ITV Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter issues seven-word warning to Rishi Sunak before tense grilling

Loose Women had Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, on Thursday’s show where panellist Janet Street-Porter issued a seven-word warning before giving a tense grilling about pensioners

Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter issued a seven-word warning to Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, on Thursday’s show.

During the latest instalment, the Prime Minister, 44, joined the panel as he was asked a series of questions by panellists Kaye Adams, Janet, 77, Judi Love and Jane Moore.

At the start of the chat, host Kaye, 61, said: “Welcome, welcome, you’ve got your own mug and everything!” to which the Prime Minister responded: “I’m very excited about this mug, my office were asking about the mug before I came, they’re going to be particularly happy!”

Asked if he was a fan of Loose Women, the Prime Minister said: “I’ll be totally honest…” before adding: “I’ve done a lot of things in this job but being here is probably on the more intimidating end of things I’ve had to do.”

Janet then said: “You were quite smiley earlier, weren’t you?”, she then jokingly issued a seven-word warning, saying: “Will you be smiley in five minutes?” to which the Prime Minister quipped: “What have you got? It depends what you’ve got written there!” with Kaye adding: “Don’t you worry, Janet will look after you!”

Later in the show, Janet took aim at the Prime Minister as she asked: “Why do you hate pensioners?” to which the audience erupted into cheers. Janet said: “Let me ask you something, just moving it slightly on to my generation, pensioners, I want to ask you a very simple question.

“I think you’re a decent man, I do think you work really hard, hat’s off to you for that, I do think your heart’s in the right place but why do you hate pensioners?” Janet added: “That is the only conclusion I can come to as a result of the spring budget.”

Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to react to Janet grilling the Prime Minister. One person said: ‘There’s only going to be one winner between Rishi Sunak and Janet Street-Porter….#loosewomen”, a different account put: “You tell him Janet!! #loosewomen”, another wrote: “Janet Street-Porter to Rishi Sunak: “Why do you hate pensioners?” #loosewomen” while a different account added: “Loving Janet Street Porter on #LooseWomen. Tell him.”

It comes as the Prime Minister appeared on This Morning earlier this year, where he was quizzed by host Rylan Clark at the time.

Loose Women congratulated Ant McPartlin on his baby news after his wife Anne-Marie gave birth on Tuesday, welcoming a baby boy called Wilder Patrick McPartlin

Loose Women spoke about Ant McPartlin ‘s happy baby news during Wednesday’s show.

On Tuesday, 14 May, Ant, 48, welcomed his first child with wife Anne-Marie, 46. The loved-up couple, who tied the knot in 2021, announced their joyful baby news on Instagram after deciding not to announce their pregnancy publicly.

Anne-Marie gave birth to a little baby boy. Sharing a sweet black-and-white photo of Ant holding their newborn son, the proud parents also announced their baby’s name in the caption of the adorable post as they wrote: “Welcome to the family. Christine, 45, said: “Ant has always said he wanted to be a dad and very open about it, you cannot take away from the fact a lot of men just want to be daddies and they’re broody and they’re proud.”

To which Gloria, 84, replied: “I think we’re all very happy, particularly for Ant, because he made no secret of the fact he wanted a child and his wife, the lovely lady who has now given birth to this lovely boy, she had two little girls. So maybe as he was helping to raise those children, he suddenly thought even more: ‘I’d really like one of my own’.”

However, Gloria then made an observation as she added: “I’m a bit worried about the name Wilder when he gets to that wild stage in his teens, it might take on a whole new meaning but I’m very happy for him” to which Christine pointed out: “Or it might just be wholly appropriate, it might just be perfect!”

Loose Women star Penny Lancaster dealt devastating blow as police officer after horrifying knee injury

Penny Lancaster has opened up about the negative effect her knee injury has had on her police officer career after qualifying as special police constable in April 2021

Penny Lancaster has spoken about since being dealt a devastating blow to her professional career.

Penny has had regular appearances on Loose Women, and in 2021, went on to compete on Celebrity MasterChef. But in addition to her TV work, The 53-year-old, who is married to rock legend Rod Stewart, surprisingly also works in the police force. However, due to a recent knee injury, a devasted Penny recently revealed that she has had to step back from her role on the frontline and take on “desk duty” instead.

