Meghan Markle ‘genuinely feels hurt’ over royal family rift, wants to ‘talk things through’

Meghan Markle is still reportedly picking up the pieces as the rift between the Sussex camp and the royal family rages on.

Four years after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit royal life, Markle still “genuinely feels hurt” over the feud, according to a report.

“Harry is more willing to move on, let’s just say that,” a source told the Express, adding that the “Suits” alum, 42, would still like to talk things through with the Windsor clan.

“It’s not a case of Meghan being difficult, she genuinely feels hurt and would like some kind of sit-down to hash things through — but that’s not something the other side is willing to consider at this time,” the insider added.

Despite Markle’s rumored desire to reconnect with the Firm, it seems as though hopes of a reconciliation seem far-fetched at this time.

According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked for King Charles, “too much damage” has been done for things to go back to how they were.

“[Harry] caused damage and broke down trust,” Harrold exclusively told The Post this week. “It’s difficult when you’re a future monarch.”

“I doubt they’ll ever get back the relationship they had originally. That was a very different relationship built on trust. It’s going to take time. William is a tough character. He’s a good guy.”

According to Harrold, the only way the Sussexes can get let back into the royal fold is if Harry releases a public apology for all the hurt that was caused by his protocol-shattering memoir, “Spare.”

Soon after moving to Montecito, Calif., the duo signed up for a series of tell-all projects, each of which revealed bombshell details about the ongoing rift between the two camps.

After sitting down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Sussexes went on to release their six-part Netflix documentary.

Unsurprisingly, the lucrative projects have done them no favors in repairing their relationship with the royals.

On the other hand, the pair have established their own brand and public image in the US — one that has earned them a myriad of awards in recent years.

Most recently, Invictus Games founder Harry was named as the recipient of the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2024 ESPYs.

The honor has had its fair share of critics, however, including Tillman’s mother, Mary Tillman.

“I am shocked as to why they would select such a controversial and divisive individual to receive the award,” Mary told the Daily Mail. “There are recipients that are far more fitting. There are individuals working in the veteran community that are doing tremendous things to assist veterans.”

Meghan Markle tears up over exit: ‘I tried so hard’ and ‘wasn’t good enough’

Meghan Markle tears up over how “hard” she worked to “fit in” before stepping back from her royal duties in January 2020.

“I tried so hard,” the “Suits” alum says in the second half of “Harry & Meghan,” which dropped on Netflix Thursday.

“That’s the piece that’s so triggering,” she continues. “Because … it still wasn’t good enough, and you still don’t fit in.”

Markle, 41, describes leaving England, saying in the docuseries that a man overseeing the plane’s crew took his hat off and shared his appreciation for “everything [she] did for [the] country.”

The Duchess of Sussex remembers, “It was the first time that I felt like someone saw the sacrifice, not for my own country, for this country. It’s not mine.”

When the couple landed in Canada, Markle says she collapsed into the arms of one of Prince Harry’s longtime security guards.

The “Deal or No Deal” alum shares that she then told her husband’s employee that she “tried so hard,” to which he replied, “I know you did. I know you did, ma’am. I know you did.”

After their Canada move, the pair and their now-3-year-old son, Archie, stayed at Tyler Perry’s Los Angeles estate in March 2020. They moved to Montecito, Calif., later that same year, where they welcomed daughter Lilibet, now 1, in June 2021.

The duo officially resigned from all of their royal duties four months before their baby girl’s arrival.

“Following conversations with the duke, the Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of the royal family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service,” read a February 2021 Buckingham Palace statement.

“While all are saddened by their decision, the duke and duchess remain much loved members of the family.”

Harry, 38, clarifies in the Netflix show that Markle is not “to be blamed” for their new life.

“It was my decision. She never asked to leave. I had to see it for myself,” the Duke of Sussex explains, noting that he had “no other option” due to his wife’s mistreatment by the media and her battle with suicidal thoughts.

