Devin Haney makes shock claim about Ryan Garcia rematch after 'dangerous' positive drugs test

Devin Haney has made a shock claim about the prospect of a Ryan Garcia rematch.

Earlier this week Garcia denied taking performance-enhancing steroids after testing positive for a banned substance before his win over Haney.

The WBC confirmed it had “received notification” from the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association that Garcia returned “adverse findings” in tests taken in April. The samples were, as per ESPN, taken the day before and the day of his win over Haney, but the results came in afterwards.

“Everybody knows that I don’t cheat,” Garcia wrote on X in response. “Never taken a steroid, I don’t even know where to get steroids. I barely take supplements. Big lies, I beat him.”

Meanwhile, Haney has come out and said he is not interested in a rematch with Garcia and accused the 25-year-old of putting his “life in jeopardy”.

When asked about the prospect of a rematch Haney said, as per Sports Center: “Honestly I’m not too interested in it.

“We’ve seen the guy cheat, we’ve seen the person that he is. I don’t see myself ever getting back in the ring [with him], but we never know… Boxing is just a sport.

“He put my life in jeopardy. So now it’s deeper than boxing with me. I wanna take this somewhere else now. He could’ve done some real dangerous things to me that night.”

Meanwhile, Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn, who co-promoted Haney for the fight against Garcia, said the situation had left his fighter “furious”.

“I spoke to Devin last night, in his mind he’s absolutely furious,” the Matchroom chief told The Stomping Ground.

“The guy came in three-and-a-half pound overweight and had performance-enhancing drugs in his system. He will want the contest to be an immediate no-contest [and] for that to be scrubbed off the card.

“Regardless of Ryan’s innocence or guilt in this situation, he had performance-enhancing drugs in his system when he fought Devin Haney – and he came in three-and-a-half pounds over.

“If you’re Devin Haney right now you’re thinking, ‘F*** me, I’ve been screwed.”

Garcia has 10 days to request his B-sample to be tested for the same substance.