In 2020, after taking part in the Channel 4 Famous and Fighting Crime alongside Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and Loose Women co-star Katie Piper, Lancaster joined the City of London Police as a volunteer special constable.

In April 2021, she became a qualified special police constable, and following on from her training, was assigned policing duties during the Queen’s funeral and the coronation of King Charles III. However, Penny was forced to take a break from her career after injuring her knee back in October, which has since negatively affected her career.

She told OK Magazine: “I’m still with the City of London police but at the moment I’m not on the frontline, because I’ve got a bit of a knee injury. Even though it appears to be fine, the doctors have recommended that I don’t run yet – which is needed when you’re on the frontline. So I’m on desk duty for a while. I’ve been slowed down!”

Rod Stewart has been supportive of Penny’s new career and admitted that she had worked extremely hard to get to where she is today. While appearing on Good Morning Britain, he said: “She trained for eight months, and she loves it. I backed her all the way. She says she loves giving something back, but more importantly, she wants to protect the city she loves.”

The rock star however once joked that his wife had become “a little more bossy” since gaining her police badge. He quipped: “She has become a little bit more bossy,” he jokes. “Even our two children have noticed. Especially when we’re driving! She’ll say, ‘Oh, you’re driving too fast. Oh, you should have put a signal out there.’”

The couple, who are parents to Alastair, 18, and Aiden, 12, met in 1999 when Rod agreed to let budding photographer Penny take pictures of him while he was on tour. Romance blossomed and Rod popped the question in 2005 at the top of the Eiffel Tower. They tied the knot in 2007 in Italy and renewed their vows a decade later in Australia.

  • ITV call crisis meeting with Loose Women, GMB, This Morning and Lorraine who are all ‘in trouble’

ITV call crisis meeting with Loose Women, GMB, This Morning and Lorraine who are all ‘in trouble’

ITV bosses are said to have called a crisis meeting with its four flagship daytime shows following a huge slump in viewers that’s causing the broadcaster to take drastic measures

Loose Women, Good Morning Britain, This Morning and Lorraine are facing crisis talks as they are hit with a huge slump in viewers.

The daytime shows are facing pay freezes and job losses as ITV bosses try to offset the financial damage caused by a ratings dip. The broadcaster is said to have taken drastic measures as a way to cut costs on some of its biggest shows. It has been reported shorter three-month contracts could be favoured instead of long term deals for staff, while freelances could be cut.

Their annual ITV summer do, which sees the networks biggest stars come together to let their hair down could also be axed. Meetings have reportedly been held by ITV’s daytime boss Emma Gormley to break the news affecting its four flagship shows. Loose Women, Good Morning Britain, This Morning and Lorraine staff are said to have been shown a graph detailing their rapid decline in ratings.

It was compared to the huge viewing figures streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. As reported by The Sun, a source said: “ITV is really tightening their belt. There have been concerns for months at the top but now that it’s trickled down to the shop floor it feels very depressing. A lot of staff are being put on three-month contracts, probably so they can get rid of people easily.”

They claimed pay freezes are already in place and that ITV are trying to keep costs down by “not trialling new talent on regular segments”. It has been reported bosses are hoping ratings will pick up during the UK election campaign. The source added the news is “particularly difficult to stomach” following the costly This Morning relaunch.

An ITV spokesperson told the Mirror: “Town hall meetings happen frequently for teams to keep up to date with company news and also serve as an opportunity for staff to have questions answered. The latest one was to celebrate the success of Lorraine Kelly receiving a BAFTA Special Recognition Award and the two BAFTA nominations for Daytime last weekend. It was also a transparent portrayal of what is currently happening across the industry.”

They added: “As a broadcaster and streamer, ITV has a range of programming in its Daytime schedules. This Morning reached an average 4.2 million viewers a week in April alone, its highest so far in 2024. In 2023 This Morning was one of the most streamed shows on ITVX. Like all media, This Morning has expanded into the digital sphere with record breaking results. This Morning remains Britain’s most talked about and influential daytime TV show and has never had a better connection with its viewer, with just under 160 million video views of This Morning content and reached 63 million unique social media accounts in April.”