Markle revealed in March 2021 that she contemplated suicide while pregnant with Archie, saying at an event earlier this month that “sharing experiences and sharing stories has an enormous impact.”

  • Prince Harry breaks down in harrowing interview discussing navigating life 27 years on from the loss of mother Princess Diana

Prince Harry breaks down in harrowing interview discussing navigating life 27 years on from the loss of mother Princess Diana

Prince Harry has been moved to tears as he spoke about the grief of losing his mother Princess Diana and the coping mechanisims he found to manage his pain, in an emotional new interview with a charity.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, in May spoke about his mourning during a sit-down interview with Nikki Scott, founder of charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers for bereaved military children who have lost a parent to war.

Harry, who is the charity’s global ambassador, choked back tears as he told Nikki he was only 12-years-old when his own mother Princess Diana died in a car crash while fleeing the paparazzi on August 31, 1997, aged 36.

“It’s so easy as a kid to think or convince yourself the reason, I would know, I was twelve…the person you’ve lost wants you or you need to be sad for as long as possible to prove to them that they’re missed,” he said.

“That’s the hardest thing especially for kids, I think, which is, I don’t want to talk about it because it’s going to make me sad.

“Especially when every defence mechanism in your mind, nervous system and everything else is saying ‘do not go there.”

It was then the Duke revealed he had stumbled upon the realisation: “No… they must want me to be happy.”

Harry’s insight comes from personal circumstances, as he learned suppressing grief was “in fact not” the best form of coping with loss.

“It can be for a period of time,” he went on to say.

“But…if you supress this for too long, you can’t suppress it forever it’s not sustainable and it will east away at you inside.

“Once realising that if I do talk about it and I’m celebrating their life then actually things become easier.”

In the interview, Harry was visibly moved by Nikki emotionally revealing her husband, Lee, in 2009 was killed in Afghanistan while serving with the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment.

Nikki, like Harry, has two young children named Brooke and Kai who were respectively 7 months and 5 years when she had to tell them their father was dead.

The Duke said Nikki had done an “amazing job” in her professional and in her “mum role” as the ex-working royal thanked her for supporting bereaved military children.

“The way that you’ve navigated this is extraordinary and no one, there’s so many people out there inside the military community and outside you don’t know, and quite rightly understandably, don’t know how to manage these situations,” he said.

“So, wherever you have a chance to be able to share your story it is going to help them.”

Prince Harry was ‘sad’ to give up military accolades

Writer and broadcaster Esther Krakue says Prince Harry has been vocal about how sad he was to give up his military accolades after leaving the Royal Family.

It comes as Harry revealed in his shock memoir Spare he had killed 25 people while serving in Afghanistan during his 10-year stint in the army to to 2015.

Writing about his two tours of duty from from 2007 to 2008 and then again from 2012 to 2013, he said: “So my number: twenty-five. It was not something that filled me with satisfaction, but I was not ashamed either.

“Naturally, I would have preferred not to have that figure on my military resume, or in my head, but I would also have preferred to live in a world without the Taliban, a world without war.”

Harry rose to the rank of Apache helicopter commander and held several honorary military titles awarded to him by his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II including Commodore-in-Chief of Small Ships and Diving, Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington and Captain General of the Royal Marines.

He was formally stripped of all three titles in February 2021, about one year after Harry and his wife Meghan Markle “stepped back” from royal duties and moved to California.

‘Overworked and overthinking’: Expert begs Prince Harry to take a break

A leading celebrity astrologer has revealed her surprising predictions for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for the coming months and warned the Duke of Sussex to “take a step back”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to attend the glitzy ESPY awards show next week where Harry will receive the prestigious Pat Tillman Award but a psychic believes the former working royal needs to take a break.

Using Tarot cards, celebrity astrologer Inbaal Honigman said Harry is “overworked and overthinking” while suffering from “burnout” and predicts he will temporarily take a “step back” from the public eye.

