaking on his podcast, The Rest is Entertainment, Richard explained: “They took John Torode aside, this was my understanding of the whole situation, and said: ‘We believe that this happened. We believe that you used this language.’ He denied it.

“They said to him – whether this was the BBC or Banijay – they said to him, ‘We will accept if you want to take a year off, you have to do a mandatory training course to understand and accept that this is not something we particularly want in our workplace.’

“That was denied. He said, ‘Of course I’m not going to do that. I didn’t do this in the first place anyway so why would I ever do this?’”

He added that the show then decided to let John go. “John Torode said, ‘The first I knew about it was I read it in the papers.’ And my understanding is that’s not true – the first thing he knew about it was when he was told it,” Richard added.

Richard went onto claim that while John had claimed that the BBC asked him to resign and blame his mental health, the “only conversation” had was asking him to do a training course.

Richard explained: “The only conversation was, ‘We believe this happened. We will give you a second chance, a lifeline, which is you take a year, you take a series off, you go and do something, talk to people who maybe persuade you that this is not the way to act in a certain workplace.’ And he said that he was not prepared to do that.”

Richard later alleged that there were further claims that weren’t upheld. “And by the way, there’s all sorts of things that weren’t upheld because they couldn’t say for certain they believed it happened. But, you know, on this particular occasion, it’s not woke gone mad,” Richard said.

“You know, he used, I think, probably the worst racial slur there is. And they found that to be substantively true. They found evidence that they were happy with — that that was true.

“He is saying, ‘I definitely didn’t do it. I certainly can’t remember it,’ but that one was upheld.”

The Mirror has reached out to John Torode’s representation for comment. Banijay declined to comment.

John Torode is now planning to take legal action against the BBC over his sacking, a source told The Mirror yesterday. “He wants to pursue them for unfair dismissal. He’s telling people there is no proof of his supposed comment. It was not in a work capacity, it was just hearsay. John is determined to clear his name,” they said.

Reflecting on the kind-hearted nature of her late husband, she lovingly recalled: “He was an incredibly kind, generous, and caring man, with a delightfully quirky sense of humour, which remained till the end.”

She wrote in an accompanying caption: “Mum’s got a right shiner after her fall! Trying to soothe it with Arnica cream.”

But looking for some positivity among the misery, Ruth pointed out that Joan has an impressive natural colour of hair despite being in her ninth decade of life. The TV star commented: “94 yrs old and hardly a grey hair… I’m hoping I’ve inherited the gene!”

Last weekend, Ruth revealed that the tragic fall – has put their Christmas plans on hold. She revealed in a social media post: “No dancing in my kitchen peeling the veg for my darling Mum this Christmas…. She’s had a fall and fractured her pelvis! Joanna Page has candidly discussed the possibility of expanding her family with her husband, despite previously having her “tubes tied”.

In a recent issue of Woman and Home magazine, the Gavin and Stacey actress and mother-of-four revealed that she’d had discussions with her husband, actor James Thornton, about potentially having more children.

Joanna previously told the Loose Women panel about her decision to have her fallopian tubes cut in her mid-forties, and reportedly considered reversing the procedure. She confessed to still feeling “very maternal”, but disclosed that a health check this year led to a moment that “felt huge”.

Joanna stated: “I’ve been thinking about fostering or adopting. It’s something I’ve chatted about with James because I’m still very maternal, and it’s something that I would think about in the future.”

“I don’t regret having my tubes tied, and although I felt broody at the start of the year, I don’t any more. At the beginning of this year, I did a health check, which involved a scan that showed that my right ovary had packed up.

“There wasn’t anything left, no eggs. That moment felt huge, as if my body was saying, ‘That is it’.”

She further revealed that she was prescribed HRT patches after visiting a menopause doctor, but was hesitant to use them as she believed that it meant she wouldn’t have any more kids.

However, she admitted: “I was very down, very depressed. I could cope with flushes, they weren’t bothering me. It was just my mood”.

Speaking previously on Loose Women, Joanna revealed she had been feeling “broody”, but, afterwards, didn’t give it much thought. She then realised that having another pregnancy would be impossible, admitting it would leave her “utterly exhausted”.