It has been reported new This Morning hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley bagged a staggering £550,000 as they took over from Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. In their first month in the job, ratings slumped from more than a million to 692.500. By the end of April, the average number of live viewers was 544,000.

Loose Women star sensationally quits ITV show as she announces emigration plans

Loose Women star Sophie Morgan has announced that she’s quitting the ITV daytime show after two and a half years on the panel, as she gears up for a huge move to the USA

Sophie Morgan, the inspirational TV presenter and paraplegic, is waving goodbye to Loose Women after gracing the ITV show for over two years.

She’s been a firm favourite with viewers, sharing the screen with stars like Coleen Nolan and Katie Piper. However, Sophie’s chasing her American Dream, as she excitedly announced on Instagram. “Firstly, as some of you know, it has been a dream of mine to live and work in the US for some time now, and it has finally become a reality,” she wrote, expressing her delight at the move.

The ITV star is loving life stateside, saying: “I find life here [in the US] so accessible; I feel like a different person, more free and less disabled.” Sophie credits the ADA, sunny weather, and positive vibes for her newfound freedom.

She teased her followers about her future plans, hinting that she’ll still have a foot in London: “I will be based between LA and London and am excited to continue sharing my adventures with you all.”

Sophie has also bagged what she calls “the biggest broadcast gig” of her career, promising to spill the beans soon. With a strong following on Instagram, Sophie reassured her UK fans that she isn’t abandoning them, despite her exciting new chapter across the pond.

“In the meantime (I have been dying to shout about this), for the past 18 months, I’ve been working on a new Channel 4 documentary, and it will be out very soon,” she teased. This doc is set to be a trailblazing piece of television which combines my two foremost passions, authentic representation in TV and disability rights.”

The TV star revealed that it will be co-produced by US actress Reese Witherspoon’s “game-changing” production company, and added that filming it has been “a real labour of love”.

It comes after Sophie revealed that she has been focusing on her own wellbeing, both mentally and physically. Writing her memoir Driving Forwards proved to be hugely cathartic, she revealed, and led her to begin a course of trauma therapy.

“I have post traumatic stress disorder from all the things that have happened to me,” said the Loose Women presenter. “And as much as I have coped very well, there are a huge number of issues that I need to work through since my car crash.”

Her friends escaped with minor injuries while Sophie spent months in hospital. She has been a wheelchair user for almost 20 years. “The process of writing the book and dredging everything up encouraged me to reflect a lot,” she said. “I have fantastic coping mechanisms and have never really had therapy since my injury, but I’ve recently started EMDR [Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing] therapy and I’ve been really benefiting from it.”

Inside ITV’s ‘crisis’ – ‘brutal contracts and worrying change for biggest stars’

ITV daytime bosses have reportedly held crisis meetings with staff working on its four flagship shows after a rapid decline in ratings left the broadcaster panicked

Staff working on ITV’s biggest daytime shows could face pay freezes and job losses, it has been reported.

ITV bosses are said to have taken drastic measures to try to offset the financial damage caused by a rapid decline in ratings, after being hit with a huge slump in viewers. The broadcaster’s four most popular programmes – Loose Women, Good Morning Britain, This Morning and Lorraine – will reportedly be affected.

It is understood meetings have been held by ITV’s daytime boss Emma Gormley to break the news. It comes after Ant & Dec stepped down from Saturday Night Takeaway after 20 years and Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were replaced by Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley on This Morning, who bagged a staggering £550,000 for their hosting roles.

But in their first month on the job, the show’s ratings slumped from more than a million to 692,5000. By the end of April, the average number of live viewers was 544,000. The drop has been compared to the ever-swelling viewing figures of streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

    Contracts brutally cut

It has been reported shorter three-month contracts could be favoured instead of long-term deals for ITV staff, while freelancers could be cut. A source has claimed this could be because TV bosses will be able to reduce staff numbers with ease if the situation doesn’t improve.