“The Prince is overworked and overthinking, so he takes a step back and tries to commit to resting and recuperating,” she told SkyNews.com.au on behalf of Spin Genie.

“Harry desires to be independent and successful.

“He is spending this year coming up with directions and contacts which can get him there.”

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex will have “luck and success” on her side in the coming weeks as she lands a “great deal”.

“Luck and success on the financial side, Meghan is offered a great financial deal for some very easy work of promoting an entertainment destination,” she claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex continues to work on the launch of her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard and the launch of her new podcast with Lemonada media.

Markle, 42, is also understood to be courting commercial endorsement deals with her Los Angeles agents at the powerful William Morris Endeavour (WME) agency.

The startling predictions comes after a real estate expert claimed the Sussexes are seeking another big financial windfall to cover the ballooning maintenance costs on their Montecito mansion.

The Sussexes originally snapped up their 16-bedroom estate in the idyllic California community for about AU$21 million in June 2020 around the time they inked a $100 million deal with Netflix.

Four years later, Harry and Meghan are reportedly bracing for Netflix to pull the plug on the deal, while the Duke of Sussex has sunk millions of dollars into legal fees for his many court battles.

Meghan Markle’s Wimbledon history – from the role it played in her romance with Harry to an awkward day out with Kate

As a sport, tennis is known to be a cruel mistress – and the same could be said for Meghan Markle’s experiences of Wimbledon over the years.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, attended the tennis championship in south-west London before she married Prince Harry and also during her stint as a working royal.

Meghan is first thought to have visited Wimbledon in July 2016 – the same month she reportedly met Prince Harry – and made a key royal connection in the VIP suite that day.

The former Suits actress then returned to the tournament in 2018 accompanied by the Princess of Wales – but her visit the following year was one of Meghan’s most widely-criticised missteps as a working royal.

Here FEMAIL looks back at Meghan Markle’s Wimbledon highs and lows as the championship comes to a close this weekend.

JULY 2016  – Making key royal connection

In Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2022 Netflix docuseries, the Duchess explained how she travelled around Europe in 2016 to have a ‘single girl summer’ in the wake of her break-up from Cory Vitiello.

But just weeks before her first date with Prince Harry, the actress crossed paths with an individual with a very strong royal connection at Wimbledon.

Violet von Westenholz is the daughter of former Olympic skier Baron Piers von Westenholz, who is a close personal friend of King Charles.

Her mother Jane von Westenholz is a long time friend of the Queen Consort and was involved in the renovation of Dumfries House – a Scottish stately home saved by Charles in 2007.

In her role as press relations director for Ralph Lauren, Violet organised a publicity day for the brand at Wimbledon tennis tournament – which Meghan attended.

Following the event, the actress uploaded a photo on her Instagram with the PR director and other guests.

Expressing her gratitude, Meghan captioned the post: ‘How much more could I adore this gem thank you Violet von Westenholz’.

He said Kate messaged Meghan days before the wedding stating there was a problem with the bridesmaid dresses – specifically, Charlotte’s.

He claims Meghan tried to send Kate to the tailor at the Palace to have it fixed.

According to Harry, Meghan found an hour to chat to Kate, who said Charlotte’s dress was too big for her, and she had cried when she tried it on.

The duke also wrote that it wasn’t the only issue Kate had with the planning of the wedding, mentioning an issue with the page boys, but didn’t go into further detail.

After the discussion, Harry said he returned home to find Meghan sobbing on the floor of the kitchen, overcome with stress and worry.

He added that Kate arrived at the house the next day with a card and apology flowers.

During her visit, fans were ordered not to take photos of her and club sources said at the time that the Duchess was a ‘nightmare’ to accommodate.

An official tasked with organising the event told The Times: ‘It was a nightmare, she was a nightmare.’

An England Club insider told the newspaper she was not supposed to be wearing jeans in the members’ areas of the tennis club. They said: ‘She’s not allowed to wear jeans.’