She revealed: “I always said with my husband, I lost my husband that I loved, but I gained a child that I love because they become your children, and they’re there physically, but they’re not with you.”

Fans of the 1975 have been left stunned to see frontman Matty Healy will appear in a reality show with his mum, Denise Welch.

The 35-year-old musician is the son of 66-year-old Loose Women star Denise and her ex-husband Tim Healy, 72 – who she was married to from 1988 until 2012. Earlier this year it was revealed that Denise would be taking part in the Channel 4 reality series Celebrity Hunted which sees a cast of stars attempting to make it to a specified location while avoiding professional hunters that plan to catch them.

Denise signed up to the show alongside her third and current husband Lincoln Townley, 52 – but TV fans seem even more excited by the fact that chart-topping star Matty is set to make an appearance on the show. The series was filmed back in the summer and promotional clips have unveiled the unexpected inclusion of the Somebody Else singer.

In a trailer for the new season – which is due to begin airing on Channel 4 on Sunday 5 January 2025 – Matty is shown in a scene where Denise and Lincoln dive for cover by going backstage at at Radio 1’s Big Weekend when they band were performing. Footage shows the frontman saying: “Seriously what’s been going on? It’s been mental. I’ve been sending random messages to your phone.”

His mum then says: “They’ve [the hunters] have got our phone,” before Healy adds: “Well I’ve been saying I’ll meet you in Sunderland and stuff” – suggesting that Denise’s plan to secretly meet her son could ultimately lead to her getting caught. Channel 4 could see a boost in ratings for the upcoming season as fans of the 1975 have been flooding social media with comments and promises to tune in to watch the reality show.

One fan gushed on X: “Celebrity hunted with matty omg need it.” Another typed: “Saw the trailer. I’m so watching it just to hear Matty talking or whatever.” Sharing footage via Instagram, one fan highlighted the star’s involvement, writing: “Matty Healy appears with mum, @denise_welch and her husband @lincolntownley who star in Channel 4 Celebrity Hunted Season 6! Matty helping them elude capture by sending misleading messages? Can’t wait to see how Denise and Lincoln do.”

The 1975 have been largely out of the spotlight in recent months after vowing to take time off after an exhausting 60 date world tour. The lads hit the road in September 2023 with their Still… At Their Very Best Tour which took in dates across Europe and North America – and didn’t conclude until March 2024.

Matty sparked alarm when he told fans the band intended to go on an “indefinite hiatus” upon the conclusion of the tour. He later explained: “I didn’t mean to scare any hardcore fans by insinuating that we were splitting up or anything like that. That’s not happening. Don’t worry.” Their last album, titled Being Funny in a Foreign Language, was released in October 2022.

Loose Women star Frankie Bridge hit back at her co-star Kaye Adams on the show today as the pair clashed over Frankie’s cooking skills

Loose Women star Frankie Bridge called her co-star a grandma in a cheeky dig on live TV.

Kaye Adams was hosting the ITV show on Monday, alongside Linda Robson and Myleene Klass as well as Frankie. As part of the episode, Frankie took part in a cooking challenge with chef and air fryer lover Nathan Anthony.

They were tasked with making toasties with the leftovers from Christmas, including stuffing, brussels sprouts and turkey – but before the other panellists tasted the toasties, Frankie stopped Kaye, who tried to tell her not to influence their decision.

“No let me say my peace,” she said jokingly, before explaining that she didn’t know she had to put butter on both sides of the bread – and also claimed she needed Nathan’s help to sort the air fryer, and his finished much later than hers.

They tried the toasties, with Linda not very keen on Frankie’s, whilst Myleene loved Nathan’s. Kaye had the deciding vote and tried both, with her praising Frankie, before the former Saturdays singer quipped: “It’s always nice to have my grandma’s support,” leaving Kaye open-mouthed as they both laughed at Frankie’s joke.

Earlier in the show, Frankie opened up about how she struggles with her mental health during this period between Christmas and New Year. It is something she has discussed before, admitting she feels the “pressure”.

She explained back in 2022: “Actually this time of year comes a lot of pressure. You can’t necessarily do exactly what you want to do, you’re travelling here, there and everywhere, you’re trying to keep everyone happy. Although it is something I love, I find when I’m supposed to feel happy in a situation, I feel that pressure.