As reported by The Sun, a source said: “ITV is really tightening their belt. There have been concerns for months at the top but now that it’s trickled down to the shop floor it feels very depressing. The source added the news is “particularly difficult to stomach” following the costly This Morning relaunch.

    Annual event axed

ITV’s annual summer do, which sees the biggest celebrities let their hair down on company cash, could also be axed to keep overall costs down, it has been reported. Kate Garraway and Richard Arnold are among those who regularly attend the event.

    Redundancy review

To cut costs on some of ITV’s biggest shows, some employees could face being scrapped later in the year. A leaked memo, released by COO Chris Kennedy, was partly republished in February by Broadcast magazine, said that no redundancies were planned at the time, but the situation would be monitored for six months.

It read: “We’ll review progress halfway through the year and if we can relax these controls, we will. If we need to strengthen them further, we will.”

Loose Women’s, Judi Love, has spoken out about the awful video, which appears to show music mogul, P Diddy, abusing his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel

Loose Women star, Judi Love, has warned anyone thinking of sharing the vile P Diddy video, which appears to show the Bad Boy mogul abusing his ex-girlfriend.

In sickening scenes, the clip, which has now gone viral, allegedly shows Diddy, 54, dragging and kicking Cassie Ventura, 37, in a hotel. On Sunday, the multi-millionaire took to social media and apologised, saying he hit “rock bottom” and was “truly sorry”.

However, Judi, 43, thinks the video could be ‘triggering’ for anyone who has suffered domestic abuse. Taking to Instagram with the hashtag #standagainstdomesticviolence, she said: “We’ve all seen the video and it’s so distressing, more importantly, so distressing for Cassie. People should be mindful of what they’re sharing because it can be triggers to many. If you do want to share something, share where people can get help from and share the love to keep women safe – and men, but particularly women.”

In a full clip to camera, an exhausted looking Diddy told fans after the video leaked: “So difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, sometimes you got to do that. I was f***ed up. I mean I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses, my behaviour in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video, disgusting.

“I was disgusted then when I did it, I am disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help, I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. Asked God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I am committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness, I’m truly sorry.”

However, his apology has not gone down well with many, as some have slammed the star for not apologising to Cassie, calling the out the artist formerly known as Puffy on the fact that he only seems contrite after the shocking video was leaked.

Commenting on the plight of Cassie and other black women, Judi said: “Particularly black women are less likely to come forward in situations of domestic violence and are, also, less likely to be believed.” She continued: “For those who say: ‘Why does race have to come into it?’ This is why, because of the areas of discrimination. Not just financially, in child birth, but in the court room where black women are fighting for justice.”

Stressing we need to create a “sage space” for women, the presenter concluded: “Can we really try and enable safe spaces for women to speak. Speaking from what I know and personal experiences, one of the factors stopping women from speaking out about what they’ve gone trough is the shame factor that’s placed upon them. Let’s have conversations that are less judgemental.”

Exclusive: Nadia Sawalha ‘outraged’ as she discovered truth about blocked cancer drug that could help pal

Nadia Sawalha has been campaigning with best friend Hannah Gardener, who is living with secondary incurable breast cancer, to raise awareness of the importance of the cancer drug Enhertu

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha and her best friend Hannah Gardener worked tirelessly to get a pioneering cancer drug approved for use on NHS England but were recently dealt a huge blow when they learned jolting new information behind it being rejected.

The presenter, 59, has been campaigning with Hannah, who is living with secondary incurable breast cancer, to raise awareness of the importance of the drug Enhertu. Enhertu is the first licensed targeted treatment for patients with HER2-low breast cancer, that cannot be removed surgically or has spread to other parts of the body, also known as metastatic breast cancer. It could give people both more time to live and more time before their disease progresses.

In March, the duo and thousands of others were left heartbroken when the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) rejected the use of the drug in NHS England. At the time, NICE said the cost the NHS was being asked to pay for Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan) was “too high” compared to its benefits.