The source claimed it was fortunate Andy Murray was playing on the same court after Serena, as she would not have been allowed in the Royal Box on Centre Court with jeans on- despite being a member of the royal family.

The former Suits actress sparked a huge row after her bodyguards told fans not to take pictures of her during the match.

She was branded ‘childish’ and a ‘control freak’ after former world champion Sally Jones revealed she was warned about taking pictures.

The former tennis star said she was forced to inform the ’embarrassed’ bodyguard she was trying to get a photograph of Serena and had no idea Meghan was there.

Mrs Jones told MailOnline the Duchess was ‘clearly looking around looking to see who was looking at her’, adding: ‘Harry and Meghan see themselves more as A-list celebrities rather than royals carrying out their duties. It’s control-freakery’.

She added: ‘There were around 200 photographers snapping away at her but security were sent to warn an old biddy like me. It makes them look silly. It’s childish and takes us for fools’.

Another spectator took a selfie of himself and Court 1 near her – but Meghan’s bodyguard also warned him about taking pictures in her vicinity.

Kensington Palace declined to comment on the controversy at the time – but a royal source told MailOnline: ‘It’s not uncommon for personal protection officers accompanying any members of the Royal Family to ask people not to take pictures so they can engage with people and events rather than camera phones’.

The following week, Meghan Markle returned to Wimbledon with the Princess of Wales and the royal’s sister Pippa Middleton.

At the time, it was believed the show of unity was to put any rumours of a feud to bed – but Meghan later revealed that her Wimbledon appearances with Kate weren’t always as friendly as they may seemed.

Meghan Markle told Oprah of her Wimbledon appearances with Kate: ‘My understanding and my experience of the past four years is, it’s nothing like what it looks like’

Meghan started off by saying: ‘I think everyone welcomed me.’

But then she said: ‘When you say, “Was it what it looked like?”, my understanding and my experience of the past four years is, it’s nothing like what it looks like.

‘It’s nothing like what it looks like. ‘

The Duchess then went on to say that the royal family would advise her on what she should and shouldn’t do and how it may look to those outside of The Firm.

Meghan added: ‘There was a day that one of the members of the family, she came over, and she said, “Why don’t you just lay low for a little while, because you are everywhere right now”.’

‘And I said, “I’ve left the house twice in four months. I’m everywhere, but I am nowhere”.

‘And from that standpoint, I continued to say to people, ”I know there’s an obsession with how things look, but has anyone talked about how it feels? Because right now, I could not feel lonelier”.’

Less than a year after that match in January 2020, Harry and Meghan went on to announce that they were leaving the royal family, and split their time between America and the UK, before moving there permanently.

Prince Harry has been pictured smiling alongside a former Pat Tillman award recipient who leapt to the Duke of Sussex’s defence.

The royal received the memorial award set up in the name of Pat Tillman at a glitzy event in Los Angeles.

Pat Tillman gave up a lucrative career in the NFL to enlist as an Army Ranger in 2002 and served in Iraq and then Afghanistan, where he was killed by friendly fire in 2004.

The decision to nominate Prince Harry for the award sparked a furious backlash with over 70,000 signing a petition calling for the move to be reversed.

The petition demanded ESPN rethink their decision, claiming the Duke of Sussex had been “involved in controversies that call into question his suitability to receive an honour of this magnitude”.

Mary Tillman, Pat’s mother, also hit out at Prince Harry, labelling the royal “divisive”.

However, Jake Wood, a former Pat Tillman Award recipient defended the decision to select Prince Harry for the award, saying: “He’s a royal prince, there are 100 different things he could have done with his life after his service in the British Armed Forces but he’s chosen to dedicate a big portion of his post-military life to helping veterans.”

It comes as a source told The Telegraph that Harry had been left stunned by the backlash to his nomination.

The source said: “Harry’s legacy on Invictus, the things he has achieved, that’s his real passion.

“This is the space in which he truly feels at home, it is something he deeply cares about. The reaction certainly took the shine off the award.”