“I am literally Mrs Claus, I love Christmas, I love the lead up to it, I love the decorations. I was just aware I had this low moment and I thought I’m gonna share it because all anyone’s seeing is me out having all my Christmas parties and out with the girls, and it all looks fun and games. I wasn’t sure if I should share in case I’d bring other people down if they’re feeling festive.”

Zara Tindall has admitted she was left “so annoyed” by husband Mike Tindall after he splashed out £12,000 on a spontaneous purchase.

King Charles’ niece, 44, previously revealed Mike – who was a member of the I’m Celebrity reality TV cast in 2022 – had imbibed some beers before paying up.

And even though many wives might object if their husband forked out such a huge amount without warning, equestrian Zara seemed more put out that the item Mike snapped up appeared to be a winning acquisition.

Zara Tindall ‘frustrated’ with husband Mike

In an anecdote that has made the pages of this week’s Closer magazine, Zara recalls how her hubby of nearly 14 years bought a horse in an auction.

Picked up during an auction at Cheltenham Racecourse, former rugby star Mike reportedly decided to make his first bid of the evening as the final lot of the night was sold off.

He’d had a few beers.

Zara Tindall recalled: “He’d had a few beers. It was the last lot of the night. Mikey put his hand up and that was it. He was left buying this horse for £12,000.”

However, it wasn’t as if Mike was left with an old nag whose legs had gone. Indeed, the money he spent may well have been a decent investment.

The horse, named Monbeg Dude and trained by Michael Scudamore, was co-owned by Mike alongside fellow egg chasers James Simpson-Daniel and Nicky Robinson.

“Annoyingly, it did not backfire,” Zara continued. “He got three mates involved and the horse ended up winning the Welsh Grand National and came third in the Grand National. I was so annoyed.”

Monbeg Dude’s reputation saw it hailed as one of the top steeplechasers. However, retirement came in 2016 when it was ten years old after reportedly suffering an injury.

Following this, Monbeg Dude resided at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire where the Tindalls and Princess Anne live.

Trainer Michael Scudamore reflected to the BBC: “It’s great to see him going to a happy retirement. But he will certainly leave a big hole in the yard. We’ve had some great days with him. And the thing about him was that he wasn’t bred to be a superstar.”

Manchester-born actress Tina O’Brien, known for playing Sarah Platt in ITV’s Coronation Street, has a new boyfriend, six months after separating from her husband Adam Crofts, it’s been claimed.

The Corrie star was married to Adam, a personal trainer, for seven years. They began dating in 2011 and tied the knot on New Year’s Eve 2018, but have been living separately since Christmas last year.

According to The Sun, Tina has found love again, with another Adam – Adam Fadlé. Friends of the actress told the paper the two lovebirds met in Cheshire, where they both live.

“Tina fell out of love with one Adam and then fell in love with another. She’s been on a few dates with him and they’ve been very open with their relationship,” a source alleged to the paper.

To front her final This Morning of the summer, Cat Deeley slipped her slender frame into a gorgeous white blazer mini dress by Mint Velvet. It retails for £199, and looked entirely to-die-for teamed with her £1,070 Versace Medusa heels.

Ahead of the show, co-host Ben Shephard showed his appreciation for Cat’s outfit. Sharing a video to Instagram, he panned up and down her outfit, before focusing on her shoes.

Cat has resorted to showing what she had for breakfast again!

However, it wasn’t just the shoes that This Morning viewers were looking at. It may even be up there with her Top 10 most controversial outfits. As some even claimed they could see what Cat had for breakfast!

Commenting on the mini dress, one said: “I see #CatDeely has resorted to showing what she had for breakfast again! Roll on the school holidays… let’s enjoy a break from her!”

A second went one step further, although they definitely saw something our eagle-eyed team of writers didn’t… “Yuk. Sitting there with her gammon showing,” one viewer posted on Facebook.

Another wondered why Cat was “wearing a coat as a dress”. Meanwhile, another asked just how the presenter was going to manage to stay clean in her gleaming outfit for the duration of the show!

“There is no way Cat isn’t getting crap all over her jacket in the next 2.5 hrs,” they joked.