In December 2023, the drug was approved for use on the NHS in Scotland following a decision from the Scottish Medicines Consortium. It has been accepted in over 45 countries, leaving women in England and Wales on the back burner. Despite the disappointing news, which left Nadia previously feeling “upset, angry and scared”, she and Hannah didn’t give up and continued their fight for women’s health.

Nadia joined Hannah and a group of around 10 women living with secondary breast cancer at Westminster earlier this month to give speeches advocating for women who would have been eligible to access the drug. It was during the two-hour meeting that the women were astounded to learn that AstraZeneca actually offered a much lower price for Enhertu to NHS England than what Scotland paid.

Speaking to Mirror Online, Nadia recalled how “intimidating” it was to walk into a room of “very important people making all the decisions”. The women gave powerful speeches discussing living with cancer and spoke from the heart as they made sure to question the MPs “over and over” about the rejection of the use of the drug.

“I was talking to my friends that were there with me that have also had breast cancer and we said, you know, for some people, it’s too late. You’re fighting for the next generation,” she explained to us. Summarising the “unbelievable” meeting, she added: “They basically sat there, in their own way, and said it’s all about money.”

They learned that NICE changed the severity of secondary breast cancer from ‘severe’ to ‘moderate’ on their scale, which meant that the “big pot of money that was there for severe diseases was not available” for the drug that could change thousands of people’s lives.

    Image:
Belle PR)An hour and 40 minutes into the tense and emotional meeting, AstraZeneca dropped the bombshell news that England was offered a cheaper price for the drug than Scotland, which was rejected. They said: “Well, actually, we will say that NHS England was offered a price considerably lower than what NHS Scotland paid.” Nadia said of the huge blow: “It felt like, in my opinion, that AstraZeneca was sitting there going, ‘Oh, sod this!’”

The news left the room simmering in shocked silence as a moment bubbled between everyone in attendance as Nadia “felt like there was some sort of agreement that ‘you just don’t talk about money’.” The presenter went on to share her astonishment at the news, saying: “It is an outrage… It is an absolute disgrace the way women are treated.”

Her friend Hannah’s cancer spread outside of her liver and it has affected her stomach lining. She also has a tumour near her kidney. All while focusing on her health and hospital visits, Hannah tirelessly campaigned with endless interviews, meetings and discussions in hopes of changing the future for other women.

Hannah barely had any sleep ahead of the meeting at the House of Commons but still worked on her speech and interviews. “It’s a very powerful moving thing to be around gladiators. Why should women have to fight so f***ing hard for everything?” Nadia questioned.

In the moments after leaving parliament, the women felt “disorientated” by the news of what could have been a huge transformation for women’s health. Nadia said: “We were all really in shock. We all went to stuff our faces with Chinese food. We felt a bit disheartened.”

Although the women felt disheartened after the meeting, news emerged last week that NICE issued a ‘short exceptional pause to the publication of their final guidance on Enhertu’ – which felt “like a win” to them as it could mean there is a possibility of a change to the rejection in the future.

“We’re seeing that as a win. We’re seeing that as meaning, ‘Okay, there’s still a chance that this could still be made available’,” Nadia added of the drug, which received a standing ovation when its results were unveiled at a clinical trials conference in 2022. “I mean, a few months ago it wasn’t. Simple as that.”

Nadia and Hannah are also behind Breast Cancer Now’s petition, which currently has almost 260,000 signatures, calling on NICE, NHS England and the drug companies Daiichi Sankyo and AstraZeneca, to do everything possible to find a solution that makes Enhertu available on the NHS.

Stacey Solomon’s latest transformation branded ‘pointless’ in backlash from fans

Stacey Solomon has transformed an unusual part of her Pickle Cottage home – but not all of her fans are impressed with the Loose Women star’s latest renovation efforts

Stacey Solomon has faced backlash from fans after her latest transformation was branded pointless by some.

The 34-year-old Loose Women star took to Instagram to flaunt the makeover she gave the greenhouse in her Pickled Cottage home. Stacey says she has breathed new life into her revamped glass space by painting the frames black and adding beautiful decor inside. In a video shared on her account, the mum-of-five, who is married to TV star Joe Swash, spruced up the glass house by clearing out cobwebs and adding lights, rugs and plants.