During his acceptance speech, the royal addressed Pat Tillman’s mother Mary following her criticism of him.

Harry said: “I’d also like to acknowledge the Tillman family, especially Mary Tillman, Pat’s mother – her advocacy for Pat’s legacy is deeply personal and one that I respect.

“The truth is I stand here not as Prince Harry Pat Tillman Award recipient but rather as a voice on behalf of the Invictus Game Foundation.”

He continued: “And the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them not to me.

“It is of great importance to me to highlight these allies and their amazing families for their achievements, their spirit, and their courage at every opportunity. Especially on nights like this in front of people like you.”

Touching link Prince Archie shares with one royal thanks to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan have made sure that their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, feel a connection to one very special member of the Royal Family

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex may be an ocean away from Buckingham Palace but they make sure their children understand their royal heritage.

In particular, Prince Archie has a touching link with a Royal Family member who has helped shape Harry as a person, influencing him to create a life on his own terms, even in the face of fierce criticism. The Prince was just 12 years old when he lost his mother, Princess Diana. Even those who’d never met Diana wept as her coffin was carried through the streets of London, with little Harry walking behind.

For the young Prince Harry, the loss was incalculable. Now a father himself, Harry has endeavoured to make sure his mother remains a part of his children’s lives – even if she can’t be here to see them grow up. Eldest child Prince Archie even had a beautiful black and white photograph of his iconic grandmother displayed in his nursery, providing a precious link to the past.

In the 2022 Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, footage shows the now five-year-old Archie as a baby, babbling happily. Sweet footage shows Meghan holding the tiny Prince as he reaches out to touch the framed photo, telling him: “Who’s that? Grandma? Yeah. It’s your Grandma Diana.”

Harry spoke movingly about the photo in his 2021 documentary, The Me You Can’t See, revealing that ‘grandma’ had been one of little Archie’s first words. He shared: “I got a photo of her in his nursery, and it was one of the first words that he said – apart from ‘mama’, ‘papa’, it was then ‘grandma’. Grandma Diana. It’s the sweetest thing, but at the same time, it makes me really sad because she should be here.”

Although Diana, who was only 36 when she died, can’t be with him in person, it’s clear Harry keeps her in mind as he raises his own two children. Following the birth of his daughter Princess Lilibet, Harry paid tribute to his inspirational late mother, naming the little girl Lilibet Diana. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in early 2023, Harry reflected that he saw his mum in both Archie and Lilibet, who have both inherited the fiery red hair often found among members of her aristocratic Spencer family. Championing ‘gingers’, Harry remarked: “The Spencer gene is very, very strong. I actually really, genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship [with Meghan] that should this go the distance and we have kids that there’s no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife’s genes, but I was wrong! Go gingers.”

Ever since their bombshell decision to step back from Royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly severed ties with a host of friends and family members.

Royal insiders claim that the Duke of Sussex has particularly felt the distance from his once-close circle of UK pals after moving across the pond, with one top Royal commentator shedding light on the personal cost of his move.

Speaking exclusively to OK! Magazing , former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond remarked: “I think we can say that it must be tough for Harry to have lost touch with virtually all his old circle of friends as well as his family.”

She further noted: “But we must assume that he feels that sacrifice is worth it for the life he now has with the woman he loves and the children he adores.”

These insights follow statements by Royal author Tom Quinn to The Mirror, where he suggested: “Harry on the other hand is increasingly bored and looking back across the Atlantic where most of his army and school friends still live and whom he never sees because they won’t visit him in the States because they find Meghan difficult.”

This narrative of Harry’s strained friendships isn’t new, as investigative journalist Tom Bower also touched upon the subject in his 2022 expose, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors, reports OK!.

In a new book, the author reveals that Prince Harry’s friends thought he was “absolutely bonkers” for dating Meghan Markle after she challenged their views with her progressive values. The author, who spoke to 80 sources close to the couple, shares an anecdote about a weekend at Sandringham where Harry invited 16 of his old Eton pals for dinner, shooting and lunch.