Captioning her clip, Stacey admitted that it was one of the most challenging painting jobs she’s ever undertaken. Despite the hard work, her greenhouse transformation took over a day to complete. She penned: “I DID IT! Brought Pickle Cottage Greenhouse Back To Life…30 hours in 30 seconds. Honestly, this was the hardest painting I’ve EVER done. But it was SO worth it. What do you think?

“I love it! This has been here since we moved in and we’ve grown our tomatoes in it but I was starting to hate going in there and I knew it could be so much more so I needed to sort it out! I can not even believe the before videos! I honestly am so happy with what a bit of paint (and hours and hours of time) can achieve! I Can’t wait to hide in here on a regular basis.” [sic]

One more added: “Mmmm its a greenhouse… Not sure I see the point of the chair you’ll be boiling.” At the same time a fourth commented: “I love what u do but that’s not the purpose of a greenhouse.” [sic]

However, some followers showed their love for this new approach, with one writing: “So beautiful to see someone upcycling something that still has lots of life left in it, rather than just chucking and buying new. How special.”

Stacey and her husband Joe swapped abodes in 2021 for a fancy estate said to be worth a cool over £1million. Notably, they’ve actively let the fans in on their decorative endeavours online.

Exclusive: Nadia Sawalha hits out at ’embarrassing’ Loose Women guest following ITV show drama

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha branded Prime Minister Rishi Sunak an ’embarrassment’ after he was grilled on the ITV show last week

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha shared her thoughts on Rishi Sunak’s trainwreck interview on the ITV programme last week.

The 59-year-old wasn’t one of the panellists when the Prime Minister made an appearance on the show last Thursday. Instead, Kaye Adams, Janet Street-Porter, Judi Love and Jane Moore. He originally appeared on the show to discuss the push for strict sex education bans on children but things quickly took a sour turn.

Not only was he accused of hating pensioners by Janet, but he was also interrogated over starving children in the UK, universal credit and poverty. Rishi squirmed as Judi questioned him about the increase in violence and NHS staff that were queuing to use food banks. The PM kept deflecting the questions and discussed the Online Safety Act being passed.

Fans praised the panellists for interrogating the uneasy politician while Loose Women star Nadia slammed him for being an “embarrassment” and deflecting on more serious and urgent issues by focusing on sex education bans. Speaking to Mirror Online while campaigning for the pioneering cancer drug Enhertu to become available in the UK via NHS England, the writer and presenter admitted to feeling ‘politically homeless’ at the moment.

“From everything I’ve heard from people, he did his usual. None of [the politicians] answer questions,” she explained. “I think this whole thing about sex education is like… What are you talking about? What on earth are you talking about? Why are you throwing us red meat to get people to get annoyed about kids’ education when we are in such a mess?”

Nadia went on to list just a few examples of important things that have been a tremendous issue in the country. She said: “Kids’ mental health waiting lists, NHS waiting lists, an economy that is insane. The behaviour one some of your MPs and their language is shocking. I mean, we’re talking about sex education? Please. He’s an embarrassment.

“Oh my god, I just feel politically homeless at the moment. I really do. I don’t know where to turn. I don’t know. It’s just a mulch, isn’t it? This going around and munching it all up and spitting it back out. I just don’t have any faith any more. It’s just heartbreaking.”

Rishi received a lot of backlash over the sex education ban for pupils under nine, which was deemed as “irresponsible”. From Year 5 onwards, primary school teachers will focus on sex from a scientific standpoint only. Under the new guidance, which will be legally binding, parents will have a right to see what their children are being taught. Ministers will also insist that gender identity is a “contested subject” that should not be taught.

Meanwhile, Nadia has been campaigning with best friend Hannah Gardener, who is living with secondary incurable breast cancer, to raise awareness of the importance of the drug Enhertu. Enhertu is the first licensed targeted treatment for patients with HER2-low breast cancer, that cannot be removed surgically or has spread to other parts of the body, also known as metastatic breast cancer.

It could give people both more time to live and more time before their disease progresses.