However, the gathering left everyone drained after meeting Meghan for the first time as she “challenged every guest who contravened her woke values”. The author claims that Meghan “lacked any sense of humour” and put a damper on the festivities.

The author writes: “He had not anticipated Meghan’s reaction. Their jokes, involving sexism, feminism and transgender people, ricocheted around the living-rooms and dining-rooms. Without hesitation, Meghan challenged every guest whose conversation contravened her values.”

“She lacked any sense of humour. Driving home after Sunday lunch, the texts pinged between the cars: ‘OMG, what about HER? ‘ said one. ‘Harry must be absolutely bonkers’.”

Adorable Video of Princess Diana and Young Prince Harry Goes Viral

Princess Diana’s parenting skills with an energetic young Prince Harry have become the focus of a new viral video, with footage from a 1995 royal commemorative event resurfacing on TikTok.

Royal parenting was in focus last summer when Kate, the Princess of Wales, was spotted trying to keep her youngest son, Prince Louis, occupied during a London pageant for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

The young prince’s gesture—covering his mother’s mouth with his hand and cheekily holding his hand to his face and wiggling his fingers—led to some debate on social media over his mother’s parenting techniques. While some users were critical of the princess, others came to her defense, including a TV child care expert, Supernanny‘s Jo Frost.

The new video, uploaded to TikTok by user ralll.45 on Monday, shows Diana with sons Harry and William at the 50th-anniversary commemorations of V-E Day (Victory in Europe), held in London’s Hyde Park.

Sitting next to a restless Harry, Diana was seen batting down the 10-year-old prince’s hand as he raised it in a pointing motion, then animatedly chatted to him about the event.

The video has received over 130,000 views in 48 hours and more than 6,000 likes, as well as numerous comments, many of which have praised Diana.

“Not sure what she’s saying but William is giggling. such a beautiful video. love this lady,” wrote one user.

“Beautiful Diana and her princes,” posted another.

One user wrote, “This reminds me of Princess Kate and Prince Louis.”

Since stepping down from his working role as a royal in 2020 and moving to the U.S. with wife Meghan Markle, Harry has increasingly spoken about his mother and how he reacted to her death at age 36 from injuries suffered in a Paris car crash in 1997.

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death. In an interview with the Today show during the Invictus Games in the Netherlands, Harry said he believes his mother’s spirit has been closer to him since leaving Britain.

“For me, it’s constant and it has been over the last two years,” the prince told Today‘s Hoda Kotb after being asked whether he felt Diana was present at his milestone events.

“More so than ever before. It’s almost as if she’s done her bit with my brother and now she’s very much helping me. She’s got him set up, now she’s helping me set up. That’s what it feels like,” he said.

The prince repeated this sentiment more explicitly in his memoir, Spare. He revealed that he had struggled with coming to terms with his mother’s death, something he did not seek help with until recently.

In an opening description of his mother, Harry wrote, “There was so much I didn’t remember, because I was so young when she died, but the greater miracle was all that I did.

“Her devastating smile, her vulnerable eyes, her childlike love of movies and music and clothes and sweets—and us. Oh how she loved my brother and me. ‘Obsessively,’ she once confessed to an interviewer,” Harry wrote. “Well, Mummy…vice versa.”

During a charity event in August 2022, just days before the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death, Harry said in a speech that he wanted the day to be one filled with “memories” of the princess.

“Next week is the 25th anniversary of my mother’s death, and she most certainly will never be forgotten,” he said at the Sentebale polo event in Aspen, Colorado. “I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way she did it. I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, who I wish could have met her.”

Harry has two children with Meghan, Prince Archie, born in 2019, and Princess Lilibet, born in 2021.

To honor his mother and their daughter’s grandmother, Harry gave Lilibet the middle name of “Diana.” This is a link she shares with cousin Princess Charlotte, the daughter of Prince William and Kate, who also gave their daughter the middle name.
